How to Fix a Propane Tank Low or No Pressure
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- This advise was given to me and done by the local refilling station. Try disconnecting the tank for a couple mins. 1st. If that doesn't work, take the tank back to the refilling station and have it checked. It could also be a bad regulator.
My dog and I have been freezing for days. Spent the last of my cash on a tank swap and when I got home nothing I hooked the tank to would stay lit. Tried numerous official and unofficial "fixes" and got exactly nowhere. Watched this about an hour ago and now we are nice and toasty. We thank you greatly for passing this on kind sir.
I'm so glad this worked for you and your dog! I know what it's like to not have heat or electricity.
Stay safe and warm my friend.
I had a problem with an exchange tank on my grill. So I hooked up my weed burner which uses the inner threads and it worked. Then I hooked it back up to the grill and it worked
DO NOT USE THE TANK SWAP OR EXCHANGE you are getting rip off! you are only getting 14 to 15.5 pounds of propane in that 20 pound tank! Find a place that will refill your tank Big R here in Colorado will do it but call a propane dealer and ask if they refill the smaller tanks. The going rate is over $20 with tax on and exchange tank I get a full 20 pounds for a litte over $15 with tax.

I had a new propane tank that would not work . . . burners would not light. My local BBQ grill store said to burb the tank (essentially turning off all the burners and turn off the tank, then disconnect the regulator from the tank, wait 30 seconds and then reconnect the regulator) and still nothing. I even spoke with Viking and they said my 20 year old stainless steel grill needed a new regulator and manifold ($425 . . . .ouch!). Found your video and thought why not try your suggestion before shelling out money to Viking. Bleed the tank for about 2.5 minutes, tapped the regulator a couple of times just for good measure and the darn thing fired right up. I'm not saying I did not believe your video (you know their is so much stuff on the internet), but I was definitely pleasantly surprised. Great video and even better advise!
I'm familiar with the other methods. Glad it worked for you Michael. Sounds like it saved you a ton of money and time. Thanks for coming by and checking it out.
That hissing just sounds wrong and gives me major panic attacks. I did it away from my house and closer to my idiot neighbor’s place. Worked like a charm for both my propane tank and my panic attacks, but my neighbor is still an idiot.
Burp, not burb.
So I too had this problem. I take my tank to Costco to refill. The attendant told me dirt builds up inside (??) and that I should just bang it on the ground or just get a new tank. After putting 3$ in (it was still mostly full) I took it home and had the same thing happen again. Thus, finding your video seems to have fixed the problem. Hopefully for good. I use mine in a fire pit and stand heater. No fun when they stop working on a cold morning or evening! Thank you!
Glad it worked for you Kevin. Thanks checking it out.
I have a torch for weed burning. Got a new tank and the torch wasn't working. You saved me from pulling weeds! It's 2024 amd your still helping people out. Thank you!
Excellent! Yeah, it still works. LOL! Thanks Devin!
2022 and people are still following this advise. Thanks brother!
Wanted to thank you for this video as I too have been freezing in a trailer with a filled propane tank that wasn’t working… so thank you for your generosity in sharing this And helping people in today’s world where Good help And generosity to help another is hard to find, especially after it was so cruel and made us homeless during the entire covid 19 epidemic and the stress from that put my wife in the hospital Since Christmas day 2021… So Thank you and God bless
Man, I'm glad that worked for you Steven! I'm sorry to hear of the things you've gone through. Still a lot of good people, even in today's harsher
environment. Thank you and hope things turn around for you and your family soon!
Worked for me! Just got a brand new tank and was baffled, reset the regulator and then bled the tank for 2 mins exactly! Thank you!!!
Great! Thanks for coming by.
Thank you!
Was storing my tanks under the stairs and couldn't get any pressure....did this and works perfectly!
Thank you!
👍🏻
Thanks for posting. Doing this solved my problem and saved me $20 because I was going to swap out a perfectly good tank.
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you, just had this happen and no one sugested this. Not even th RV specialists. Had no hot water for 4 days. You were vere thorough.
Awesome! I'm glad you got it working!
THANK YOU!!!!! This solved my propane gas logs problem and was going to try this, since this is exactly what the licensed refillers do at beginning of cooling season and later to refill faster ... they told me. The worse tanks were the 40# tall boys, the only ones having fuel sitting in them all hot, humid summer. Since the 30# summer empty ones filled & burned all fuel & the 40s did not empty fully (1/3 left by weight) guessed it was NOT regulator and even placed a heated gel pack on it when the 40# flamed out, so that trick rules reg. out. No electric, fires, etc. around, I only "purged" about 60 seconds "to get the humidity out" in this 16-27F weather. Presto chango it now works beautifully as in years past. Also ordered a couple of cheap heating pads whose specs. say they don't get too hot b/c am too cheap to buy $100 propane tank heating sleeves on Google. Again, THANK YOU for taking the time for posting ... and risking the slings & arrows of slope heads on social media, not grounded from any real research.
