Just like to say that I have had great service from Hubsan drones from tech questions to ordering supplies (thank you Shalley Liu and Anne). A very good company, in fact I own 4 of there models: the H501S, the H701C+ and the H701D+, and the H502S. Love them all, no problems out of any. Thanks for posting this video, the quadcopter I received is clearly not functioning right, runs right into walls after take-off testing it in my garage and nearly flew onto a neighbors' driveway launching it from mine. Waiting on Gearbest to get it together and take it back or refund me the purchase. Your coupon code still works so I plan to use it when I get my money back. To answer your question, they only seem to sell the battery directly from Hubsan's website and I asked how long it would take for them to come back with no answer yet. I would recommend finding a Hubsan HT011A Transmitter on Ebay before buying the repeater. I got a new one with the battery for 20 bucks and it will give you 600-700 meters range.

You should check the range without the repeater and see how much difference the repeater actually makes. Fun video ! Love the long range tests especially the RTH accuracy.
sptrader that's what I'm thinking too. Actually range extender should be placed at the end of the range where it can be rebroadcast again. Placing out nearby likely won't so much as I doubt it is much stronger than the phone.
A repeater is really much stronger than a phone. On a Parrot Bebop, around 100m with the phone (in 2.4 band) and tested around 600 m with the Xiaomi Mi repeater which means 36x the power aiming to the drone (distance is in square root of the power)

No, it can not. This drone is kind of an oddball in that it can be controlled via digital WiFi signal only. The H901A controller does not have that capability. But Hubsan's HT011A controller does have such capability ua-cam.com/video/VUE7ur36qp4/v-deo.html Unfortunately you may have difficulty finding the HT011A transmitter as it seems to have been discontinued by Hubsan.
Quadcopter 101 thanks for the review. Subscribed. I've watched both your reviews on this one and the H502E which you seem to love. I really like this one here too. The only problem I have is in the controller not being a controller like the 502E is. If I am not mistaken, this H516 connects to BT on a phone as a BT controller, but the actual control is from the phone. Is that what creates the range limits on this compared to the H502E? I have the 501S based on your review as well. Love it. Looking for something a little less that that for a simple fun GPS flyer. Thanks for the great reviews.
They do it that way with the Bluetooth controller to keep costs down and still bring you a good product. No 2.4gHz module in quad or controller. You do get loss of range which isn't a big deal to me in a brushed copter.

My H216a just up and flew away the otherday. It was 2m off the ground about 20m out (middle of a ball diamond). It disconnected from the controller and the app froze up ... Funny... Hubsan just updated their app the other day.! Anyway the bird then suddenly rose to about 10m and flew left... over the fence and just kept going at full speed... about 200m away was a dense bush/forest/swamp/creek/pond. I saw it go over one tree... then lost sight and hears what I thought was it hitting another. But 2 hours of searching (worse than the brush of Vancouver Island)... nothing. Worst part was... I lost the new SD card I just put in. My question... I still have the 7.6v battery (I was using the H502e 7.4v)... can I use the 7.6v in the H502e?

I purchased a H216A and also had problems connecting via Bluetooth to my phone (Sony Compact Z3), but I did manage to connect first time to my old phone (Sony Xperia M2). I would recommend trying another phone via Bluetooth. Len
Question: I see you are one busy guy and I really appreciate your revies your my go-to for quad info: I am interested in the Goggles and what to know what you suggest would work well with this model or a pair that can be used with most Hubsan and other FPV drones as well, I don't want to have buyers remorse. I am addicted already and spending too much on toy drones and need to just love one or 2 and go from there? Where is the best place for Hubsan parts, I am thinking if the body of this 216A is the same as the H502 would it work as a replacement as well as the propellers? For goggles, you would need ones that allow you to insert your smartphone so that you could view its screen. There are many VR glasses that do such, but they split the screen to allow 3D viewing. You want one that does not have this splitter. They exist, such as Tactic FPV-G! goggles (Google it). As for parts, this drone is essentially a H502, but with a different flight control board (that is integrated with WiFi) and WiFi camera. Thus all of the flight components propellers, motors, body, even batteries etc... are interchangeable with the H502. Most vendors sell H502 parts (just search their sites). Even eBay and Amazon amzn.to/2CQ85DJ But I don't recommend purchasing until you need them.

