Hey Josh, what I love most about your videos is that I can get a sense of what ammo will do best in what gun I have or will buy. I say "sense" because obviously not all guns (even the same model of rifle) are not going to like the same ammo; but generally, they are very close. This video was very cool to see the potential of the RimX. I see that you recently did a vid on the Ruger American, and that gave me a good sense of what an inexpensive rifle can do with good to decent ammo. I also enjoyed the vid of you and Midwest shooting the cheapest gun in his safe. Like most people, I am a family man that usually has a budget for toys and ammo. When you test out the budget rifles, it really gives me an idea of what to expect from them and what different types of ammo will typically work in them. I currently have a Bergara B14R, a CZ Trainer, and a Tikka T1X that would be considered lower to mid-point 22lr's and that's probably about as expensive as I will go; but who knows. Anyway, I also have a Savage BRJ and I can squeeze some fairly good accuracy out of that. What I would really like to see is you grab a BRJ and show me what that has the potential to do. I know what I can do with it, but to have a pro like you, it will be even more eye-opening. New on the market is also the Winchester Xpert 22 bolt action. Pick one up and show me what it can do. Keep up the good work.

I dont know what you do for a living but you must do it well to be able to buy these top shelf guns you buy. I really like your videos. They are to the point and you break down everything with your pros and cons. I'm more in to having fun than I am in to testing ammo or buying guns that are pretty much beyond my pocketbook. I have friends that weigh every bullet and match them all up by length and weight in labeled plastic sectioned boxes. I on the other hand am happy taking junk ammo with less than 1/2" groups at 50 and an occasional flyer. Keep up the good work. Your vids are some of my favorite!

Josh, I shoot a Rim X built by DPG & love it. It's a hammer. As far as best rifle goes, they all have their pros & cons. The RimX mag blows Vudoo mags out of the water . The fixed extractor is a Pro & a Con. There's more surface area for a stronger extraction but if it doesn't extract, you have to pry the round out. It's just boils down to what YOU like. I drag raced BB Fords for 20+ years in a BB Chevy world. I thought Fords were a better mouse trap & I feel the same way about the RimX. That's why I had Kenny build me one. Not a thing wrong with any of the top makes. Nice collection of rifles that you are building.

Another great video Josh , my favorite channel for .22 rifle , I do like the detail you always put in videos . I was waiting for this particular video were you will compare Vudoo with RimX . I believe Vudoo with all the Magazine problems, still a better more accurate Rifle . I like to see your conclusion in few months .
    Good job body.

I love my Cz's and my Vudoo 360, my buddy Daniel who is a hell of a good shooter liked my Vudoo and bought a Rimx. I had roughly 8k rounds down range last year in my rifle and he asked me to shoot his. First 5 round group from the Rimx, cold bore, maybe slightly less than the size of a quarter at 50 yards, good....... the second 5 rounds... one hole about the size of the tip of my pink finger (.3) it was as good as your best group in the video josh, great shooting btw. It had a s&b scope. The bolt so smooth on the Rimx, even smoother than my vudoo, no feeding or ejection issues, shooting eley ammo, I was impressed with the Rimx, it could hang with the vudoo

As you said, RimX is just an action. The rifle will only be as accurate and reliable as the components and skill of the gunsmith who builds it. I’ve seen several amazing RimX’s and some absolute train wrecks. The onus is on the buyer to do their due diligence.

Bingo, this is an apples to oranges comparison. RimX comes down to who and how puts the rifle together, if you have a great smith in your neighborhood or if you have the skill/knowledge yourself then it’s an option.

I bought an Anshutz 1710, because I was able to get it with lot tested ammo, and it was in stock. I added a C6 butt stock, a folder, and a bag rider. At the time Kenny couldn’t promise that any of the Remington form factor rifles would be hassle free. I have no idea if that’s a fixed problem. I wasn’t willing to do a ton of money to be someone’s science experiment. I’m limited to a .90” barrel and can’t get a 1.25” barrel like yours. Hope your RimX gives you everything you expect and more.

