Make a note : If you like Prawn Noodle, there is the famous Beach Road/Haji Lane junction, prawn noodle shop which also sells pork ribs/prawn noodle. Most tourists missed it after visiting Haji Lane. Go early to avoid disappointment. Do it on your next "pilgrimage". The spring roll (popiah) main ingredient is cut-in-strips steamed turnip (which is a little sweet).
Minced pork noodles , best eat with the flat noodles ( mee pok ) option. It is like the Fettucine pasta. Chinese version of dente fettucine with sliced and/or minced pork and sliced shiitake mushroom.
Next time Chomp Chomps in Serangoon Gardens (my favourite for nostalgic reasons), or the hawker centres in Whampoa, McPherson and Toa Payoh. All mab be out if the way, but they are in the heartland where true Singaporeans eat and definitely well worth it.
You did good! You covered a lot of good food in Singapore. But off course there is more. Try Kaya toast with butter and half boil eggs on your next trip.
Hi Janice, one suggestion, go for Hainanese style satay instead, they use minced pineapple in their satay sauce, it’s pretty amazing! And the satay u had, wayyy too burnt! 😂 I would avoid LPS satay in general.
NO WAY ! 328 is crappy to locals! They got known amongst foreigners due to another foreigner's recommendation. Janggut Laksa, in Roxy Square directly opposite 328 is the authentic, real deal!
I totally agree chicken rice is the type of dish you never get sick of ..Simple but yet so flavourful..the mince pork noodle and laksa looked very delicious ..I loved your videos Janice always great content & food thank you ..x❤️🥰💕
Really great video! I'm planning a trip there in a few months and your video really gave me a better idea of which food spots I should definitely go to. Thank you!
Fish soup at Maxwell Hawker, Beach Road Prawn Mee on East Coast Road and satay in Chomp Chomp Hawker. Would love to see you collaborate with Spore local vloggers like Zermatt too :)
Oh man you got some really good recs! Famous places which locals would actually go (nothing against more touristy places, but if you want some legit recs that’s not where you would go)
I always feel that anywhere that sells prawn satay is a tourist trap. Places at east coast park like haron satay is best. Ive never had a good meal at Lau Pa Sat.
10:25 Seriously, going for a laksa dish with a full long-sleeved white shirt is like going to a warfield barehanded. Kudos to either your bravery or ignorance. 😆
SongFa Bak Ku Teh - do dip the pork rib in dark soy sauce with red chilli - adds a punch 😅 You can also order you tiao (fried fritters) to dip in the soup! And braised peanuts too lol
for SongFa, I personally feel the soup is too strong pepper, the pepper taste just cover all other ingredients. However, the taste was not the same a few years back, I really feel the recipe has been changed.
Bak Kut Teh = Meat Bone Tea. In the past, the bowl of meat + soup comes with a kettle of hot water over burning charcoal, and a teapot and 4 teacups and your choice of Chinese tea leaves.
Haha…I know what you mean about never getting sick of chicken rice. It’s such a more-ish dish! For me, I could just eat the rice and not anything else…it is that addictive! 😋
Do these stalls take local cash or credit cards? Also, what's the toilet situation like at these hawker centers? Are they western style with a pedestal or Asian squat toilets?
Hi Janice!! Thanks for the introduction to our country, May i also recommend other ASEAN countries for the stated food? Whilst i love Singapore, our cuisines are rarely local. The follow locations may offer more authentic and flavourful cuisine! For 1. Bak Kut Teh - try Malaysia, Klang 2. Ice Cream Sandwich - Japan Convenience Stores 3. Chicken Rice - this is local. 4. Minced Pork Noodles - Guangdong, China 5. Prawn Noodles - Xiamen, China 6. Laksa - Petaling Jaya,. Malaysia 7. Char Siew Rice - Hong Kong 8. Popiah - Fujian, China 9. Satay/grilled meats - Malaysia/Indonesia
Wrong, Minced pork noodles aka bar chor mee is a uniquely singaporean dish by teochew hawkers that settled here. There isnt an equivalent overseas. Also Bak ku teh sg version is clear soup. Malaysias is herbal soup which not many people can accept. Dont know about their origins. Its not too clear. Only the Nonya style laska managed to make its way to be katong laksa due to the number of peranakans in sg. Joo Chiat/Katong: The area's association with the Peranakans can be traced back to the early 20th century when many Peranakan families from the Neil Road/Tanjong Pagar area shifted there.
I'm a big sucker for katong laksa but 328 i find has become too watered down & commercialised. I love Janggut but the one that's next level unbeatable is the Sungei Road Laksa
Janice my dear, One food/journey option that I recommend is starting the morning early at the Adams Road Food Centre near the Botanic Gardens MRT (the Nasi Lamak is superb), walking down through the Botanic Gardens (an essential Singapore experience), and then catching the MRT from Napier to Havelock for brunch at the Tiong Bahru Market. Tiong Bahru is Singapore's coolest neighborhood (Well, maybe Joo Chiat is, but such arguments are academic). Next time you are in Singapore, do spend some time in Tiong Bahru. Easy walking from Tanjore Pagar where all the cool people hang. Oh, and the "it" spot at the moment is Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe on Craigs Rd TP.
Don't go to Lau Pa Sat, go to Pasir Panjang hawker centre instead for the bbq food. Most stalls at PPHC open around 6-7pm but bear in mind it gets really crowded from 7pm. There is an mrt station right next to this hawker centre.
@@JaniceFungyou need to check out the realm deal, Janggut Laksa at Roxy Square. 328 is for uninitiated, lured by all the clueless foreigner vbloggers unfortunately.

