Back in the 80's, I saw the Monsterbots as replacements for the Dinobots in the same vain as Rodimus Prime replacing Optimus Prime. The comparison between the Dinobots and the Monsterbots was simple, they were both animal like monsters, they were both hard for the Autobots to control but they would come in handy when brute force was needed. Again a great, fun little review.
I won't lie, I don't think the original name fits well for this character. It would fit more for a Decepticon Spy character, like Punch/Counter Punch. Out of all the things that Titans Returns did to this guy, at least they gave him a better name.
I like that an autobot can be an unruly monster and have a treacherous sounding name. After all the Dinobots totally double crossed the autobots on more than one occasion, probably more times than any monsterbot actually turned on them.
I've always seen the TR nomenclature to be: daburu the furry headmaster, doublecross the undecided beastmode, and tinferno the combined robot mode. I get the idea between the monsterbot and the decepticon headmasters, but the original name just don't mech
Aw man, this guy was my VERY FIRST Autobot and I've got such a special place in my heart for him. Although....I used to just pretend he was Grimlock lol. Great review Gavin! Thanks for the memories! 👍
Despite being an active transformers fan since 2000 I wasn’t very familiar with G1 past 86. So when we were knee deep in titans return and I saw the G1 versions of all those designs my mind was kinda blown seeing just how faithful they were. Kinda like how when people made G1 versions of Animated Lockdown….except it was real
There's something about an Autobot called Doublecross that tickles me, those dragon arms are very charming for me and a nice altmode. It's also a dragon I've never heard of before and that's nice to see
Really impressive how well that sparking gimmick works considering it's a toy form the late '80s. Always had a soft spot for the Monsterbots and Autobots that turn into some beast or another. Their TR toys were decent, but part of me wishes they would've gotten new toys during WFC instead.
I have the TR version. I have him on the dragon shelf despite it being 3 Autobots to like 17 Decepticons, massively outnumbered. Only one thing can correct it: more Autobot dragons!
Not gonna lie, it was fun to see the review of this. Mostly because RID2015 Twinferno/Doublecross was my new first figure when I became interested in TF as an whole again.
I'm fond of the character. I keep on visualising him talking out of his hands and talking to himself by having his dragon head-hands face each other like some strange sock puppet show.
Nice review! This was a good figure for its time and holds-up pretty well today. It's good to see the spark gimmick still working after all this time. Loved the little mascot, btw! :)
This review has made me realize that my own Doublecross has no stickers. They look pretty good on him, so I might be headin' off to Toyhax. BTW, Grotusque is quite good. Great headsculpts. Just be wary; it might be because mine came from a flea market, but the tails on mine were so incredibly stiff on their hinges I thought the plastic would break. I had to disassemble the figure and sand down the axle a bit. This might not be common, but it's something to ask about if you're buying one. Also, have fun mortgaging your house to afford his wings.
I've kinda wanted all the TR monster bots ever since the Repugnus special. Of course, being my own worst enemy, I managed to convince myself that Twinferno stinking up shelves meant it wasn't a good toy so now I'm putting in twice the work to own a toys I could have bought with pocket money years ago.
I remember Seaquest DSV! it was pretty good depending on what season and episode you were watching at the time. I think they fought ghosts on the Titanic once 🤷🏽♂️
I'd like to get this guy and put him on the shelf with his big brother Hun-grr. I bet you didn't know they were brothers, did ya? Well they are, and it certainly makes family reunions entertaining when both sets of heads get into an argument with each other.
I love Doublecross, he's an Autobot AND a two headed dragon, I love Headmasters they're Transformers with humanoid partners, when they made Titans Return Twinferno I finally believed in Santy Claus!
1:42 I used to watch _seaQuest DSV_ back in the day with my family. The first season was pretty good! ...and then it just shit the bed after that; I'll probably never be able to bring myself to watch it again. _goddammit,_ that show had a lot of good going for it. ua-cam.com/video/CfUJtbtNqu8/v-deo.html

...I NEVER NOTICED THAT!!!

"...they're both over 35 years old, nothing they do well ever be cool again." oooooooof. Imma just go wither away in the old folks home, now.
We can wither together! #GenX
Hitting hard with the age chat, not happy about it but I MUST respect it.

An unexpected return of the non-generated captions, but it is a welcome return.
It's weird how UA-cam selects them. I upload the full script and publish each one but sometimes it just ignores that and serves the autogenerated ones

I like it! I also liked the titans one. He wasn't the best ever toy, but he didn't deserve to be a shelfwarmer either

Heads Down Thumbs Up, damn, I didn't expect to be hit with that nostalgia bomb.

I feel personally attacked at the end of the video and I love it. Thank you Gavin
I picked this bad boy up for £15 on eBay last month - absolutely fantastic figure!
Doublecross feels like someone saw the G1 Dinobots and said “Pfft, I can make a cooler toy than that!” And then they did.
Nice review! This was a good figure for its time and holds-up pretty well today. It's good to see the spark gimmick still working after all this time. Loved the little mascot, btw! :)
had it as a kid and loved it

So much truth in that last line. Gonna go nap now
The two red things on his chest look like funny amongus
You got the name of that documentary...asking for a friend.

Another Banger review
I felt really sad seeing the TR Twinfire shelfwarm, it IS a very nice toy.
I wasnt around for g1, bur if i had, 1987 would have been my favorite year
I watched Seaquest DSV when I was in high school... dang.
And what is the name of the seaQuest DSV documentary?
Probably something like 'Searching the Depths'
0:59 aw nah he got amongus on his chest
The fact that g1 doublecross looks exactly like titans returns twinferno💀
Name slap
Gavin who was your favorite decepticon as a kid
Probably Darkwing. Played with that a LOT
How many dragons, much less two-headed dragons, came out in transformers in 1987? It seems like at least 20.
Twinferno is such a better name for this guy and I will die on this hill.

🤘🤘🤘
seaquest lol I haven't heard that in a long time
Where can one watch this Sea Quest documentary.............. Asking for a friend😎
The only thing more desperate than Repugnus is me when I'm trying to get transformers reviewers to notice me in their youtube comments.
HELLO!
@@TRDQ omg it's that guy from that thing!
Ah, "Doublecross", sounds trustworthy.
One more head and if he was painted gold se would have a king ghidorah on our hands
SEAQUEST WILL ALWAYS BE COOL!
the last season is a different show and is uncool.
That age comment lol
i still kick myself for not getting his titans return figure for €5 3 years ago
His chest looks a little sus
I've never liked the Monsterbots robot modes, they look too friendly to be a bunch of jerks that nobody wants to be even close to.
I love Seaquest DSV
