Mocute 060 Review - A low cost mobile games controller that can take BIG phones

  • I realised after publishing the video that I'd missed out quite a bit of what I originally planned to include. I'd had a few issues with filming and editing this, and after the 3rd attempt I eventually got sick of it! So here is a summary of someof the bits I missed out...
    Pairing - it can pair as either a Mocute 060 or a 'Wireless Controller'. Take your pick. This is covered in the instructions that come with the controller. At the end of the day even the one that 'worked' with my phones didn't really work properly.
    Button mapping - It was all over the place and it was a mess when tested with the Gamepad Tester app. This was irrespective of the way in which the controller was paired.
    Thumbsticks - They felt OK but had dead zones, particularly the left stick. This largely became irrelevant dues to basic button functionality being so problematic.
    Sorry for missing all of the above (and more) out of the video, but I'd really had enough of this thing and the numerous problems I had with videoing it!
    00:00 Introduction
    00:13 Unboxing the Mocute 060
    00:46 The Mocute 060 and large phones
    01:05 The d-pad and buttons
    01:53 Shoulder buttons and triggers
    02:48 Gameplay latency
    03:09 Ergonomonics
    03:39 Mocute 060 button mapping problems

    I am trying out this controller, and seriously appreciate this review! It's given me more ideas to look into for this controller as well as a few others I'm trying out. FWIW, the right shoulder button on my unit clicks no matter where I press it, just like the left shoulder button. Maybe it goes back to quality control? In any case, I don't think I'll be keeping this controller, as the other two I'm testing right now are miles and away better for my purposes. Thanks for the video :)

      Glad you found the video useful! I've used one of Mocute's other controllers and it was almost as bad. The quality control seems very hit or miss with this company. Which other controllers are you considering?

      @@RetroGamesWorld I almost feel like I could list off what controllers I HAVEN'T tried and it might be faster! I recently upgraded to a Samsung Z Fold 3 5G, and pretty much only play CoD Mobile. On my last phone, I used an Emish mobile game controller, which provided 4 "triggers" and everything else was done by touch, but it doesn't fit the Fold 3. I've been looking for something that operates similarly, or at least isn't too dissimilar. So far, I've tried this Mocute 060, the GameSir X2 (Bluetooth and Type C), GameSir X3, GameSir F7 Claw, Ipega 9083S, Saitake 7007f, and the Emish mobile controller for tablets. I've poured over video after video of these and even more controllers, and I think I'm basically stuck with either the Emish controller for tablets, the Saitake, or the Ipega.
      I might still try the iPega PG-9167 or some other single-sided controller (like the Mocute 058, except I probably won't try Mocute again). But for now, the Emish controller for tablets seems to be the best fit for my needs.

      Blimey, it sounds like it should be you doing the controller reviews, not me! I'm waiting on the Gamesir X2 Pro to be delivered. But if you've ruled out the X2 and X3 and are leaning towards the single sided controllers then it might not work for you either.

      I was looking forward to the Backbone for Android and the Razer Kishi 2 Pro, because both of those have 3.5mm audio sockets. I said *was* because I've contacted the Backbone people twice with questions and they haven't been able to answer a single question, ignoring most of them, and failing to answer anything. I'm not talking difficult things here, I was asking questions like what size phone would it take. The best I could get out of them was 'most'. So I won't be buying that. A sky high price and appallingly useless customer service. It looked good on paper though.
      The Razer Kishi V2 Pro looks interesting, but I can't see them selling that any time soon, as why would anyone buy the Razer Edge if they could just get the controller and use their own phone.
      But out of the controllers I have bought and use, assuming you are looking for a telescopic controller, the one I've found to be the best so far is the Gamesir X2 Pro. It's not perfect, but definitely the best of a bad bunch. It's got analogue triggers and if you can get it for about $80 USD then for the money, and compared with the competition, it's pretty good. A word of warning though about all of the USB C controllers - they drain more battery than they claim, and not every USB C controller works with every USB C phone, and the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack does my head in!
      Hope that helps.

    The best bang for your buck phone controller I've used until now has been the Ipega Red Knight. It's pretty compact, has a great feeling d pad and no latency issues. The only problem is it doesn't fit my new, larger phone. I'm hoping to get one that feels the same at a similar price point, but that fits my 6.8 inches Moto G60. So far I've had not luck. I tried the Ipega 9167 but the ergonomics are horrible. The 9083s feels a bit better ergonomically but it's way too bulky. This Mocute 60 one seems to also have ergonomics problems. Still looking for my dream phone controller it seems.

    • @RetroGamesWorld

      The iPega Red Knight was the first stretchy controller I ever bought. It was cheap but I have to admit I really hated it. And yes, I'm still looking for my dream controller too. I'm hoping the Razer Kishi 2 Pro (if they release it as a standalone product) or the Backbone for Android might be it.

    Does the D-pad ever register false commands. For example: if you push slightly up on the right or left portion of the D-pad, does the controller register the "up" command? I like to play fighting games so this is pretty important to me. Thanks for the video.

    • @thomasre9382

    The biggest issue I had with the Mocute is that in xinput mode, when the left and right triggers were assigned to emulated games they would register as being constantly held down. Awful mobile controller in general.

    (Sorry for my bad English)

    • @RetroGamesWorld
      @RetroGamesWorld  Рік тому

      If you mean the Saitake 7007 series then without a doubt the Saitake is the better controller. I have one (not sure if it is the 7007X or F or whatever) and while the build quality and performance are not up to the standard of more expensive controllers, it is miles better than the Mocute. However, the Mocute can fit bigger phones whereas the Saitake can't. I think the biggest the Saitake can take is about 6.3 inches, but the LG-V60 i use is about 6.8 inches, so the Satake is useless to me with that phone. It's tricky getting a good quality controller that will fit a larger phone, and do it at a reasonable price!

      @@RetroGamesWorld but is the mocute 060 still worth to buy for the price they offered?

    • @RetroGamesWorld
      @RetroGamesWorld  Рік тому

      Honestly, that's a question only you can answer. You've watched the video. I mentioned most of the problems I had. The decision you have to make is whether saving a few dollars is worth the problems you are quite likely to encounter, or is it worth spending a few dollars more to get something better. Obviously you need to factor in the size of your phone and what any stretchy controller is going to be able to accomodate. The Mocute does well in that regard, and if you have a very big phone then your options are limited. I'd start by working out which controller will accomodate the phone you have and take it from there. Does it have to be a stretchy controller, or would a standard controller and phone clip do?
      My advice is to check out your options, but you should probably avoid this controller. I'm pretty certain you'd regret buying it. At the end of the day a controller that isn't fit for purpose really isn't a bargain, regardless of how cheap it is.
