In Atlanta, GA around 2005, my friend took me to an upscale restaurant owned by her brother. As we were eating lunch, this song came on the P..A. System. Everyone stopped eating, many stood on their chairs, all started singing and doing the hand movements (including the YMCA) to the music. It was great.

Schön diesen 70er-Hit wieder zu hören und den tollen Auftritt der Village People noch Mal zu sehen. Bringt mich zurück zu der aufregenden Jungmädchenzeit.
Many years ago I worked at a high end restaurant. I met a lot of celebrities then, it was fun and exciting. One of my regular customers had a son who was a promoter. Whenever anyone came to town I wanted to see, I would get passes and would be able to visit back stage and in the green room for their parties. I met the Village People, Divine, Lime, The Weather Girls and many others. That night, I wasn’t expecting to be invited to the party, but the promoter found me in the club, and said “come back and meet the guys”. They were relaxing after the show and meeting fans and others in their dressing room. I had a big crush on David Hodo, the construction worker and was waiting to meet him when all my fantasies were crushed. He took off his mirrored sunglasses, and to my shock, he was wearing mascara and eye shadow! Wasn’t expecting that all, we shook hands and I was disappointed to put it mildly. I next met the motorcycle/leather guy. A friend asked if I met him, to get his autograph. He was very polite, shook my hand, signed the autograph, then grabbed my neck, pulled me into him, and stuck his tongue down my throat! Once again I was shocked, especially when I realized that the huge mustache he was sporting was soaking wet, and didn’t smell too nice! I stayed for a few drinks chatting with the others and then went home............. alone, LOL.
The Chicago YMCA just set up temporary housing for the homeless and those in shelters. So this song was in my head. The lyrics are still appropriate for these days.
I was a little youngster when this group came out. I had my first crush on the construction guy, Indian, and the biker dude. They all were outstanding performers. Even to this day, I still love them! Love y'all!
