I replaced the strut and bottom mount on E93 yesterday. One of the E12 bolts rounded off and the captive nut on the old mount started spinning so had to lower spring arm to get access to cut E12 bolt with hacksaw. It them took me an hour and a half to get the bolt back in the spring arm as it wouldn't line up the other side. Lots of swearing later I eventually managed it. I'm in agony today with all they gymnastics that were involved! Managed the other side ok without having to lower the spring arm.
I usually compress the shock while the bottom mount bolts are already loosen and take it out and put in in quickly before the shock decompress. Great video though just needed to see if there’s a specific orientation of the mount!
Hi, I was going to do this today. Couldn’t get the torx bolts out with a socket so may need a nut gun on them. I know not supposed to on small ones but can’t see a way of getting them out
Hello Aaanton i need your expert advice my suspension the gap between the tyre and fender seems to have gone down by itself in the back and front any idea what the issue could be it is driving me nuts! I am about to put new struts on the front, the back ones were done in 2018 with new springs?
@@aaanton11 Yeah i think i may have to be honest, and thank you for replying! I was scouring your videos as you do and did think about the springs which i am heavily confused about in getting replacements Eibach, H and R, or Bilstein I am doing the waterpump and thermostat on Sunday thanks to your videos and more so Thank you for always shairing such amazing content! 💯
Nice work ….I did this job on my 12 E92 335xi today however I took the shock out instead of dealing with having to lower the spring arm. It seems a bit less fuss that way and you have easier access to the lower shock mount.
hello i have a 2007 bwm 320d E90 will it have the same bottom shocks as the one this guy is using? i know it says E90 in the title i just wanna make sure from someone else before i purchase the parts
@@aaanton11 ah thank you for the reply, its appreciated mate, also great video on showing as much as you could only video ive found that shows as much as you do great work!
No not at all, it's a firm ride but progressive. Normal driving the springs take bumps well, as they compress things stiffen up so its unlikely you will bottom the car out and the cornering is improved, the stance is a nice height not too low to make the car unusable, it will still go over speed bumps. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
My shock was leaking had to replace top bearing and lower rubber due stuckiness of the rust. Out of saving time replace lower rubbers shocks and springs
Its a nice improvement, lowers by around 30mm, its not too harsh, videos are front, ua-cam.com/video/Yr3n6Q6IgC8/v-deo.html and rear, ua-cam.com/video/-t-eQ0GToyQ/v-deo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Moral of the story. Don’t use impact guns on small bolts. It strips threads too easily. Laziness doesn’t save you any time when threads get stripped. Also bmw recommends to replace these bolts with new for a good reason.
This looks like it would be sooo much easier to do if you did at the same time as replacing the rear shock….i.e you wouldn’t have to lower the arm or remove the bottom bolt from the shock. Just undo the e-bolts and lift the whole shock out with the old mount attached

Literally need to to do this job next. Great timing 👍
Hopefully yours comes off nice and easy, plenty of lube needed, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Spot in. A must replace when replacing shocks. Thanks.

They do settle a small amount over time, but not a massive amount, have you got any broken springs?, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Hi sir, may I know why my e90 320d m-sport 2011 didn't have Bump Stop, i noticed that when I want to replace mount kit sets on my rear absorber?
They might have disintegrated or you might have the bilstein b12 shocks which have them internally, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Nice work 👍🏼
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
What is your opinion after installing bilstein b12 suspension kit? Does the car run too hard?

Hi! Does this part affect the height of the suspension? Did the clearance change after the replacement?
No difference in ride height, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
would i need an alignment after doing this?
No you are not changing the track, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
How do you feel about bilstein b12? How much does the car lower?

about an hour, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I am just lazy, replaced rear shocks with Sachs, Lemforder lower absorber mounts, top shock mounts. Sachs Rear springs also done.

You reused the two mount bolts, right? BMW says you must replace them, but of course they price them at $8 per bolt :/
Bmw want you to replace every bolt😂 these are not stretch bolts so they will be fine, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 That's what I was thinking. I'll be doing this to my 335d in a couple weeks. Thanks for the video
The joys of car diy on yr drive, using your foot for the trolley jack, that made me chuckle 😂, nice video though 👍

I’m waiting on new shock absorbers arriving for my E90 and have the bottom and top mounts to ready to replace - i’ll post back !

one lesson here - an impact wrench might be manly but not always a good idea…..
