This film used to scare me so much as a child and it still creeps me out now lol.

I used to be obsessed with this movie as a kid. I wanted to watch it all the time over and over. Only now that I'm 22 do I understand why it spoke to me so much. Half a year ago I was diagnosed with autism and so many puzzle pieces of my life fell together and I finally had an explanation for why I always felt different. As a kid I related to Pinocchio because he was trying to understand the world of people, taking everything literally, trying so hard to be a "real" boy and fit in. That's exactly how I felt as a child.

I hope it's a sequel to this in particular but of course how can you make a sequel to Pinnochio right. It's just that this is the version I grew up on and watched in the mid 90s. The Disney version is more disturbing in my opinion, especially since they actually turned back into boys at the end pf this live action version. In the Disney version however... The boys weren't so lucky, and weren't given a cure.

I remember this movie as a little kid and back then I wasn’t bothered by Pinocchio’s looks and didn’t think anything of it, but now that we’re here in 2021 and nearing 2022, this movie still holds a place in my heart, but dang, Pinocchio in this movie just unsettles me now. Everything feels so off, but nostalgic!

I don't know what they were thinking when they came up with that design. I mean, did ANYONE look at Pinocchio and say, "He doesn't look creepy at all!"?
I know right? He looks like Andy from Toy Story mixed with Yoda and the mummy of Ramesses II (sorry for making fun of the dead, but it's true)! I think the film makers just thought "OMG that's amazing! He looks just like a real human boy, just like the book! I'm sure the kids who watch this film will be hugely inspired by it!", well they're NOT! Plus if you're gonna make him look "almost alive", make him at least less nightmarish by making sure that he doesn't look as lifeless as a Food Fight-character!

I remember this movie... It gave me nightmares when I was a kid. I would be laying down in bed and I would hear my heart beating and I would think its Pinocchio coming for me. I would try to block it out but it just made my heart beat even faster making it seem like he was moving faster towards me. Fuck this movie.

I love this movie as a child and used to watch it every night! I even had a VCR tape of the movie.
Now I know why people thought I was a werid kid.
This was such a masterpiece version of Pinocchio. From the use of practical effects, a literal puppet, to the true to source of the original book (aside from ending), connecting events so they were not so deus ex machina and plot coincidence. Pinocchio's confidence slowly building through the film, his struggles with finding who he is and where he belongs, despite failure after failure and miscommunication, and learning remorse for his brash actions.
And fuck that bakery scene slapped. Those cakes and pastries! I wanted to nom those as a kid. Who else wants to join me in fantasy bakery?

This version will always be superior than the 2022 movie (imo) this one had so much more depth in the storyline and kept me on the edge of my seat. The new one is just full of cgi and disney promos. Felt like they skipped a lot aswell. This one doesn't get enough credit.

I had the VHS tape and only watched it once because even the cover freaked me out. All I remember is a scene where’s he being chased by birds and starts running while flailing his arms trying to get them to stop chasing them.
