Hey! Great job 👍 Everything about this model is about keeping costs down and to hopefully take owners to the H501A so it’s simply a stepping stone as the closest thing to the 501A. The compass however is a new thing and once dialed in with future firmware it should not ask you to calibrate unless crashed, hard landings or new locations. Im not sure about the motors though because mine was a prototype and has the same ones that the other 501 models have.
Sure would be a great educational bird for schools, scouts, or folks with teens or younger nowadays considering how tech savy most are. Do appreciate the app by Hubsan and the brushless motors. The VR mode is also pretty cool on these also. Looks like a nice day and always enjoy seeing you out enjoying reviewing and flying. Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho :)
Great review, I've just bought one of these and I am very impressed. I've just ordered one of those Mi WiFi repeaters as you suggested to try and improve the range a bit.
Hello, very nice work with that. Does it returns automatically when the battery is low?? I mean like visuo xs812. I am between these two. What would you suggest me?
Very awesome and honest review. I'm really enjoying your Drone video reviews. I do have some questions for you if you don't mind give better judgements. Do you think the H501A X4 Air Pro is the better drone compare to these H501M, or H216A, or H507A? From watching all the reviews from UA-cam, I noticed that the WIFI and Bluetooth connection keeps losing connection and end up that the drone is flying away. What is your recommend for the FVP drone in Hubsan's brand? Or shall I go with the MJX bug 8 Pro? Thanks Quadcopter101.
Why is Hubsan going backwards? They had the H501 series and they're really good flying quadcopters. DJI released the Spark -- to which Hubsan could compete with by putting a 2 or 3 axis mini gimbal. Add in a few smart shots and there you go.
Great review as usual man. Among all the middle level of the hubsan quadcopter which one di you recommend. In my opinion hubsan 502s, 216A, 501M seems pretty similar, but based on your experience, and considering that prices are similar, which do you recommend? Let us know
I have a few 501a. I also have a few 501s controllers. Can I fly 501A with the 501S controller. Can I fly the 501A with the Blue tooth H216 controller? .

They also wanna start thinking about adding a 2.4GHz module to the drone as standard as wifi range and control could be questionable at best depending on quality of wifi signal from your mobile device. My iPhone 5s almost gave me a flyaway just one day into owning this thing!
Great shirt. Who picked that, you or your lovely wife? Thanks for posting. I'm wondering if my H501A will also work with this hand controller. I like the X-Hubsan app, but virtual sticks give me no precision in flight and will often lag if there's WiFi interference (I don't have a desert handy)
Nose toward home when signal is lost is a revelation, nice feature. I didn't notice before but think my H501A does the same. I'm going to check that out. Thanks again
That's an interesting question. Will have to try it out with a future flight of my H501A. But on a side note, I have recently been testing a new controller for the H501A, the HT011A. I'm not allowed to share the videos of its testing yet. But it has a built-in WiFi repeater/amplifier that gives the H501A amazing control and FPV video range. I think that you might want to wait for the HT011A controller to be released.
I just lost my bugs 2w because I forgot to latch the battery compartment not used to doing that however the battery fell out and now I lost the drone and my memory card now I am looking to get another new drone and would really like to know your opinion on would you rather get the top of the line Hudson or. There's a new HT011A controller about to be released for the H501A which gives it close to 1KM range. The combination of the controller with the H501A makes for a very potent combination.
I don't know why Hubsan is doing this Bluetooth controller to Wi-Fi relay. It is not very good and adds more latency. This is the same setup as the H216A Desire Pro. I lost bluetooth twice while testing it and then at that point you're stuck using your phone unless you can get the Bluetooth to reconnect.

You will still need a smartphone or tablet with WiFi capability to use this drone. Connect your phone to your home WiFi to download and install the app. Open the app at home while connected to your home WiFi. If you open the app's map view while connected to home WiFi, scroll over the areas that you plan to fly in the near future. The app will save these maps in your phone's memory, and will automatically load them when you go to your planned flying area without use or need of a data connection.

Not sure if this might be the problem, but the card must be smaller than 32GB. To keep costs low, toy drone makers tend to use surplus smartphone parts and cameras from a few years ago. The card readers tend to be out of date, and not able to recognize newer high capacity cards.