Not sure if I missed it, but you need to try fried Hokkien mee. Surely the best noodle dish in the entire world.

Good Roti prata, Rava Dosa, mutton briyani & Nasi Lemak... Some of the food I miss when abroad... Miss the spice

Chinese version of dente fettucine with sliced and/or minced pork and sliced shiitake mushroom.
Every dish you had is what I would have every time I head back to Singapore. More food vlogs!
The 328 laksa is overrated. Your white shirt stayed spotless ! You’re so good!
Remember to visit toa pa yo for rojaks and fry carrot cake 😊

Hi Janice, love your video. You have to try Roti Prata in Singapore. It's usually eaten with curry, but it goes well with sugar too :)
@janicefung you did not like much Ya Kun Kaya toast? When I went there I loved it!
Queen street hawker near bugis street also good. One more is amoy street hawker.
Always interesting and entertaining and informative, the food looked amazing. If i ever get back to Singapore i will try
From the food list you enjoyed, I’m sure you will love the food in Thailand as well.
Yess love everything I ate last time I went to Thailand!
The other crunchy filling in the popiah you described is likely to be jicama also known as yam bean or chinese turnip (bang kwang).
Ooooh yes that’s probably it!
Like your video Janice n your narrative in the video❤ 加油啊😂

The chicken rice, and laksa look incredibly delicious. I am sorry you had the charred skewer. You should of told them to
replace it for you.
Must eat : Ipoh Crayfish Hor Fun, Hokkien Mee, Char Kway Teow, Kway Chap, Bak Chor Mee, Laksa, etc.
I wonder if there's similar Singaporean food place in Sydney.
you should try some heritage snacks like tutu cake, nonya kueh and chendol.

cash is your best bet at the hawker centres! re toilet situation, not 100% sure
almost all hawkers are cashless. locals use Apps to scan and pay. QR codes get it?@@JaniceFung
toilets are mostly pedestal with maybe 1 squat cubicle.

The Bak Kut Teh you just consumed is Teochew style. There’s few other versions of BKT if cooked by different dialects group of chefs.
I especially love the hokkien herbal style, but the Northerners claim it's theirs. Even the millennial youtubers describe it as M style.
