- Village People is an American disco group well known for their on-stage costumes depicting American masculine cultural stereotypes such as native Indians, cowboys, policemen, and Navy soldiers, as well as their catchy tunes and suggestive lyrics. Originally created by Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo to target disco's gay audience by featuring popular gay fantasy personae, the band quickly became popular and moved into the mainstream.
These recordings were made during Village People's visit to the Dutch premiere of their film Can't Stop The Music in 1980

Sad that this song and the movie version were among the last disco songs that were released in '80 before disco was declared "dead" in the US at the end of 3rd quarter of that year. But despite what some haters claimed, disco will never be dead.

This was one of my mom‘s favorite movies and songs. She passed away at 72 years old October 2, 2022. I was born in 73 so I really didn’t get to experience the disco era except a little bit. I remember on TV. It look like it was so much fun. I still get confused how something so fun could just be shut off and disregarded. Now we have music that talks about killing and drugging people all day, but yet disco and another one of my music loves freestyle music you can’t hear on the radio, it’s like anything good for the soul they have to squash but things that you shouldn’t hear like Cardi B is on the radio all day I don’t even understand it