Yes, as long as it has WiFi, it should work. But keep in mind that a tablet or ipad will not likely fit in the phone holder on the controller. You'd need to prop them up on a tripod or something similar.

Then click on "Aircraft" tab (make sure that you're connected to the aircraft via WiFi). Nice review QC101, as always. Underwhelmed by the H501M, with 720p camera and $130 price point. You can pick up an H501SS (on offer) at $125-$130. I like the waypoint features, but will have to pass on this Hubsan offering.
Hi, I was wondering can anyone help me with this. The bluetooth controller doesnt connect to my my sony xperia xa1 ultra. I have tried to connect it several times, with out success.
It's not connected through the phone settings. You merely use the phone settings to turn on the phone's bluetooth. Instead the connection is done and setup through the XHubsan settings. Hope the following helps ua-cam.com/video/kTBkXk7hdiI/v-deo.html
Just want to make sure that you understand. Do not try to connect the Bluetooth from your phone's Bluetooth settings page. It's done entirely from the app. All you need to do is just make sure that your phone's Bluetooth is turned on. Recommend following all the startup steps in the exact same sequence as shown in the video, starting at 5:09. If that still doesn't work, then recommend trying a different phone.
Good review. Successfully showed a lot of the options that seem to generally work. My kid got one and flight results are similar to what you showed. We also flew it out to 300+ Meters in our neighborhood park, which was a big surprise. BTW, interesting part not mentioned was the new GPS module (watch ua-cam.com/video/DQTVmTXMMx0/v-deo.html at around 10:20min). New Compass in 501M apparently doesn't require re-calibration every flight? So whats our findings on the 501M so far? It's been an affordable, fun, intro drone with a lot of features to play with for a very low price point (picked up ours at $119) Brushless.. 20min flight...GPS... lots of flight options. I know many hate cell wifi idea, but honestly, my kid likes only needing his phone to fly the drone. Less stuff to carry around he says. Picture quality is ok for texting to friends, etc, but nothing to write home about. Also it struggles in wind to keep its gps point, but I suspect this is same for most small drones. We did considered the older H501S at similar price point - but my kid decided the extra flight options were more fun than worrying about 720 vs 1080 or extra flight range. After all, how often do you fly a toy grade drone more than 100m away? and any hard mounted camera is going to be wobbly quality anyway, even at 1080. If you are really looking for good solid video, you really require a gimble drone which will run you $500-$1000+ So far we have been happy enough with this purchase at $119. I've seen a couple users post that there are better drones, but so far all mentioned (like Yuneec Breeze) appear to be next price level ($50-100 more - with is like 50% to 100% more in comparison?) If suggestions of better option at ~$100 (brushless, 20min flights, GPS, 1080p camera w gimble/stabilization, flight features like follow-me, orbit, waypoints) it would be interesting to know your suggestions...
You can just buy a yuneec breeze samething but it’s 4K and 1080p stabilized. Hubsan needs to stop playing around with these h5XX series and make a competitive gimbal version to compete with the spark or the mavic
Quadcopter 101 I’ve had the breeze and a h501s both have their advantages but most people want a drone for photography and those hubsans disappoint. Now a WiFi hubsan verse a WiFi breeze that’s a no brainer there both not going to give you distance so why go with the one with better camera.
Afiq Raikal if you like to fly high distance and mostly u fly in a small area with lots of obstacle choose mjx b2w... But if you like to fly in an open area with lots of features to enjoy choose this quad.
A simple all-in-one vtx in-camera 25 to 200mw would take care of the bad Bluetooth modules , you can buy them for around 20 dollars. Don't understand why there still using it . Cheap pair of goggles and wallah
For the price it is FAR more capable than I thought it would be. I still have doubts about the controller systems but even they aren't a limited as I expected. The mission planner is clearly the star mode for this and with the motors lifts it away from the lesser brushed models. Could be worth buying as an introductory/intermediate GPS flier as the camera isn't bad for the resolution. Good review though watching the first range tests it seemed to try to start an auto RTH but was over-ruled by control inputs n signal return. (I could be wrong on that even after watching that section 3 times)
I like your reviews . Always have . But , I think I'll pass on this quad . Too much time spent playing with the app than just flying the quad and using the functions . Too much going on . More time spent looking at screen than enjoying watching the quad fly ..
China should accept that not all people tolerate / enjoy 'select...think...sub select...think ...wrong..reverse up a level...think..go sideways...slide down next selection options....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' style of operating a toy! - A good designer SIMPLIFIES user control not deliberately make it into a NASA research project..
am i the only one who thinks this design utterly absurd????!!! - Its a toy - i expect just to press a button and go! - How hard can it be? - This couldnt be more complex if you deliberately set out to make it so - i have waited months for...this??!
What a gentle take off, after watching many videos of racing drones that is an elegant move.