Seems it has helped save some cook outs. Others say it's crazy, as you may have seen by some of the comments. Glad it worked for you Bo. It worked for me as well. Just thought I'd pass it along. Thanks for your comment & understanding. Keep on cooking brother!
I had 1 tank that worked , and full tank that didn’t work I bled it off like you said and full tank now works . Thanks ! I even tested to make sure regulator wasn’t faulty I hooked up the old tank again and it worked but full tank didn’t which makes me believe the regulator isn’t faulty it’s the valve on the tank or the tank was over filled a little too much
Whoa this worked for me, I was about to go refill my propane tank even though the gauge says it’s half a tank. THANK YOU GENEROUS HOST!!! 😄
Well ill be damned! It worked!!
Only took about 20 seconds and my pressure came right back. Thanks for saving my grillout man!
Hahaha! Happy grilling bud!
It worked! thanks! Only took me about 5 seconds of bleeding.
That's great! Thanks for checking it out.
I followed the 2 minute release instructions by POPUP, (I moved my tank away from the house/grill) and then reconnected it. I slowly turned the valve from open (I usually turn it quickly). Crossed my fingers and...
First attempt I have a strong flame and it works perfect. I'll let you know if it changes. Thanks for the video, POPUP.
Thanks Coach.
Had this problem just lastnight 9/20/21. Caught some fish over the weekend and wanted to fry them up for dinner....pressure was low and usually I disconnect the hose and reconnect and it would work, but this time it didn't after several tries.Tried your method and it worked!!! Dinner was late but dinner was served👍
That's great, thanks for coming by!
Thank you so much for posting this! We had NO pressure on our tank after a teenager working at a gas station filled it. (I wish these kid would have received some sort of real training). We were unable to cook and the weather was quite cold. Fortunately I managed to find your video and the bleeding technique works very well. Am extremely grateful that you took the time to share your knowledge and post this! Thank you so much again!
That's great! Glad it worked for you. Thank you!
My regulator was not stuck (I tried it on an extra bottle) and it worked fine. I tried a different regulator and hose on the "bad" bottle and still no luck. I found the screw you pointed out, opened it for less than 3 seconds and voila...it's working again. It saved me a trip to Walmart who I'm sure would have replaced my "bad" bottle. Thanks. The negative comments seem to be coming from people who are confusing a safety feature on the regulator and not a problem with the propane tank valve.
Thanks
Thanks. I was driving myself crazy. Talked grill mfg into sending a new regulator. When that didn't work, came here. Worked.
Awesome! And you've got a spare regulator. LOL! Good to see you're back on the grill and thanks for coming by!
Another overfilled tank problem is now solved today, thanks to you and your video!
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment Pat.
Ive been having trouble with my propane grill for a little while now. Doesnt want to stay warm. Gets up about half way and thats all. Great vid!
If this doesn't change anything, replace the regulator. A universal regulator runs around 20 dollars. Thanks Wil.
Thanks! Have changed the tank, the fuel filter and the hose to my heater. Plan to try this next. Appreciate you uploading this.
Thanks for checking it out Stella.
Your advice cured my propane tank problem. It must need to be purged because it has an awful lot of traded air.
Thank You!
Thanks man just fixed a “new” refill for my pops it was so pressured I had to stick the screwdriver in and press that part in as well but it’s up and running and he’s happy he didn’t waste $20
Haha! Glad that worked for you guys. Thanks for coming by Jim.
Thanks for the helpful advice . I duplicated your instructions but only bled the tank for 30 seconds. Tyvm
Glad it worked for you Nathan. Thanks for checking it out.
I had this problem and I swapped out the pressure regulator on the bbq and it worked perfect
That's great. Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.
This saved the party 100 miles from any store, Thanks Bro!.
That's awesome!
Is it OK to smoke a cigarette while watching this video? But seriously....thanks for this. I tried slamming the tank down [hardware store tip], the "unscrew the regulator" routine [like lostART tried]....but THIS did the trick! I have a horizontal tank in my truck camper. WooHoo! Ready to go winter camping! Thanks again!
LOL! Glad it worked. Best to ya on the winter camping! Thanks!
