  • After using the Fujifilm x100V for just over a month I thought it would be a good time to discuss whether it is worth buying the camera in 2024.

    The fact that you cannot change the lens is the selling point. You compare apples with pears if you compare it to the Sony.
    And yes, you made it into my recommendation with yet another X100V video, well played.

      I don't think that is the selling point, I think the selling point is the compact size and optical viewfinder. I only compared it to a Sony camera once when I said about the price compared to the features, every other time I compared it to the xe4

      @@taranspictures I see it as a selling point. The fixed lens comes with a challenge, but it gives you the simplicity. No more thinking what lens shall I take today, which lens shall I buy next and so on.
      And the mentioned challenge: You have to work (walk) for your picture, you have to get creative. For beginner that's a great way to learn. For "older" photographers it's refreshing.

      I had no problem with the lens as the 35mm focal length is my favourite size but I did find at certain points I was wanting something a bit tighter. It is definitely a great way for someone to learn how to take better photos but at the same time you could just do that by using a prime lens and still have the ability to swap lenses when the time calls for it. Personally I shot most of my work in my first 3 years of photography with a nifty fifty which cost me £100 and I don't think that getting this camera for £1300 would have improved my photography in any way just by not being able to change the lens

    It's a complicated one. On the face of it it may seem like you can pick up something equal or better for much cheaper but there are too many trade offs that go against the purpose of getting the X100V in the first place. X-E4 is the closest Fuji alternative but you're not going to find a 35mm equivalent F2 lens for it at that size and it's not going to come with on board flash either.
    The only sensible alternative would be something like a compact APSC Sony but you're still going to have similar drawbacks (albeit at a discounted rate) and it won't have the benefits that come with shooting on a Fuji in the first place (skin tones, film sims, camera design etc).

    If you want a really compact Fujifilm camera, your wallet is fucked either way. New X100 will be expensive, the x100v is still stupidly priced, the X-E4 is discontinued and also expensive on the used market. You will have to be lucky to find a reasonably priced xe4 or x100f or v. Good cameras, but the price is not good right now

      Yeah I only checked the price of xe's yesterday after I recorded the video, I had no idea how expensive they have become

    I would love a new fuji x20 ovf zoom and it's fast. It's so much fun to carry everyday.

      I think one of my mates has the x20, I've never seen one though

    • @blackduncan9812
      @blackduncan9812 6 місяців тому

      @@taranspictures id say try it out if you can. I carry one everyday along side a st801 film camera. The x20 isn't the best at anything but it's very adaptable in every situation. (if that situation excludes video it's worse then the x100) The lack of motors makes it super quiet. The size is also nice between a x100 and rx100.

    If you want the best auto focus system then just get freaking get a Sony end of story. Stop complaining, most people don’t buy Fuji for the best autofocus, I think…

    How would you go about then when you have a Leica M body for £4000 with next to no 'features' and zero autofocus at all? Is a camera not worth the price simply because of features ?

    • @taranspictures
      @taranspictures  6 місяців тому

      It's only that expensive because it says Leica. Yes Leica is a wonderful brand but it is too expensive for what you get, you may think otherwise and that's okay but personally I would never buy a Leica unless it's an incredible deal just so I can resell it because it would have no purpose in my set up

      @@taranspictures interesting take on it ! There’s no other companies making digital rangefinders though so I think for me it’s a lot about the experience of using a camera. They are out of my price range too but I don’t think that makes something overpriced. You can take great pictures on phones which arguably are also overpriced nowadays anyways compared to what they used to be. You pay for a beautiful handmade camera and the experience which no other company can offer currently hence the price. Paired with lenses that can seamlessly go on both your film camera and digital setup.

      100% Leica are doing some amazing things and the build quality alone justifies a higher price tag but personally I still think they are too expensive. The glass on the other hand is completely justified, I've never used a lens so sharp!
