Sailor's cross knot

- In this tutorial we make a paracord cross using the Sailor's cross knot. This design was popularized by Don Burrhus.
Although this seems like a hard project, it is actually fast and fairly easy.
Basically we will tie a turk's head knot onto a cross-shaped mandrel.
For this project I used about 5 feet of paracord and had a little bit remaining to make a loop at the top of the knot.

What a brilliant, clear and concise tutorial. Well done.
Hi Mark, thank-you for starting to include the length of paracord required in the various projects. :)

Hey!
Thank you for your feedback!
Mark
If I can get this to where I can teach it, I'm going to pass this on to my little ones, I think that the story of redemption would be a perfect topic while making this cross! Thanks for Sharing!!!!
Great tutorial, but how do you remove the mandrill?
Mark, you are wonderful again!!!

Thank you for the kind comment!

Very pretty! Thanks for teaching!
Thanks for all the responses. If you could show how to do the loop that would be great. I'm a follower of your work and so is my wife and we both appreciate and enjoy your work. Thanks Again. ...

Hey Keith!
I posted a few images on the website (paracordguild.com) that show how the loop is done.
Hope it helps!
Mark
You need to show how you finish off the projects. You dont do that for your videos and it could be helpful for begi ners like me. how did you remove the dowels?
Awesome informational educational video experience
I'd like videos with examples of using paracord in cap, in the car interior, bicycles, backpacks and leashes.
another great video lesson
Hi, you dont show how finish the cross!!!!😢
Mark rocks!!!
Da, samo što nisi prikazao sam završetak. Ostaje da nagađamo kako si to do kraja odradio ?
Also how do you form the loop at the end?
+Keith Baxter
In this case, once you have doubled it up, you have one cord facing down towards the bottom of the cross. That one is finished.
The one facing up is your working end with the lacing needle attached. You take this end and feed it into the center, under everything until you exit at the top. Then enter the knot from the top, going under everything until you exit at the bottom.
Loop complete :)
I hope that helps, If not, I can make a video to show you.

+Paracord guild I read this... Its just not the same... Why didn't you just use text and tell us how to tie the cross... Its better it you showed us...
What’s the metal needle tip called?
It's called a lacing needle. It is sometimes incorrectly called a fid, which is a different tool entirely. They come in different sizes, so be sure you are getting the right size for the cord you are using.
Where did you get the short fid?
How do you remove the sticks when you are done?
+Keith Baxter
Hey!
Well, in my case I just pull them out. You could cut the ends also if you wanted a solid core.