I have this same issue with my RV tanks right after they are refilled.
Thanks for the tip.
Got that tip from the guy at the refill station. My pleasure bud.
tx for taking the time. Like your truck too.
Thanks and for leaving a comment too.
Thanks so much!! After watching a few UA-cam videos this one was magic!! Problem SOLVED!
Thanks for checking it out Colleen. Glad it worked for you!
This worked perfectly. Grill functioning great! Cheers!
Awesome! Cheers David!
I get my tanks filled at the one and only place in town. Seems every time I go to get them filled it's a new person doing it. Makes me nervous. This last time a girl over filled one tank and the regulator kept freezing up. I had to loosen the bleeder screw until liquid stopped coming out to finally get it to work. They rely to much on the over fill valve inside the tank . When they are turning on a pump and forcing propane in the tank it looks to me like they could still force extra propane in the tank.
How freaking random!!!!! I have 2 propane tanks that need this exactly!!!!!! Thank you!!!
No way! Hahaha! Probably skip the cigarette bud. LOL! Thanks for checking it out!
Add me to the club. I watched the video and skeptically thought, "Alright, let's try this and see how it goes.". Ha Ha! Worked perfectly. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks for coming by. I'm glad it worked for you!
I have the exact same grill and propain tank. I followed these instructions and guess what. It worked! Yer a backyard bbq hero. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it worked out for you. Thanks.
Thanks Popup, I was able to fix it using the bleeding valve, like you showed. But I only let it bleed for less than 30 seconds at full blast.
But I gotta tell you, your videos would get a lot more likes than dislikes if you limit your rambling. When we people click on problem-solving videos we expect to get a solution as quickly as possible. Like in this case, I had friends coming and I was sweating like a pig trying to fix the issue. You might have great stories about your truck, the cookout you had yesterday, the weather and so on, but anything that is not related to the problem typically annoys the viewers. Other than that, great tip.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for your video it help me a lot and fix my problem no matter what anybody says it help me a bunch ,
Thanks Marco. Seems I stirred things up a little with this one. It worked for me as well. Happy cooking!
Worked like a charm. Thank you for posting this solution 👍👍👍
That's great! Thanks!
2024 and this worked! Thanks.
👍 Thanks for checking it out.
I bought one of those gauges with a needle that reads green full. Yellow low and empty. Red. But even when I know tank is empty the gauge shows still full. So I released air until gushed showed low propane. When I go have it filled will it still work?
If it's good it will.
Don't overtighten screw!!!! I just broke mine because it was overtightened from when I didnt know what it was. Good news is somebody gave me one that they thought was no good, and this method fixed it. Worked on one, broke the other one
Bummer on that. Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.
Just saved my ass from a bunch of hungry people, thank you Sir.
LOL! That's a good thing! Thanks for checking it out.
I don't know if it is safe or not ,but IT WORKS ,THANKS FOR SHARING .
Thanks for coming by.
You sound like you're from Maine. My parents are in Georgetown, you sound like the locals. Thanks for the info
Ya, I get that often. I'm in northeastern Vermont. Thanks for coming by Peter.
Thank you, you saved my husband from having to cook dinner😂😂
😂 Good deal,...for him!
thank you for the video.works great now.i will have to remember to carry a screw driver on my next campout
Thanks for checking it out. Might be a good idea.
Holy crap it worked. The crackhead at the tractor supply store overfilled it.
Never heard of that happening. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
Seriously. The tapping on the regulatior and rhr hose worked for me. Guess something is holding the pressure down.
Sometimes that's all it takes.
Just did this but i lit the gas on fire so it wouldn't explode. What a flame! Worked great, steaks came out tasty AF
In my case the no pressure problem was the spring valve inside the valve! The one that releases the gas when you connect the grill gas hose!
Hey . Thanks for the video. I work in propane. By opening your what I call a spit value your just wasting propane and by lightning a lighter after doing that is dangerous. Plz stop doing that. !!!! Those screws are used when your filling the tank . It releases the pressure as its filling so you don't over fill it and blow yourself up . . . Also take that sticker off your tanks . It makes them rust out n pit and creates a weak spot. Anyway happy grilling
I guess this would work if they over filled the tank as well .
Thanks
If it doesn’t work the first time, try 2 more minutes!! Don’t give up immediately. Try longer. Sometimes 3-4 minutes..
Worked for me on the second time, two minutes each time. Thank you.
That's great. Thanks for checking out the channel.
So you just let it run for two minutes and then screw it shut. After that it works? I got a refill from the store and it hasn't worked since I got it but it's full. I'm assuming this is the problem?
