  • The Italian Digital Nomad Visa offers a pathway for highly skilled, remote workers from non-EU countries to start living and working in Italy. This opportunity not only facilitates life in Italy through a renewable residency permit but also potentially leads to permanent residency and Italian citizenship. Applicants need to demonstrate a minimum income and secure accommodation before applying. This visa ensures integration into the Italian tax system and provides a legal framework for digital nomads and their families to enjoy working and living in Italy while exploring a long-term future as expats in Italy. In this episode of the Italian Citizenship Podcast hosted by Italian Attorney Marco Permunian and dual citizen expat podcaster Rafael Di Furia, we'll learn more about the newly released Italian Digital Nomad Visa as well as the application requirements, tax obligations, and the potential paths to residency and citizenship for applicants.

Thank you guys so much for the update!!! Would it be possible to create another video that walks through the steps in order and maybe even a bit more detail? I think it was stated that an applicant would need to have lodging already in place before applying for a visa and that would mean first obtaining a codice fiscale I think. So it seems like the order would be to get the codice fiscale -> find rental/ buy a property -> submit visa application -> get residency permit after approval and relocation. It would be also great if Marco’s firm is going to set up a services package specifically for digital nomads

Buongiorno! Yes, the VISA is "finalized" but not yet fully operational at the Consular level. Please be patient as the bureaucracy works through this. Grazie!

Many thanks for this helpful video!
What paperwork do I need to proove that my job is remote? Just a signed statement from me, or also one from my employer? If I change jobs from one remote job to another, do I need proof from both?

Great video! But I am confused by the requirement to already have accommodation. How can you rent an apartment before you have permission to live in Italy?

Assuming you meet all the requirements, how long would it take to get the visa?

Can you please let me know where to get the Digital Nomad application? I have a profile setup with the Italian Consulate in Miami and I contacted them directly. They don't have any information about the Digital Nomad VISA. I own a property in Italy that I purchased with the assistance of Marco Permunian's team in 2021 and I have tickets booked for Italy at the end ot May. How long will this process take and can we complete it before we leave for Italy next month?

Really enjoy your content. We traveled to Italy in 2019 and fell in love with the country. We are considering spending a month in southern Italy next year to see if it is a viable option to move to permanently. Is there a region or town you could suggest for something like this?

The part that confuses me is if you have to apply in your home country how do you secure accommodation? It would seem you have to travel to Italy, secure accommodation without your visa which will be difficult, return home to apply, then return again?

Thank you! If I receive part of the required 28K from my social security income and part of it from an employer, would I be able to qualify for the digital nomad visa?

Thank you, everyone. As a Digital Nomad who primarily resides in Europe and Asia, and also owns a home in Sicily, I'm wondering why I need to travel all the way back to Australia, where I haven't lived for years, to apply for this visa. The cost of airfare and hotels, plus the time away from Europe, is substantial. Is it not possible for me to apply for the visa from abroad, given that I am living outside my home country?

I’m bit confused about the minimum income requirement, you have mentioned it is €24789/year, but I did find some articles where they mentioned it is €2800.
    Which one is correct?

Hello I would like to ask: so you need to have an accommodation in Italy PRIOR to the Visa application? What if I sign a rent agreement and DO NOT get the Visa? How would this work?

I'm happy this is an option now for people like me, I can get citizenship by descent but at the same time no. My Italian ancestor didn't recognize his kid so there's no "proof" but DNA doesn't lie... I'm glad that people in the same position now can have this option for getting citizenship.

hello there, this is great news. I am a UK freelancer, been consulting for over 6 months with an Italian business and also have some passive income through rentals in the UK. I have no formal certification or degree in this area. What can I do to bolster my application? I'm concerned this no formal training bit is going to be a block for me. I own my own property in Ital, no criminal record y and can arrange the insurance easily enough...Any thoughts?
