As a teen who just started lifting instensively like a year ago, it's weird to think that i'm notably stronger than women who have spent years doing this. Not sexist, i just feel bad for them lol
If it hasn't been said directly, doing a focused powerlifting preparation and competition phase -even if the challenge-format videos (which are brilliant) take a hit-I think most of us would love to see that Will. Your real emotion for performing well when it matters is another level of entertainment.

Don't forget... in your journey of lifting everything isn't going to be linear... listening to how Patty isn't used to pushing anymore reminds me of last spring where I went through a phase of backing off and not pushing... all of my old overuse injuries vanished and I finally felt great, even things like dips which I couldn't do due to shoulder pain went away and I could do them again no problem... But, eventually come summertime I decided to push again and by late fall was hitting new PR's but now my body is feeling worse than ever, recently torn hamstring and my rotator cuff is atrocious and in pain round the clock... I love strength and lifting for higher numbers is great and all but don't forget about the longer term, in the end... it'll never be about the numbers, you want to be able to train indefinitely for the long haul!

I still would love to hit higher numbers but man it's a really risky gamble now, because sometimes things can feel great and come outta nowhere unexpectedly. Plus, once previously injured I feel it's way easier to reinjure the same area, because I've noticed that after such happens the reoccurence seems to happen much more easily.

Note: You inspired me to get into shape and thanks to you I have lost upwards of 13kgs in fat and built muscle all at the same time. And since this is a 1 rep max video here are my numbers after 7 months of consistency: Deadlift: 405 lbs (mad proud of this) Bench: 245 lbs Squat: 300 lbs
And his deadlift is not that far ahead of his squat, so either that's his anthropometric balance (short arms for how long his spine is) or perhaps he could push the deadlift up more (idk if fairly even backsqt and conventional dead is uncommon in PL tho, whereas for me, my femurs are long hindering my squat, but my arms are long too, so my deadlift is fairly ahead of my bcksqt)
@@mcfarvomy dl isn’t much better than my squat but yeah I have short arms so I definitely agree with you on that but I have long femurs and a great squat..but I train squats 2x a week and once I started doing that it blew up. It’s easier to recover from and train more than the deadlift for me.

Will's like the embodiment of modern positive masculinity. He's hot, he's muscular, he's confident - but he's clearly a really nice dude who doesn't take himself too seriously, is open with his feelings (he always says if he's nervous) and doesn't try to dominate the conversation all the time. He pushes himself to achieve his goals and has great self belief, but also tries other people's suggestions and listens to them. It was very telling that he thanked everyone after he did his squat PR - he was humble and inclusive. He's like all the good parts of masculine and some of the good parts of feminine - this guy is the kind of role model young men should have.

I was JUST at SoCal powerlifting last week (not sure when this was filmed), to do a mock meet for my prep. I'm from TN and was visiting, and with Will being from Canada it would've been crazy to see him there. I PRd in squat and deadlift as well so this gym is special

Technically PR's will vary depending on your distance from the equator. There's about 1/2 of 1% difference between the force of gravity on the equator vs the North or South pole. So you should always train at the North or South pole and then set records at the equator. Still a PR is a PR. Congrats.

I hear you. I've switched to lighter weights, high reps with pauses and slow eccentrics so I can save my joints. Still making progress.

Seeing Will hit those PRs inspired me to hit my own, today I lifted 10kg/22lb more than my previous deadlift PR for 10 reps! 🤯💪