The "Mi Home" WiFi repeater app asks where you are located. Depending what you select will determine which devices will be configurable in its menu. You need to select China to have the repeater show up in the app, as the repeater is not meant for use in the USA (although it works in the USA).
I'd like to have known how well does it do without the repeater. Interesting but I'm not sure I would have any use for a drone that you dare not land in the dirt.
Hope you can help. I can not get the controller connected to the phone. I see the bluetooth signal and try to connect but it just always fails. Do you have to be in the middle of nowhere for this to work?
To connect, first turn on bluetooth of your phone. But do NOT connect from the phone's bluetooth menu. I am Vince brizio from Netherlands . Nice drone , but There is one thing that I can not do with my Hubsan H216A and it is using my VR headset because the option does not appear to me, I have seen that many people has it , but I have only F, Waypoint mode, Following mode and Orbit mode ( i mis VR mode) .I downloaded the App with playStore many times !! I've tried everything and I hoop is not my "One plus 5" phone that's pretty good ( i think!). Do you know something about it ? Tanks
Looks like my 507A that I modified to use the 502s. Battery. I also purchased the blue tooth control for my 507A So I see no improvement. Except the better camera. The 507 had a bad battery and charge

Its a decent little quadcopter. Mine had some sand get in one of the motors and I am awaiting a replacement part or two ( X4 Desire H502e). Hi, have you noticed an increase in the wifi latency, even the image freezes, when the bluetooth controller is paired with the application? I have that weird behaviour, seems the Hubsan app needs more work.
Yes, but that is to be expected. Bluetooth operates on the same 2.4Ghz as the WiFi. Thus when both are operating, expect interference. Updating the app will not fix this.
Oh I see so a wifi repeater could help to avoid the bluetooth controller interfere the wifi signal? But I think in that case the bluetooth controller would disconnect frequently.
I just brought the same WiFi repeater but I can't get it to work, it just keeps flashing orange and doesn't turn blue. Have no problems with the quad and my phone. Any ideas?

wayne Pursell The Awesome B 2w doesn't need the phone to fly it and ours reaches over 999 meters no problem. It may help the fpv though. I'm not sure, our fpv goes out 500 meters + no problem. You have me wondering now.

Make sure that you are outisde, away from buildings in an open area or field. Trees, buildings, or anything obstructing a clear view of the sky will affect GPS.
Thanks. I have tried in an open field as well but did not really work. But now I have an another problem. Drone Camera has just stopped working. No accident, no crash and it has just stopped working. I have emailed Hubsan but so far no help. Any idea how can I factory reset?

Yes, do not try to connect Bluetooth via your phone's Bluetooth settings menu. Instead just turn on Bluetooth on your phone and also turn on the controller, then open the X-Hubsan app. In the app, select Hubsan H216A and open. Click on the gear settings icon in the upper right corner. Click on Controller icon. Slide scroll the menu up until you see "Using remote control" option and click on it. The HT009 controller should be shown in list of available Bluetooth devices. Click on it and select Connect.

I think I like my hubsan 502E and S models. Better ,that one is to depended on a. Phone ,the 502,s don't have that problems ,and the 502 have 12 min flight time,they make landing gear s for that model and the 502 models for 3.88
Yes you can, but I'm not sure the other way around (i.e. using H216 battery in H502). The H216 battery nominal voltage is 7.6V. The H502 battery is 7.4V. I've used the 7.4V battery several times more in my H216 since this video. There's no problem with using it with the H216, other than you get slightly shorter flight time with the H502 battery (it's smaller capacity at 610 mah).

Hello Q101, Did you mesure the upper voltage of the H216 battery ? because for the low voltage it's of course OK (3.8V per cell versus 3.7V per cell, I guess the problem could be the upper voltage specifications of the voltage regulator on the flight control board and video board of the H502 series. By the way the H216 battery seems thicker on photos, could it be slipped inside the H502e/s without problems ?
By the way I didn't realized that Shally Liu from Hubsan just said: "Yes they just share the same kinds of battery ,so you can mix use them" which is a good news.