It's not connected through the phone settings. You merely use the phone settings to turn on the phone's bluetooth. Instead the connection is done and setup through the XHubsan settings. Hope the following helps ua-cam.com/video/kTBkXk7hdiI/v-deo.html
This Drone wifi is 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
Currently Hubsan drones use 2.4Ghz only.
OK Thank you.
Hi ,my phone won't pair to my controller via Bluetooth for some reason,Any ideas 🙂
Are you doing the connection steps as shown starting at 6:15 into the video?
@@Quadcopter101 Thank you I will give it another go.
Hmmm I've tried many times phone won't connect to the controller via Bluetooth.
Say could not connect incorrect passkey.
If you are really looking for good solid video, you really require a gimble drone which will run you $500-$1000+
So far we have been happy enough with this purchase at $119. I've seen a couple users post that there are better drones, but so far all mentioned (like Yuneec Breeze) appear to be next price level ($50-100 more - with is like 50% to 100% more in comparison?) If suggestions of better option at ~$100 (brushless, 20min flights, GPS, 1080p camera w gimble/stabilization, flight features like follow-me, orbit, waypoints) it would be interesting to know your suggestions...
nice one
is it possible to do waypoints with 501s Pro
Unfortunately no.
Is it better than the h216a?
Yes, as it has brushless motors. However, its camera is not as good.
Think Hubsan made a backward step with this one
You can just buy a yuneec breeze samething but it’s 4K and 1080p stabilized. Hubsan needs to stop playing around with these h5XX series and make a competitive gimbal version to compete with the spark or the mavic
Just because it's a Yuneec doesn't necessarily mean that it's a good drone amzn.to/2G8ydal
And Spark and Mavic are nowhere near this drone's $130 price level (i.e. not everyone can afford a Spark or Mavic).
Quadcopter 101 I’ve had the breeze and a h501s both have their advantages but most people want a drone for photography and those hubsans disappoint. Now a WiFi hubsan verse a WiFi breeze that’s a no brainer there both not going to give you distance so why go with the one with better camera.
h501m or b2w??...please help me
Afiq Raikal if you like to fly high distance and mostly u fly in a small area with lots of obstacle choose mjx b2w... But if you like to fly in an open area with lots of features to enjoy choose this quad.
I like video
A simple all-in-one vtx in-camera 25 to 200mw would take care of the bad Bluetooth modules , you can buy them for around 20 dollars. Don't understand why there still using it . Cheap pair of goggles and wallah
Indeed👍
How high footage it can fly?
As high as you're legally allowed to fly in your country.
So.. The big brother of the H216A
but 216 has 1080
For the price looks O.K. what you get for that price.
13:37 onward btw
Fashion photos!
I like dron
I like your reviews . Always have . But , I think I'll pass on this quad . Too much time spent playing with the app than just flying the quad and using the functions . Too much going on . More time spent looking at screen than enjoying watching the quad fly ..
utterly totally... simply crazy!
It seems like this one is a down grade
It's a cheaper alternative to the H501A.
No shit Sherlock
Hi
i have the same
Hubsan once lead this market segment. Now they have fallen behind due to lazy product development.
seems so

Yes, but you already had your shoutout. ua-cam.com/video/Mu52FOovoZA/v-deo.html I'd like to give everyone a chance at on.
Haha ok ;)
