      @@ScannerDanner oh absoolutely Paul!
      Things you have taught me over the years applies to so much today as it did back then. The understanding of electrical control and the ability to identify how a circuit functions is priceless.
      It goes far beyond automotive.
      My field is industrial maintenance. Automated control to be more specific.
      The similarities are, for the most part, the same.
      Your courses/classes and out in the field have helped me understand and given me the ability to navigate a system far better than what I have learned from my apprentice programs.

      Thank you!

    Good video and it's something I can relate to since I have a F-150 with EEC-IV. Its great to see how all these older systems can be used to learn the basics and apply them to modern ones. Like wise it's nice to see how both modern troubleshooting techniques as well as proven basic ones can be used to diagnose older systems. I'm thinking the ignition module on this Bronco has failed but would like to see you work through the process to confirm it. Its a common problem on the trucks for them to fail since the early ones like mine (86-91) were located on the distributor and got cooked from engine heat. Later on they moved it to the fender well with a heat sink to help the issue. Good reminder for me to relocate mine before I have this issue.
    As far as the stuck solenoid I'd say you reacted well but if I do jump the solenoid to start it under the hood, I like to keep the negative cable loosen ahead of time just in case I need to shut off the vehicle or it gets stuck. But I also usually prefer to avoid jumping it too many times to avoid hurting the ECU and would rather either just use the key or a push start like you ended up doing. I never have done it but I know you can also start old Chryslers from under the hood as well like old Fords and just pull the wire off the ballast resistor to stop it from running.

    I had a brand-new starter solenoid do that on my 1971 Mustang. I had just installed it, started the car, and thought i could hear my starter still engaged. Shut the engine off and the engine continued to turn over. I was moving pretty fast after that. LOL That was many decades ago so i don't think it was Chinese garbage but...? Car is long gone and i wish i still had it now.

    Where gas density is disproportionate to spark strength, that is Paschens Law, and you are right that many do not understand that.
    This is how I explain it: Suppose a player, say ScannerDanner, is on a football field, and he must run the entire length of the field to score. ScannerDanner, the mighty electron, weighs 220 and stands 6’3”, and there are tacklers (air molecules) spaced every ten yards down the field. Well, mighty SD blasts right through the tacklers never losing momentum - he runs, he scores, he sparks!
    However, on the following series, the defense adjusts and places tacklers every five yards down the field, and on this play, SD can’t score, because he loses too much momentum from hitting all the extra tacklers. So, mighty SD adjusts by pumping iron and gaining thirty pounds of pure muscle (voltage), thus allowing him now to plow through the new defense never losing momentum.

    • @ScannerDanner
      @ScannerDanner  Рік тому +1

      What an awesome analogy! For real.
      On another note, I especially love the 6'3, 220 version of me. As I'm older and fatter and shrunk a half inch lol

    Hey Scanner, I'm starting to think I have a break in my control wires going to the over plug ignition coils (3 wire). Would you recommend just using a led test light at the PCM and then at the coils just to see if I'm getting control? I want to get an oscilloscope eventually so I can check square wave pattern for my cam and crank because part of me feels that something is wrong there, they do however go from 0-5 using volt meter. I've narrowed it down to the car may be out of time, all 3 drivers are bad, or broken control wires. Injectors fire. I'm not sure if you know whether or not Kia Sedonas shut down both injectors and ignition coils when cam and crank signal goes bad? Your hands down the best car diagnostics on the internet, keep it up man. Thanks

    • @ScannerDanner
      @ScannerDanner  Рік тому

      But you said you are seeing a 0-5v signal on your voltmeter? On the coil trigger signal?

    • @brandonslater2987
      @brandonslater2987 Рік тому

      No I am seeing it on cam and crank. I bumped the key and got 0.01v, bumped key again got 5V. I checked cam and crank because I'm getting no spark. I'm assuming cam and crank are good. I can't check trigger for coils unless I get an led test light, because of 3 wire design. So basically just trying to figure the best way to check for trigger at pcm without a oscilloscope and amp meter. Man I would pay money to have you diagnose this car, it would be cool to see you figure it out in 2 seconds lol. I am a noob and spent a good 6 months on and off trying to fix it. Learned a lot along the way though. Thanks for replying.@@ScannerDanner

    Relay not solenoid. There is a difference. A solenoid pushes or pulls somthing. A relay only transfers current.

    • @ScannerDanner
      @ScannerDanner  Рік тому

      In this case, that starter solenoid is in fact one giant relay. What is the solenoid actuating? A very heavy load side contact switch, exactly like a relay.
      You're not wrong, but neither am I if I called it a relay. Because that is exactly what it is doing. It is taking a small current and controlling a larger current
