We pay taxes and the government decides what to do with them. In this case they want to blow on upgrading nukes when healthcare would be a better option.

Boomhauer, Health care is not a right, it is a privilege. I have gone in debt, I have spent the majority of my life studying to become a doctor so you can now come to me and tell me that my service is your right. Get a job and pay for your own health care and stop pushing your socialist/communist ideals.

      This is nothing new.
The original Stephen King dystopian novel "The Running Man" from the 70s - set in the 21st century:
The facist American government has dumbed down the populace (by putting on sadistic reality TV gameshows to distract them) and removed all environmental controls and any kind of healthcare that matters. [that's where we are now, by the way ..]
Benjamin Richards, whose wife supplements his meagre income by doing tricks as a prostitute, sees that his young daughter is dying of asthma thanks to the terrifying pollution levels.
He decides that his only course of action, like thousands of others, is to queue up outside the massive "Games Building" ... in the hope that he will be able to land a gameshow that might buy him some proper healthcare for his daughter.
After a lengthy mental and health examination, he strikes it lucky. He is to be hunted to the death on the best one of them all, "The Running Man" - for every day he survives, his family get $1000. If he makes it to 30 days (nobody ever has) - then he goes free, and he and his family are super rich.
That's what is happening right now.
Honestly - it's like what we're living through is a prequel to Stephen King's youthful dystopian novel.

I'm gonna stay on my high horse and think I'm right because I'm emotionally retarded due to my lack of a functioning conscience. So I say screw 'em, let their corpses line the streets - just not MY street, how bothersome-, as long as I have plenty of money, who gives a damn about anyone who isn't me? I'm a raging psychopath without a conscience so I don't empathize with other human beings in any recognizable way. I'll only give a damn when I'M the one suffering from lack of funds, and then, and ONLY then, will I whine and act outraged at this human rights infringement.' Yeah...No.

Well with the tantrum Trump pulled on Twitter earlier, it might just be a case that nothing ever moves from where it is now, and we just stay with the ACA until 2020. That's the second-best case scenario right now. The best is that SOMEHOW a positive expansion of the ACA goes through, but I highly doubt that will happen in the next few years.

I've been thinking about this lately and some review of the politics is in order. Some of the answers to your questions are contained within:
    > Early 90s: HillaryCare, centered on an employer mandate, is a major policy project of the Clinton administration. At a time when television campaigns were still novel and effective, various health lobbies turn public opinion hard against Hillary-care, insinuating a "government takeover of health care". The bill fails and is partly credited for the Democratic disaster that was the 1994 midterms.
    > In the process of defeating the bill, the Heritage Foundation produced a Republican alternative that instead centered on an individual mandate. This was the right-wing alternative to an employer mandate.
    > The Heritage plan isn't adopted by the Gingrich Congress, but sticks around as policy and is eventually adopted (largely, some modifications) by Massachusetts Republican Governor Mitt Romney, in the mid-00s. The plan is successful at expanding health insurance coverage, but does little to bring down costs. Never really giving a shit about working-class incomes, DC policy wonks declare this a smashing success and it becomes a 'bipartisan' policy framework.
    > Clinton ends up running on this framework - thereby effectively adopting the alternative to her 90s plan. Obama challenges her on this in debates, specifically targeting the individual mandate and pushing instead for a public option. Obama wins the primary and election.
    > As the health care debate rages on in Congress, Obama ends up slowly de-emphasizing the need for a public option and slowly opens up to the idea of an individual mandate, thereby effectively switching to Hillary's stance in the primary. The bill passes after much sausage-making and is partly credited with the Democratic disaster that is the 2010 midterm.
    > Republican assail Obamacare - which, again, is the outgrowth of their 90s framework for health care - as a socialist takeover of health care. Initially, during the Congressional debate stage, they promise to present an alternative. This never materializes. They then begin promising to "repeal Obamacare" - over time, this morphs into "repeal and replace" as a slogan.
    > Somehow, Mitt Romney is chosen by the Republicans to be put in the position where he has to mobilize conservative opposition against Obamacare - which was an outgrowth of his own bill. He fails.
    > Running against single-payer advocate Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton spends the 2016 primary actively campaigning against the idea that single-payer was a realistic goal, and actively claiming Medicare-for-all would destroy Obamacare.
    > Donald Trump, recognizing that Republicans dislike Obama, and that they dislike Obamacare, decides to start including "repeal and replace Obamacare" as one of the things he says at his presidential rallies. It is a reasonable expectation that no further thought went into this. He wins the election.
So now we're at the point where:
    > Last Democratic candidate actively ran against single-payer leftists, Dems have no idea what to do beyond "defend Obamacare"
    > Republicans have been running on "repeal and replace" for years, but don't actually have a replacement, have no answer to millions without insurance, and are planning to repeal the bill which started as their alternative to an employer mandate. Oh, and they have a conservative base which has been fed "full repeal" rhetoric for 7 years.
    > Donald Trump is discovering this stuff is hard

Why not copying the Canadian Health System and make the health care a Human right regardless of income?!

    • @netwolfe
      @netwolfe 7 років тому +4

@Che مثلية عربية Well apparently there are some people in the U.S.A who seems to misunderstand the Canadian health care system. So the first step would require educating people. After the Affordable Care Act passed, some people said they were going to try fleeing to Canadian, unaware that Canadian already had some form of an universal health care plan.
And about couple months ago I saw conversation in the comment section of another video. The conversation had two people claiming to be from Canada and trying to explain their country's health care system. And one person claiming to be from the U.S.A, who seemed to strongly believe that Canada was some type dystopia nightmare (I think dystopia nightmare were actually words they used). That an aspect Canada's healthcare system for reason included a lottery to determine who got treatment and who did not. Despite having two Canadians explaining this was wrong, the person from the U.S.A continued stead fast in there beliefs, accusing the Canadians of lying or being delusional.
So we have people who do not realize that Canada has universal health care type approach. And the people who are aware that Canada has a universal health care approach, seems to believe that Canada and the universal health care approach is the reason why. So those two obstacles we have to deal with. I do think the Affordable Care Act was an improvement to are health care. Possibly still a work in progress, and might need some improvements itself. But I still think it was improvement over what we had before, and definitely much better then health care plain that Trevor mentions in this video that some Republicans our trying to push for.

I absolutely require mental health care. If Mental Health Care was stopped and I had to suddenly withdraw from my medications, I could go on a psychotic Rampage. I have had only one other psychotic break in my life and it was from being suddenly pulled off of medication, and because of the medications I'm on and how long I have been handling and stabilizing my mental health, I could really devolve. I don't think that people realize that cutting Mental Health Care could literally create killers... because if you end up in a paranoid delusion and think someone is attacking you, your internal fight-or-flight mechanism could prompt you to defend yourself in absolutely any way possible. All of this is honestly terrifying.

The senate just passed a repeal of the privacy laws regulating internet providers sharing customers' personal information. They will now be able to sell it to advertisers without our consent (if the bill passes through the House and gets signed by Trump)
