I've worked with moldy tapes since 2005 but rarely Beta SP. You really helped me with getting a moldy Beta SP tape to manually eject from my UVW-1800! Thanks!
Would be awesome to see the inside procedure as well when tape is stuck/slack. I often have to do that with my 1800 which I use for editing. I really like the fact this is even possible with these machines! It's the procedure when you press yes when tape is stuck. You can manually control the motors then to tension the tape.
That would be a little difficult to replicate since I never have a tape stuck in a machine. You should find out what is wrong with your UVW1800 that's causing the tape slack problems. It's likely to be a reel drive issue.
Hello! Thank you for the video! Such a question: there is a Sony UVW-1800 recorder. When turned on, it shows error 32-000. Tell me, what could be wrong?
Some great info there,I think I am going to have to check on our 1800 series machines at work and see about integrating one into our setup. The lack of AFM is not a huge problem as most tapes tend to only use linear sound anyway.
It does seem that AFM Audio is used relatively infrequently. If I do need to recover that, I have other machines for the job. The 1800 just seems to give such nice pictures.
Ran into the exact same problem tonight with a 20 minute Maxell broadcast tape, just ordered a tape splicing block to put it back together, should be zero video lost. The machine ran 12 other tapes just fine.
Very surprised to see you using a steel screwdriver in the vicinity of magnetic tape, should you not be using a plastic pointer, or brass screwdriver, like we used to do with audio tape?
The magnetic field required to erase a metal formulation tape is huge. Even a purpose built tape degausser barely touches metal tape recordings, as I demonstrate here: ua-cam.com/video/RY1WwBIcrYc/v-deo.html
I have an old non-SP tape that a UVW 1200 just says no to and ejects it straight away. I recall years ago this played ok in SP machines. Checked to see if it had seized, but no both spools/tape move freely back and forth.
What's your thoughts on the Sony BVW-35 and BVV-5 Betacam SP recorders, they are pretty cheap on eBay and since they are portable decks they are easier to ship. I'm just wondering if they are known for being reliable. Are they easy to service if there is a problem? I just want a simple record/playback deck, doesn't need to be super high quality but as long as it works I am fine with it. I plan on recording footage from my Sony DXC-M3A.
I have a Sony BVW-35 (NTSC). Mine has a bad TBC but that can be switched off. You have to get a suitable 12V supply, and the connectors are not necessarily as easy to use as say a UVW1800P. Plus of course the portable only takes the small tape size. Considering a UVW1400P or UVW1800P is so cheap these days, I would probably select one of those over a portable.
I have a machine that throws this same error with all tapes I put in to it, however it will play perfectly if I run through the tape tension adjustment in the service menu without changing any settings. Do I just need to find a tentelometer and fix the tension?
I've not come across that problem so I'm sorry I don't know the answer. It may be worth just watching it during play to see if tape piles up on the exit of the pinch roller.
Yes there were MPEG IMX (rare, never seen a recording of that format) and the reasonably popular SX format which could use BetacamSP tapes or its own yellow ones.
hi can you help i have some betacam sp saying error 12 on a bcb 75 do you know where the interlist has gone to BVW65 players error on 3 decks the cards are ok 100% working i do have alot of decks bob there was jammed parts i fixed up bob here

Welcome back, Colin.
This really helped, thank you !

This video saved my butt today. Thank you!
Thanks a lot. Cheers from Mexico ✌🏽.

Looks like it was a problem with some Maxell tapes.

Nice to see you Colin! I hope no one at the Beeb see's that HDCam tape otherwise they might start sweating 😅
I've had quite a lot of ex-BBC tapes dumped on me over the years, but very few HDCAM.
I have an old non-SP tape that a UVW 1200 just says no to and ejects it straight away. I recall years ago this played ok in SP machines. Checked to see if it had seized, but no both spools/tape move freely back and forth.
These machines will eject an oxide tape. It will however play in other models such as J3, BVW22, DVWA500.
Interesting video about Betacam-SP tapes. Is there a metal leader strip on either end of the tape?
Yes the leader tape is the same on both ends.
I've never used the _super_ outputs on mine, didn't even know they have On Screen menus......
Neither did I, I've never used them before either!

Is the manual eject feature only available for UVW series decks?
I would expect it to be available on all models from there onwards but you will have to check the service manual for your particular machine.

Meu amigo, poderia me ajudar? Tenho um UVW-1400A e está com o seguinte erro: ERROR32-000
Now I noticed that there are 5 NOW IDs on a Digital Betacam tape. Also, the Digital Betacam format also had MPEG IMX and Betacam SX.
Yes there were MPEG IMX (rare, never seen a recording of that format) and the reasonably popular SX format which could use BetacamSP tapes or its own yellow ones.
hi i have had lot of this model they don't liked been bopped around
the cables come of in side the deck why the error code sometimes
I believe that the cables to the reel drive are prone to being dislodged in this way.
hi can you help i have some betacam sp saying error 12 on a bcb 75 do you know where the interlist has gone to
BVW65 players error on 3 decks the cards are ok 100% working i do have alot of decks bob
there was jammed parts i fixed up bob here
How to handle error 34-000 sir?
Wait... I noticed a HDCAM tape from the BBC!
OOPS, weren't supposed to notice that.
I would have replaced the foil and cleaned the spool so it wont happen again.
