  • Shot in stunning Italian locations, Matteo Garrone’s rich world of mystery and wonder stars Academy Award® winning actor Roberto Benigni as Geppetto, the old woodcarver whose puppet creation, Pinocchio, magically comes to life with dreams of becoming a real boy. Easily led astray, Pinocchio (nine-year-old Federico Ielapi) tumbles from one misadventure to another as he is tricked, kidnapped and chased by bandits through a wonderful world full of imaginative creatures - from the belly of a giant fish, to the Land Of Toys and the Field Of Miracles.

I don't understand the dislikes, this movie was fantastic. A legit, borderline masterpiece. Gives ya dark, touching, epic, creepy, beautiful, and sweet. The amazing practical effects, the heartfelt performances. You can see and feel the love that went into making the film. It was as good as the story of Pinocchio could possibly get. I loved it 😊

I'm so sick and tired of moviegoers trash-talking about this beautiful film. The reason why audiences gave this Pinocchio film such mediocre reviews is because most people are unfamiliar with the original novel by Carlo Collodi and think Pinocchio was an entirely original idea from Walt Disney. Pinocchio has its origin as a dark, twisted children's story just like all the other Disney adaptations of classic fairy tales. I'm a die-hard fan of the Collodi story and when I watched this movie, I loved it, I thought it was the definitive live action adaptation of the book. Those who keep saying "oh this movie sucked", "Pinocchio is creepy looking", "this looks so lame", "I don't want my kids seeing this", "blah, blah, blah, blah", just shut up already, you're all stupid and ignorant! Matteo Garrone did a solid job and Roberto Benigni certainly redeemed himself from his first Pinocchio film, the problem is audiences are being closed-minded. You know, kids can handle a lot more than what we give them credit for, if kids these days can play violent video games and if they can stomach the contents of Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Hunger Games, which were way darker and violent, had scarier visuals and contained horrible life or death situations, they can handle the original Pinocchio, which is an innocent bedtime story compared to those other stories.
Also, I would have settled for the film being subtitled, but I'm happy that it's being dubbed, from what I've seen in this trailer, I think it seems pretty decent. And guess what? Not everybody likes reading subtitles, it can be distracting. And think about blind people who want to go see this movie, they wouldn't be able to read the subtitles so they would have to rely on it being dubbed.

I understand they do it for money but they are destroying the origins because they have no imagination of their own.
Now their destruction of cultures has accelerated due to the pressure to force things into these stories so as not to offend others , not considering they are offending the culture the story originated from. I'm actually just watching this on Prime and I think this is a real gem. Of course I really wouldn't recommend it for young children, ie say like kids under 10, let them watch the Disney version. But actually that's just my opinion I totally leave that call up to the parents. I actually watched this in Italian language first before finding out it has a dubbed English voice option so I'm rewatching. I usually don't like dubbed but they did this in Italian accent English and it's totally well done. The cinematography, the music, the costume designs, the makeup, the acting is all outstanding well done. I don't know why IMDb6 gave it a 6.2 out of 10 not that that's so bad but it should have been high 7s or even 8.

But that's why I love it now, haha! It's truly a very deep and thought-provoking story, extremely relevant today in relation to Hollywood, the elites, exploitation of young actors, paedophilia, as well as the general encouragement for all of us to indulge in pleasures and avoid responsibility for our actions!
In any case, it's amazing that the country of origin of the story has made a live-action movie which is true to the book. That would make it so much more authentic than if it was remade by Disney again, like all the others.

I love this movie so much! It's my second favorite Pinocchio movie after the animated Disney version! I think Roberto Benigni is perfect as Geppetto! I love how he plays him as the perfect loving father which is exactly how I imagined Geppetto when I read the book! And it's so cute to see! Pinocchio in this version is also perfect, he is just as misbehaving at the beginning like he was in the book which most version miss. This version also shows such a sweet father son realtionship and has the most touching reunion scene of all the Pinocchio versions! This version is incredible!

I think it's based off the original book (and I mean the old Italian dark times book, I mean the one from like the 1881 or something like that), not Disney's version from 1940, but I think this movie is going to be PG so obviously they're going to keep out all the really bad stuff from the old original book
And honestly I think they did a good job on making the character less creepy than most people's expectations when hearing of a live action version of pinocchio

"I am tired," he said, but Geppetto's bed was too tall."I am cold and hungry and tired, and there is no one here to take care of me!" Big tears ran down his wooden face."Well if you hadn't been a bad boy, Geppetto would be here," said a tiny voice."Who's there?" asked Pinocchio, a little scared.Night was falling and the room was getting dark.Pinocchio couldn't see anyone."I am," said the voice again, with a chirping sound. A small candle on the table suddenly lit up.Pinocchio saw a cricket crawling down the candle."Oh! You are bug!" said Pinocchio."Who are you?" "My name is Mick the Cricket. You may call me Mr. Cricket. I have lived in this room for one hundres years. But I have never seen such a bad boy as you!" he scolded."I don't like you either!" said Pinocchio. He was mad at the cricket for calling him a bad boy."Shame on you for being rude!"chirped the cricket."I am trying to help you, and Geppetto has been very kind.Is this how you thank your friends? If so, you will have very bad friends.Children should honor their parents and you have not!" Pinocchio banged his hand on the table. He was trying to squash Mr. Cricket! "I'll show you! I can have all the friends I want!" Pinocchio screamed.I can do whatever I want! I don't have to honor anyone! I am going to go on adventures. One day, I will be rich and famous!" Mr. Cricket jumpet to the floor to run away. But Pinocchio chased him and tried to step on him."You are making very bad chices!" said the cricket."One day those bad choices will hurt you.You can't run away from the choices you've made. You must learn to do honest work and study to be a good boy," he chirped and he ran toward the door." I won't work.I won't study. I won't listen to what you say!I will do only what I won't!" Pinocchio screamed. Mr. Cricket ran under the door.Pinocchio kicked the door.He walked over to the table, sat down, and started to cry. "I won't listen to you or anyone else," he cried. He fell asleep with teardrops dripping off his nose. The morning the police let Geppetto go back to his house. Meanwhile,Pinocchio was at home crying, because he was tired and hungry and had no clothes.
