- Finally I have got my next tutorial done! I wanted to make everyone aware of how significant texture lag is as I dont think many people realise it's impact when it comes to lag plus I give my top tips on how to reduce lag in second life. Your tutorials are easy to understand: You are concise, organized in your presentation with logical step by step processes to get to the final goal. The biggest thing is when creators keep mesh for a static object like a picture frame below 500 triangles for Highest res Visual and under 20 tris and much less for a static object physics, also if creators were to sell two versions with the item, a Highphys for all siding, and a Static phys like a single triangle bottom for a sitting object that is never going to move like a picture frame or scenery that does not need to interact with the environment via ricochet of an object.
Even though you set the item to phantom, your machine still has to load the vertices of the phys shape.

Thank you this helped so much with house/apartment hunting cuz everything rezs 100 times faster than before. Before I had to sit in 5 to minutes for all gray objects waiting for them to rez.

I use to be in SL all the time some 10 years ago and left around 2012. Trying to get back to it now, unfortunately the main SL viewer don't work for me. Can someone advice me what's the lighter 3rd party viewer can be used these days? My laptop has just 4g ram, not on ssd, decent nvidia graphic card
You could try singularity apart from that the official sl viewer is about the lightest

Thank You Rosie... Learning much... I don't know if Chat Lag is the same as LAG Lag, but I am searching for solutions to my hesitating Typing to Text Windows. Going to try these suggestions for better all around performance at least.

I really needed to see this! I couldn't understand why I started to lag really bad on my Houseboat parcel and now I get it. I had but wrapped my Houseboat in texture and had a lot of scripts running with all the furniture and decor I rezzed out. Lesson Learned! Now I need to learn how to remove unwanted scripts.
Glad it helped :) To remove scripts, right click object and choose edit, then choose contents in the box that pops up. In the contents right click the scripts and choose delete. Sometimes that doesn't work and even though it doesnt show in the contents the script still runs, in that case you need a script scrubber which I think you can find on marketplace

I rarely suffer from lag unless using extreme settings among a lot of avatars and the SIM has an issue. What are the specs of the machine you are using...laptop? I use an old powerful back in the day Desktop which makes a huge difference. Ten year old hardware but easily runs SL. Also I am a lot closer to the SL servers than you are and if you are in the UK I imagine that is a big difference as well. Shadows I never run unless I'm recording something. Reducing the resolution of your viewer window also makes a huge difference (720P for example rather than 1080P or higher). If I am in a high populated area I will use the search function in the radar to select other avatars to derender. I like the Tip to check vRam usage. I know someone who had a Titan video card with 12 gb of vRam and they never had any issues compared to my 3 gb card. I'm guessing the newer 8gb cards are much better assuming you want to pay the $$$. Particles can be a big issue so I generally run that lower than default or derender the emitters.Try disabling Transparent Water especially if you can't see it. It used to give a few fps a couple years ago. Another issue I found was when shadows are enabled some Windlight Settings are tougher to run than others due to how many objects the sun and shadows are interacting with etc. What software were you using to record the video?

@@rosiehelendalesecondlifevlog It must be classified information? I got an email saying a 1050 and now it says 1060? With a 1060 I would have thought your performance would have been higher since your hardware is comparable to mine X5650 Xeon and a GTX 780. I'm in North America so I'm guessing I have a much shorter connection to the SL servers than you do in the UK and faster? In my many tests my viewer runs on 6 threads however one thread does the bulk of the work and can bottleneck the graphic card it seems although I do know that a 1070 will outperform my 780 when shadows are enabled. that being said your SIM location and design can make a huge difference. I upgraded to a Ryzen 3600 cpu which in theory based on Cinebench tests is 50% faster so I'm thinking that will increase performance possibly the same amount especially in difficult situations. Haven't got it running yet however.

Wow really helpful video! everyday we can learn new things on SL. internet connection play a big role with sl too. Now i have multiple pcs and i may add that 8gb of ram or more it is a good start. Same as with the graphics card 2gb or more. another thing to consider is that on a long run, a desktop pc would last for many years with the ability to be upgraded. Ty for the video.

not being funny here but wow, red dead redemption dont have lag problems so why does second life ?
Does red dead have user created unoptimised content?
I dont think many people have a GPU with not enough memory for this... Application. The sad truth is that there is something wrong with the game engine. Or because its all player created content/textures. Idk what. What I do know is that my i9-10920X CPU is 100% leaded on its one of the 24 threads and zero to the rest 23. The load of that one core drops by disabling hardware skinning or advanced lighting, which makes the game look even worse. GPU has 8gb of VRAM if someone cares and DRAM 32gb. So what Im saying is that hardware update should not be considered with hopes to improve performance of this game. Oh and Im on fiber too.
Modern online FPS games with custom built war machines, 10x better graphics and 16-20 players per match run 100fps, while SL gives 10fps with much less produced on the screen.
This tutorial shows what you can do to make the 'game ' run smoother if you experience any lag

i have a high end pc and i get annoyed when people and managers of places tell me to turn off all my particles and stuff cause other people can't handle it!!
Well i do get it but same time people with low end pc should just derender who making them lagg and issue solved i don't get why as someone with high end pc i need to (bring it down)
that's one of the biggest things that annoys me in this game... like let's be real if u have a low end pc you shouldn't be going to busy crowded places or high lag places on SL in first place

Switch to Singularity or Alchemy Viewer for people getting lag new updates for them only a month or so ago after yearrrrrrs so it's really good, I recorded a clip to show my friend so i'll upload it quick so you can see how smooth it is running Ultra.
Firestorm is a laggy mess for me, I turn my camera and the lag storm hits, it shouldn't because my PC is a monster and SL used to run great, I don't know if it's just my Firestorm but the only thing I like about Firestorm is the UI. Anyway have a look, it's sooooooooo smooth.

looks like a great alternative if your lag drives you insane but I think the graphics are more detailed on firestorm hence more lag. It's always going to be a trade off. Plus no matter how good your pc or the viewer theres your connection and the server and the sim you are in that can get you! but we shall not be defeated ! lol Thanks for watching and your comments :)