Looks like Hubsan is feeling a little competition. This one isn't bad, except it's not a good sign if the app is unreliable at this point. Decent battery upgrade from previous versions, but the video from the "so-called" 1080P camera was pretty poor. All you have to do is compare the 1080P video from your Hat-Cam to the Hubsan's 1080P video, and you'll see the difference. Probably low bit rate and/or frame rate. Not a fan of having to use a wi-fi booster ... just more stuff to have to tote along with you .. booster, power bank, camera tripod, etc. Less than a "C-note", so it won't break the bank. Hubsan is usually pretty good about fixing "glitches", so we'll see if they issue any patches for this, and/or update the app. I saw you wearing a Jacket? What, was it 60 deg? It's about 25F here right now, and looking at the long range forecast for 10 days, I don't see anything coming up over 23F, with lows down to 10F. On top of that, just got in from using snow blower to get rid of 6 inches of "global warming" out of my drive. Thanks for the review .. always good to see what's out there that's new. Cheers.
Hmm .. so far, all scientific 'models' have been WAY off. I've been living in NE Ohio for all my life, and Winters are still damn cold. Western Europe is having cold spells and snow (AndyRC just did a video where he had to fly in snow with -5C temps .. and he's in the UK). I suppose if you are in the Southern hemisphere or along the equator, you might be nice and warm right now. This planet has been going thru "climate change" for a few BILLION years, and I don't see it stopping. Temps go UP .. and they go DOWN .. its the way it is. When I can go out in short sleeves and cargo shorts from Dec. thru March, I'll put some credit in 'global warming'. You are, of course, free to believe any version of 'climate change' you wish. I go by how much snow I have to shovel each Winter, and watch as Lake Erie covers over with ice. Perhaps Niagra Falls will freeze solid again this year. We'll see. Happy Christmas!

Yes theoretically if I place the repeater a distance down the desired direction of travel, that distance should equate to an additional increase in range. This added distance would be limited by the range that the phone could still be able to communicate with the repeater.
It does have a VR mode and splits the screen. However, you'll need to fly it using the 'transmitter' via bluetooth otherwise you wont be able to control it if your phone is on your head as VR goggles.

I got around to getting one of these repeaters (Thanks for the instructions). Only issue I have is the 1/2 second delay in the video feed.
Does the repeater increase the delay and have you tried the "RELAY" function in the app?

My H216a just up and flew away the otherday. It was 2m off the ground about 20m out (middle of a ball diamond). It disconnected from the controller and the app froze up ... Funny... Hubsan just updated their app the other day.! Anyway the bird then suddenly rose to about 10m and flew left... over the fence and just kept going at full speed... about 200m away was a dense bush/forest/swamp/creek/pond. I saw it go over one tree... then lost sight and hears what I thought was it hitting another. But 2 hours of searching (worse than the brush of Vancouver Island)... nothing. Worst part was... I lost the new SD card I just put in. My question... I still have the 7.6v battery (I was using the H502e 7.4v)... can I use the 7.6v in the H502e?

For goggles, you would need ones that allow you to insert your smartphone so that you could view its screen. There are many VR glasses that do such, but they split the screen to allow 3D viewing. You want one that does not have this splitter. They exist, such as Tactic FPV-G! goggles (Google it). As for parts, this drone is essentially a H502, but with a different flight control board (that is integrated with WiFi) and WiFi camera. Thus all of the flight components propellers, motors, body, even batteries etc... are interchangeable with the H502. Most vendors sell H502 parts (just search their sites). Even eBay and Amazon amzn.to/2CQ85DJ But I don't recommend purchasing until you need them.

The "Mi Home" WiFi repeater app asks where you are located. Depending what you select will determine which devices will be configurable in its menu. You need to select China to have the repeater show up in the app, as the repeater is not meant for use in the USA (although it works in the USA).

Hope you can help. I can not get the controller connected to the phone. I see the bluetooth signal and try to connect but it just always fails. Do you have to be in the middle of nowhere for this to work?
To connect, first turn on bluetooth of your phone. But do NOT connect from the phone's bluetooth menu. The app has a "RELAY" selection for use with repeaters...you should see if it works with that any better...

Nice drone , but There is one thing that I can not do with my Hubsan H216A and it is using my VR headset because the option does not appear to me, I have seen that many people has it , but I have only F, Waypoint mode, Following mode and Orbit mode ( i mis VR mode) .I downloaded the App with playStore many times !! I've tried everything and I hoop is not my "One plus 5" phone that's pretty good ( i think!). Do you know something about it ? Tanks

So I see no improvement. Except the better camera. The 507 had a bad battery and charge

Its a decent little quadcopter. Mine had some sand get in one of the motors and I am awaiting a replacement part or two ( X4 Desire H502e). Hi, have you noticed an increase in the wifi latency, even the image freezes, when the bluetooth controller is paired with the application? I have that weird behaviour, seems the Hubsan app needs more work.
Yes, but that is to be expected. Bluetooth operates on the same 2.4Ghz as the WiFi. Thus when both are operating, expect interference. Updating the app will not fix this.
Oh I see so a wifi repeater could help to avoid the bluetooth controller interfere the wifi signal? But I think in that case the bluetooth controller would disconnect frequently.
I just brought the same WiFi repeater but I can't get it to work, it just keeps flashing orange and doesn't turn blue.

wayne Pursell The Awesome B 2w doesn't need the phone to fly it and ours reaches over 999 meters no problem. It may help the fpv though. I'm not sure, our fpv goes out 500 meters + no problem. You have me wondering now.

