Really interesting video Norcal 715. The quality of construction in commercial units is far and away better than domestic. Interesting also that a BETA tape is used to promote a DVD product (advertisement late in this video).
Thanks for this but please add error code 02-694 to the title. I ended up finding and fixing a unit exactly as you show before I found your video. Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for the video, very useful info. I have a difficult question, if you don't mind.. Do you know how to connect a Convergence FM 216 Audio Enhanver to a UVW 1800 ? Thanks for any info!
Same issue on my 1200, that little spring was giving me fits! Some consumer Sony VHS decks have a similar issue where the arm on the right gets gummed up and won't move.
Hi. Nice video. I have a sp machine and I have to help the threading mechanism around. Do you know if I can lube something to make the motion smoother?
Back in Europe i used to have a v2000 (video2000) machine. Huge thing that worked great. But PAL only . Still, wish i still had it. How did you splice the tape
Very carefully by hand with scotch tape on the non magnetic side trimmed to about 3/8" and then hand trimming to get it right. I used to be able to splice audio cassette tape that way also.
Oh yeah...back in the day when SONY was really, really GOOD. AMPEX and SONY in the TV station VTR rooms....ahhh memories....today the digital file operators cannot even match audio output levels!!!
hi picked a deck up with 18hrs for £20 the only bad thing the capstan motor is not working yes i swap over i tested one it's 100% thing is it cam out of a deck i am not 100% about i have to take out out a good capstan motor to do tests
Hi, I buy yesterday this player. First two cassettes it play perfect, first problem : it have problem you can see in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/KYzFyuWSpxY/v-deo.html, then i saw error 02-603, the same on your video. I fix it, but picture looks still look like video I posted, and timecode dont work (always 00:00:00). You know what problem can it be?
This is not Betamax! It is Betacam. Big difference. Faster tape speed and R-G-B (R-Y) (B-Y) and (Y) video signal recording. Many DVD's were mastered in with Betacam.
Norcal715 is the Bob Ross of the electronic repair world.

What shape is the loading belt in? Also measure the voltage on the loading motor.

Hi there! do you have the uvw series error chart? Thanks!
I had an SLHF 750 Super Beta HiFi was AWESOME. And XBR Squared 32 inch Sony Miss that combo. Was great for 1990s.
I repaired a lot of those back in the 90s. The SLHF750 was a great machine! TV was probably a KV-32XBR(10,15,50,55) series. Wonderful TVs

Magic-Thumb-Diagnosis. Who woulda thunk old lube would do that ?
Imagine the cost to produce that today , Holy Hell.
