As well as being one of Britain's most popular stage and screen comedians, Will Hay was an avid astronomer and made history in 1933 when he discovered a spot on Saturn.
This film was first shown at the Will Hay Appreciation Society's event 'Will Hay Day the ThIIIrd', on 5th November 2016 at The Electric Cinema, Birmingham. The event raised over £2300 for MNDA.

Just wonderful, an absolute gem of a film, I love Will Hay, have all his dvd,..
with his autobiography..such an interesting, intelligent man., little was known how Will Hay was an authority of astronomy.
Loved his on screen buddies, Moore Marriott & Graham Moffatt..Happy days!.
Amazing I was born in the 60's but I always adored Will Hay as one of our greatest comedians and expert astronomer
Thank's for a most interesting video of Mr. Will Hay, much appreciated.
Will hay was a lovely funny comedy actor, god bless and god rest his soul
As a small boy back in the mid 70s I would watch all his films on BBC2 in the school holidays. I remember I would be hardly able to breath through laughing so much and now I find out he was multi talented. What a true legend.
Exactly the same here!
I was watching too.
My father absolutely loved him, we'd watch the films together, same time as you, though I was a young teenager and I too would be laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe! How odd, when you think about it, for a teenage girl whose other interests were T.Rex and the opposite sex! 😂😂😂
Same here. I recently got the Blu-Ray for The Goose Steps Out. It is uncut unlike the DVD.
3/4 channels in those days. I make you right though. Boys In Blue or Ask A Policeman. Which is best. There's only one answer.
The "Radio Parade of 1935" was a masterpiece, featuring a colour finale, photographed in Dufaycolour by Freize-Green, a pioneer of colour filming. I have it on VHS tape from a BBC TV broadcast but also on DVD in a restored copy. It's a masterpiece and a satire on the BBC's reluctance to follow technology at the time. Claude Dampier as the piano tuner is a gem.
I loved the bumbling Will Hay in Oh Mister Porter, I didn't know anything about his life, if you think about it, acting is just a job but a good actor convinces you that what you see is what they are.
I found this video very interesting. Oh Mister Porter what a clever man you really are.
Thank you highlighting one of my favourite actors.
Great to something 'new' about Will Hay. Thank you.
Good account. His last residence in North West London (Hendon) was recently pulled down and a hideous block of flats put up in its place - a shame really - maybe it could have been
turned into a museum in memory of him... The original drive way ( in and out) can still be made out however and his car must have driven in and out of this many times when he was living there (1935 to 1949)...
What a Genius, and great human, if only they put his films on TV to remind us what true talent was unlike the rubbish on now.
Get the DVDs from ebay. You won't regret it.
was the inspiration as galton and simpsons hancock and when asked if the three idiots inspired dads army croft and perry just laughed and perry said only about a hundred percent!
Will hay. A. Very. Funny. Actor. And. Interesting. Man. Enjoy. His. Films. Pure comedy. From a. Great. Actor
First time I’ve seen any detail on Will Hay’s telescope (a beast!) and his discovery of the great white spot .
Excellent work, thanks
THE VERY BEST OF BRITISH
Great little short on one of our finest entertainers really enjoyable thank you
Thank you for this. Amazing man.
I often wondered if Will`s telescope still existed, now I know. Respect.
The Georges Melies shirt design is fun.
This is a wonderful vide and story of the Great Will Hay and his passion for Astronomy.
Loved watching it.
The old gags we're the best, Bil was the man. ✌️☘️
Great film very informative...
Truly interesting such great man and great video
Fascinating!
Got his films on DVD.
Can not get enough of
Oh Mr Porter!
What was the power of the telescope at 4:25?
What an honour Patrick Moore mentioned will hays astronomy work .wow you have is telescopes wonderful hope your still well my dear fellow a true fan
Great man, will hay was, we will like him
Interesting film. Thanks. Love Will Hay films.
Fantastic, very interesting.
Used to watch will hey with my dad the good old times never knew he was into astrology.
In many of his films Will Hay wore a special wig to make him appear balding as that look suited many of the characters he played much better. In real life however he had a full head of hair.
....” He discovered a spot on Saturn that hadn’t been spotted before”...lol
My dad said he was taught astromony by Will Hay and one of his daughters as part of preoaration for D-Day
3:51 a young roddy mcdowall, I do believe
Will I never!
Not quite true......If Will Hay did have Moore Marriott or Graham Moffatt to bounce off he would have been nothing
Rubbish. He has other excellent films without them or with others. Their films were superb…but so is stuff like “Ghost of St Michaels” & “My Learned Friend”.
Don't talk shit fool