Make sure that you are outisde, away from buildings in an open area or field. Trees, buildings, or anything obstructing a clear view of the sky will affect GPS.

It should be about 80 to 100 meters with just the phone.
With the controller/phone in no interference you can get a max of around 200meters
One last question and I will leave you alone. Is this Hubsan H216A X4 Desire GPS FPV Explorer Drone so new that there are not a lot of users yet and info or and spare parts or is this really new?

Yes, do not try to connect Bluetooth via your phone's Bluetooth settings menu. Instead just turn on Bluetooth on your phone and also turn on the controller, then open the X-Hubsan app.
In the app, select Hubsan H216A and open. Click on the gear settings icon in the upper right corner.
Click on Controller icon.
Slide scroll the menu up until you see "Using remote control" option and click on it.
The HT009 controller should be shown in list of available Bluetooth devices. Click on it and select Connect.

I think I like my hubsan 502E and S models. Better ,that one is to depended on a. Phone ,the 502,s don't have that problems ,and the 502 have 12 min flight time,they make landing gear s for that model and the 502 models for 3.88

Yes you can, but I'm not sure the other way around (i.e. using H216 battery in H502). The H216 battery nominal voltage is 7.6V. The H502 battery is 7.4V. I've used the 7.4V battery several times more in my H216 since this video. There's no problem with using it with the H216, other than you get slightly shorter flight time with the H502 battery (it's smaller capacity at 610 mah).

Did you mesure the upper voltage of the H216 battery ? because for the low voltage it's of course OK (3.8V per cell versus 3.7V per cell, I guess the problem could be the upper voltage specifications of the voltage regulator on the flight control board and video board of the H502 series.
By the way the H216 battery seems thicker on photos, could it be slipped inside the H502e/s without problems ?

Looks like Hubsan is feeling a little competition. This one isn't bad, except it's not a good sign if the app is unreliable at this point. Decent battery upgrade from previous versions, but the video from the "so-called" 1080P camera was pretty poor. All you have to do is compare the 1080P video from your Hat-Cam to the Hubsan's 1080P video, and you'll see the difference. Probably low bit rate and/or frame rate. Not a fan of having to use a wi-fi booster ... just more stuff to have to tote along with you .. booster, power bank, camera tripod, etc. Less than a "C-note", so it won't break the bank. Hubsan is usually pretty good about fixing "glitches", so we'll see if they issue any patches for this, and/or update the app. I saw you wearing a Jacket? What, was it 60 deg? It's about 25F here right now, and looking at the long range forecast for 10 days, I don't see anything coming up over 23F, with lows down to 10F. On top of that, just got in from using snow blower to get rid of 6 inches of "global warming" out of my drive. Thanks for the review .. always good to see what's out there that's new. Cheers.

Hmm .. so far, all scientific 'models' have been WAY off. I've been living in NE Ohio for all my life, and Winters are still damn cold. Western Europe is having cold spells and snow (AndyRC just did a video where he had to fly in snow with -5C temps .. and he's in the UK). I suppose if you are in the Southern hemisphere or along the equator, you might be nice and warm right now. This planet has been going thru "climate change" for a few BILLION years, and I don't see it stopping. Temps go UP .. and they go DOWN .. its the way it is. When I can go out in short sleeves and cargo shorts from Dec. thru March, I'll put some credit in 'global warming'. You are, of course, free to believe any version of 'climate change' you wish. I go by how much snow I have to shovel each Winter, and watch as Lake Erie covers over with ice. Perhaps Niagra Falls will freeze solid again this year. We'll see. Happy Christmas!

Yes theoretically if I place the repeater a distance down the desired direction of travel, that distance should equate to an additional increase in range. This added distance would be limited by the range that the phone could still be able to communicate with the repeater.

No, the app is not really meant to be viewed through goggles. It's intended for controlling the drone, thus you'll need access to touching the screen.
It does have a VR mode and splits the screen. However, you'll need to fly it using the 'transmitter' via bluetooth otherwise you wont be able to control it if your phone is on your head as VR goggles.
