As a Norwegian, I am happy about our entry this year! This is Norwegian culture, Norwegian music, and it's all typically Norwegian. Finally, we're sending something other than smooth pop, and I don't care about the result we get. This is Norway!
Norwegian here. This is something I’ve wanted from Norway for such a long time. The pop-songs we’ve sent the recent years have become stale to me. Queen of The Kings and Spirit in The Sky were both great songs, but this is what I think Norway needed to send this year. I felt that this stood out tremendously from the generic pop-songs from this MGP final. Finally something that feels Norwegian and Scandinavian, finally singing in Norwegian, finally having cultural elements in a song, I absolutely love it. I know that probably a majority of Europe won’t understand what this song makes us Norwegians feel, but I won’t be disappointed. It’s similar to Spain’s entrant last year, the Spanish didn’t care what Europe thought of it because it represented something special for Spain, likewise what «ulveham» represents for us.
Thank you for reacting♥🇳🇴 I think this is absolutely captivating. Awesome. Epic. So proud we are sending something authentic over the pop/plastic/generic this year!! Yeeey. Hoping 🙏 that juries will love this one, too.
Hi, I am Norwegian 🇧🇻 The singing in the beginning of the song is "kulokk", tradditionally how they called the cows to them in the contryside. The text is telling a 1000 year old folklore story about an evil stepmother cursing her stepdaugter to be a wolf alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the curse is to drink her brothers blood. In the end she sees her stepmother in the forrest so she attacks and eats her. Turns out her stepmother was pregnant, leading her to drink her brothers blood and breaks the curse.
the lyrics are based on a 1,000-year-old ballad. the music itself is gone and only the lyrics remain. the way she sings is traditional. the calls are based on the maiden calling the animals in for the evening and it can be heard between the mountains, a bit like yodeling in Switzerland.
This was my favourite from the start. I have followed Gåte for many years. This is so Norwegian that it can get. I am so proud that we send Gåte to Eurovision.🇧🇻 The jury points counted 60 to 40%. They voted mostly Keino. And there song sounded like aqua on crack. But the people and gåte beat the jury. I't may not win eurovision because of the jury. But i really hope that Gåte and the european population show the jury wrong. Anyways, if they don't win. It doesn't matter. This is Norway🇧🇻
This pure Norwegian folk mixed with rock nothing celtic in it. She is singing a form of herd calling called kulokk that has roots at least a 1000 years back. The only reason they did not win with a landslide was because of the International "expert"jury.
I think it is one of the proposals that is positioned at the highest positions in my top this year, the first real "Edwin Allert", and I agree with you, the combination of all the elements is so impeccable that it is going to be very good valued by the jury, assuming that the public in the semi-final makes him qualify (which without a doubt they will)... Blessings and greetings from Venezuela!!!
This is Norway. Old fairy tale about a stephmother cursing the stepdaughter because of jealousy. It's a story that's common in the Nordic countries. And it's 1000 years old. Gåte is one of our most famous bands, using traditional music with rock. They are known for their amazing shows. Like another commenter here said, I don't care if we win or not. And I loved Keiinos and Subwoofers stuff from past years, but Gåte is singing our Norwegian souls. Or maybe our Nordic souls. The instrument is originally sweedish, but used all over the north in traditional music.
Vi vet at nøkkelharpa kommer fra Europa (kontinentet) opprinnelig. På 1600-tallet fantes det også i Tyskland, Danmark og Norge. Vi vet at det var mer utbredt i Sverige, men det er en del av vår historie også.
He is right. The ref is an acient calling. Its kulukk. Its a way norwegian Budeier or cultural norwegian farmgirls sang to attrack their cattles in the mountains.
Norway Gåte ,Many people are not aware of what she actually sings, which in my opinion is a cruel text from the old days. And i am from Norway ! The text copied from newspaper: She summarizes "Ulveham", based on an old medieval ballad, as the story of an evil stepmother who casts a curse on her stepdaughter - who turns into a wolf running in the forest forever. She only loses her wolf's hide if she drinks her own brother's blood. "There will be a kind of happy - but cruel - ending when she meets the stepmother on horseback in the forest, throws herself at her, rips out her heart and drinks the blood. Because the stepmother is pregnant with her brother - thereby the curse is lifted
Its a very dark text and old. Im prowed🇳🇴. But sad they have to take away the text, some stupid people say they canånt use it becouse its over 1000 year old medieval ballad. They have to make a new text, its sooo sad 😢. She sings- I was a fare and thin maisen. With a stepmother evil,my mother died She turned me into a sword and a needle And send me off to the king's court And my stepmother's anger felt the most When everyone food liked me the best She gave me a wolf gray fur She swore I would walk alone in the forest And I will never be whole and well Before I drink my brother's blood

My favourite. Wish Ireland would do something like this but Celtic and in Irish.
that's a dream us Irish eurofans have since 1996... still waiting!
Like your profile pic there,, ...You look like The Big Fellah 👍☘ Erin Go Bragh!
It’s based on a traditional ‘kulokk’, which is a kind of song used to call the cows back from the pasture.
it's just magical!!!
great reaction, I would love to suggest a reaction to Gåte again, but then with "Svarteboka" :-) It's awesome too
Thank you;)
love from Norway!
you guys are AMAZING this year!!

I love both sides of Norwegian music (huge Keiino fan here) but I needed something like THIS in Eurovision!

Why is the sound of the band/artist soooo low ? All got from this is you talking away.
