    I made this with Lion Brand Scarfie yarn. In a camel and charcoal color change way. I used the same 10mm hook size as the pattern calls for. For the large/extra large size in the pattern I used 1 whole skien/ball and a very minimal amount of another. It turned out so well, worked up so quick, and the great part about having darn near an entire other skien left of the yarn I chose is that I can make a matching hat.

    Hi Marly. I absolutely love your video tutorials. The idea of putting a marker at the beginning and end of a row is genius! I can't tell you how many times I've been working on a project coming to the end of a row and not knowing where to put my last stitch, particularly if it's to go in the beginning chain of the previous row. You have a great personality and patient teaching style. Please keep bringing us these wonderful videos. One question on the Chic Cowl Neck Poncho: how to I adapt this pattern for a child? My 7 year old granddaughter would just love this. 😉

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  8 років тому +1

      +Sharon Higgins you would have to adjust the length of the cowl portion then adjust number of stitch repeats you do around the cowl. It isn't hard...without doing a lot of math you could make the Cowl long that when doubled it can fit over her head. (in the video I did a total of 14 stitches I think and like 18 rows). Once you have the Cowl complete, you will adjust the number or repeats you do for the body of the poncho so it goes all around the cowl. AFter that...go along and when it is as long as you want you should be good.

    Love the yarn. It's looks like a double V stitch rather than a shell. But that might also be called a shell? Can't wait to start this project but yarn is sold out.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  8 років тому

      I agree in that it could be called something else but I wanted to use the same name as written in the pattern. That is one of the big reasons it is so important to always look at the special stitches so that you know what the designer has called a shell stitch actually is ;-)

    Hi Marly, luv ur videos, quick question? Can we use a worsted weight yarn 4 ply for this with a different size yarn.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  8 років тому

      +Maryann Moreno Hi Maryann, thank you for the compliment :-) If you were to use a 4 ply worsted weight yarn (like Red Heart Super Saver) you will get a different look. That yarn is smaller than the one used in the pattern so if you get gauge with the smaller yarn you will have a very loose look and I don't think you will be pleased.

    Hi MARLY, LOVE THIS! Sadly, it's really hard, therefore unclear, due to the color of the yarn to see where the end of your rows are that your doing the "pair's/couple" stitches...??? It was gear how you used the markers to teach peeps where the end if there rows were and teaches how to recognize then in the future. Unfortunately, when you started the shell stitches. Attaching them to the cowl...it's really unclear where your actually putting the stiches in..to join HELP? PLEASE :-D
    Ps at the 25: Mark where you stopped to brake it down..this looks like a..? And you detailed where and how the next step took place.wonderful! That was THE detail missing in the..15:32 how to identify the "next row" . I think that's a better way of sharing what isn't quite clear to me. Your a doll! I'm not knocking your great work, you do wonderful TUTe's add I mentioned before I think it's the yarn color that made it confusing.
    Have a BLESSED DAY & THANK YOU FOR ask your efforts..it's a labor of love. We can see that ;-)
    Ok I just followed to the picot stitch. I hope outs just me. I can see what your doing..where? It was really rushed..you out the hook back into the bottom of the original chain. ? I think I'll skip this adorable cowl poncho. Bummed, haven't had this much difficulty with a pattern/video. May I just say, this was done some time ago and it seems really rushed. Some of us need to process as it's being taught. Maybe, hopefully in other videos you've slowed down. Your excitement is a delight. However, I need to take a b.r.e.a.t.h. for you. Giggle

    So sorry but I can't follow you. I tried 4 times but my project width (part that goes over the head ) was never larg e enough. I don't read patterns so I was trying to follow you. I gave up on the poncho.

      I’m sorry. Sometimes I get too excited. If you have the CC on that might help.
