  • Don't make this mistake with your arms when you deadlift. Starting Strength Coach Phil Meggers covers how to identify the problem as well as how to fix it.
    When lifting, we strongly recommend lifting shoes (see our video below on that topic). Here are some solid options:

    👍 yup just like we use the bar in all 3 big lifts to assist with our initial setup use it here as well. Take the slack out but Connie using the bar to pull up against and basically straighten/stretch your arms out at same time slightly rounding your upper back,brace and go! You’ll activate more muscle this way.shorter the moment arm and be faster off the ground. Speed is everything in a 1 rep max. Good video

    Not sure of your body weight but your deadlift is impressive! I typically take my shoes off when I do deads but I noticed that you still wear your lifting shoes. I always felt better with flat shoes (Chuck Taylors) or no shoes at all. Do you prefer the raised-heel shoe?

      Thanks for the kind words! The most important aspect of a lifting shoe is the rigid sole so that you have efficient force transfer between you and the floor. The heel is a relative non-issue for the deadlift (it's not very big), but it is certainly useful in the squat. If someone wants to lift in a flatter shoe, I'd recommend something like the Sabo deadlift shoe - the sole is very thin so you're effectively on the floor. For this same reason, I would not recommend a Chuck Taylor or any other shoe is that essentially a walking shoe (Chucks got popular due to 80s and 90s powerlifters, but there are far better options) because they have a lot of give that makes for inefficient force transfer.
      Hope this helps!

    Stayin Alive with 585... very impressive.
    Are you using a hook grip to pull that? What's your take on switch grip?
    Love your puppers btw... what a good old boy.

      Thanks very much, and yes, I am definitely using a hook grip (no chance I could simply double overhand that :-)). Switch grip is an excellent option, and if I couldn’t hook grip this, I would use a switch grip. Make sure that the supinated arm is very straight, and that the pull starts smoothly, but those things should always be true no matter what type of grip a lifter is using anyway.
      They’re pretty great dogs about 99% of the time…the other 1% is yesterday when they both decided to mix it up with a skunk.

    Did you ever have to keep the deadlift weight in the air for extended time, because the doggo decided to get underneath it?

    • @TestifySC
      @TestifySC  6 місяців тому

      Nope, they’re pretty good about staying out of the way and usually off the platform. Especially for lifts where the bar ends up back on the floor each time.
