Great work from coach and fighter. Well done to you both. It shows that with a determined attitude and people open to trying new ways of learning anything is possible, even distance preparation for a match.
Congrats to Lise on her matches. We all know that winning is nice, but the first few Assaut are always more about experience more than winning so keep it up and victory will surely follow.

Really enjoyed watching the journey you guys went on! Well done Lise! An example of Budo spirit throughout! Was this an open I.e no weight class event? Taller opponents limbs do tend to make life more challenging.

Thanks Mat. This was 'open' in the sense of 'open to all', with no title at stake. We always use some weight category distinction. (There is also a Cup on in Helsinki at the same time, same ring, which is considered and run slightly differently from the Open).

I have a question pertaining to the intensity of Savate. If i were to compete in a a savate match but treat it as intensly as a kickboxing or muia thai match and go for a KO or damage would that frowned upon. Is it in the rules to be more artistic than combative and if so why???

What will help answer your question is understanding that there are two main forms of Savate competition: 'Assaut', which you see in most of my videos, where the aim is to score with technical virtuosity and with strictly 'no power' (infractions are warned and earn disqualification, not just frowned upon); and 'Combat', full contact, in which you seek a KO. Aside from this difference, the techniques are the same in each type. Both are intense.

I would say tell lisa to order Salem Assli dvds on Savate 1, & 2. Just those two dvd to start with especially dvd one For about two months that will Get her body limbered up, and in shape in order to do the kicks Before moving on to dvd two. After that start in on dvd number two, The kicks will come a lot easier. Also tell her to start taking gymnastics That will really help her in her coordination of her body and in her kicks and punches for about 6 to 7 months. Tell her to take a gymnastic class. Before she enter any competition tell her this will take about a year, Trust me it will help. Also tell her to jog regularly start slow at first, and after several weeks increase the distance. Tell her to give herself about a year before she enters in any competition. Stay to that plan and she will see some really great results. Much thanks from Joseph. Also tell her to practice just a few kicks at a time. Not the whole thing in one section. And just a few exercises from dvd one, Not the whole thing at one time. Tell her I wish her the best of luck, And don't be so quick to enter into competition. Lay the foundation first.

The London Savate world academy online library has everything required to learn the art of Savate, with fight analysis to boot. Prof Assli's series was groundbreaking at the time it was made, and may have laid a foundation for numerous people. Ring experience is priceless, for a debut, against vastly more experienced opponents with longer reach, no amount of gymnastics or dvd watching will help. Ringcraft is built thru experience not delay. Foundation good, ringtime and coaching way ahead. Tell her.