Bring it back and ask them to fix it for you.
Is this only for full yanks that have the issue or any level tanks that have the issue?
Mine had just been filled. If this didn't work, disconnect your tank and reconnect it. Turn the gas on slowly and check it. If still not working it may be a bad regulator.
Very cool tip. And that truck is so awesome 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks! I've got a bunch of videos with the truck.
Works like a charm, thank you
Dick at Tractor supply didn't purge a new tank for me. Thanks this fixed the problem.
Saved our bbq, thanks
That's great, thanks for coming by.
Thank you! You save my party!
Awesome! Ye-Haw!
This fixed my issue thanks
Thanks for coming by
Thank you so much , it worked perfectly !
Awesome! Thanks for coming by!
Thank you very much - exactly my problem.
My pleasure. Glad it worked.
Worked for me. I only opened the valve for about 5 seconds.
Awesome!
are you celebrating by having a cookout there Pat? LOL nice blog by the way.
You know it Brian! Thanks!!
Lol you're welcome:)
Great video. Thanks so much.
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Turning off the knobs and then the tank for one minute and cracking the bleeder for ten seconds, closing it, and then re-lighting after another 60 seconds worked for me. It should have reset the regulator.
*Make sure all gas has dissipated.*
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.
Thanks for sharing. What accent is that. Boston maybe?
Thanks for checking it out Brent. Just north of Boston, I'm in Vermont.
@@popup1959 I appreciate the time you put in to make that vid for me. When a video helps me solve a problem,…..that’s exactly how I view it. “Dude did that to help me and I love him now!”
Whether something works or is worth the price, or is just plain junk, I always share with anyone that is looking for an answer. Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment. Makes it all worth it and the world could use some more of that for sure man! Have an awesome day bud!
Nicely done. Thank you!
Thanks, glad it worked for you!
Could it have needed to be purged?
Nice sharing my friend but please take care always
Thanks friend. Will do.
Worked great thanks for the tip
Thanks for coming by Kevin.
So yeah…actually works
I had the same problem and your solution worked great. THANKS!!! 👍👍

Worked great!! Thanks
Great! Thanks for checking it out.
Worked for me. Thanks
That's great. Thanks for coming by.
Sounds like a fellow Mainer
Close. I'm in Vermont.
Thank you!
Works like a charm.
Can't be afraid to let it bleed too long. I had to bleed it twice.
Glad it worked for you Joseph. Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you so very much I did try what you said and it did work but I think we may have to end up turning this tank into so I think you from the bottom of my heart bless it be may you have glorious BBQs
Glad that worked for you Donna! :)
Good to know. tfs!
Yep it worked thanks
Thanks for the video sir...Can you tell me howmuch is a minitruck like that one on this video and where is the best place to buy it...thanks in advance.
I bought mine used for 5400. They put a 2 inch lift & over sized ATV tires & rims on it for me. Then it was shipped to me in Vermont from Fremont Ohio. After all that, it ended up around 7500. The dealer I got mine from, Frremont Mini Trucks has gone out of business I believe. There's another place I trust. Don't have the name right here but should you decide that you're interested, I'll find that info for you. I've got quite a few videos on this channel with that Mini Truck. Check them out if you'd like.
Thanks
👍
This is definitely a nice piece of information to know. Thanks for sharing brother.
I had it ruin my cookout one day so I figured maybe it would save someone. You bet bro!
It worked. Thanks
Thanks for coming by.
Can you empty a tank this way if your valve is broken. ? And want to use the tank for somthing.
Must agree with JT. If you or a friend were cigarette smokers attempting this move, we might have been reading about you in the "Darwin Awards". I wonder where the well-meaning propane attendant came up with the "2-minute" bleed time. Probably has something to do with purging the "bad gas".
This worked!!!!! Thank you buddy!!!!!
That's great! Thanks for coming by bud!
Worked great! Thanks man!
Glad it worked!
Procedure Worked Great
Thank you it worked good
That's great, thanks for coming by
Your video so nice, from Indonesian 👍🏻
Thank you! Nice to meet you and welcome.
I can’t turn the valve, the tank is only 1 year old. I haven’t used it for over 6 months. It isn’t completely closed, would built up pressure be the problem?
Try using a rag on the valve to get a better grip. Use both hands if you have to. Some connectors turn to the right to loosen. Perhaps that's the problem.
Worked for me !!!
👍👍 Thanks for leaving a comment
Great video bro
Thanks
Why does this work? Too much propane to allow it to work?