Another great video and review Josh. Also, great shooting. Your shooting skills make all the rifles you shoot look good. If you know your rifle, match up some ammo and have a scope that gets you on target, then the rest is up to the shooter. I am very happy with my CZ'S. I can get small groups, consistency and reliability for half the price of a Vodoo or Rim X. There is a place for them in higher level competition. I am going for the fun factor with my CZ'S.

I love my Rim-X it's super smooth and an amazing upgrade from my CZ. That being said you are right about the extractor being the con. If Zermatt were to redesign their bolt head to have two hinged extractors like their centerfire rifles it would be perfect. I'm not holding my breath that it happens, but that would be amazing. If there's a machinist out there somewhere that knows how to do this, I would pay for that bolt head.

There is no guarantee that a high end custom barrel that even the most talented gunsmith installs is going to shoot. I have seen champion F class shooters struggle with this. The question then becomes “what are you going to do about it “ Or “what are you willing to do about it “. That being said, accuracy and reliability are very important but many times the skill of marksmanship is overlooked .

I have a rim x with a proof research prefit in their competition contour and it is fantastic. I usually have my gunsmithing done by Curtis Tactical, but I was able to buy that barreled action from Altus last spring. It blows me away, how smooth it is. Also the 2 guys I shoot all the time, 1 has a rim x with his own design chamber, that is lights out as well. My other buddy is doing a volquartsen summit, now. It will be a threaded tennon and krieger barrel. I can't wait to see what it does

I have had many Vudoo rifles, still have 2. I have Bergara b14r with carbon barrel, have a Kidd supergrade and a rimx. The rimx was custom built by Ga Precision using a Mullerworks 1:13 twist 8 groove mtu barrel. I use it as my benchrest rifle. I use a bix’NAndy competition trigger set at half an ounce. Very light. It is my most accurate rifle, but fussy with ammo. With the right ammo it is not unusual to get 5 shot grips in the ones. Most are in teens and twenties. Mine is early build. SN 36. Love this rifle. My Bergara is my least fussy rifle with ammo. It shoots lots of different ammo from sk and lapua and cci very well! It doesn’t like eley. My rimx is my favorite rifle of all. Even my centerfire rifle. And I have some very nice custom centerfires as well.

Controlled feed is only an issue if someone tries to single load.
If looking for BR50 match winning accuracy then extra prep is required in barrel fitment. Slug barrel and look for no loose spots where you intend to place muzzle (tenths of a thou constriction is ok, but not a loose spot). Match chamber to preferred ammo and it will be a target chamber.
Once all machining is done to the barrel slug and look for tight or loose spots. Lap with a lead lap to remove any loose spots and impart a hint (1-2 tenths of a thou taper towards the muzzle). Don't torque up barrel so tight it distorts bore and constricts bore near chamber.
All of the above assumes using a premium barrel blank.
Length and contour for running or not a tuner adds another layer of complexity.
Take out and shoot heaps, preferably with wind flags.
PS: a centerfire is much easier to obtain extreme accuracy from.

Been shooting the V-360 over the last year. Just wore out the Main Spring which Vudoo promptly replaced free of charge with a 22lb spring. Mags are a bit of a pain but once you understand how to load no problem with rim lock. I currently have a DP Rim X on order. Can't wait to get it running. Going to have Kenny chamber it for Eley and make the switch from Lapua!

Like your videos but here’s something I find strange. RimX and Vudoo show controlled feed as something new. My Rugers and Marlin 25 (1970s Marlin) are all controlled feed. I checked after I saw a video of a Vudoo. I believe the big difference is at what point does the rim jump into the bolt face. Also the angle of the round in the mag that might keep the bolt from dragging over the top bullet. If the Ruger or Marlin bolts aren’t smooth on the bottom toward the front they gouge a couple grooves in the next round both during chambering and extraction. Interestingly, my 1930s era Mauser single shot is push feed as most single shots Ive seen are. But the ramp (or tray) does the aligning. I’m sure many will disagree with me on this but if you have a Ruger American Rimfire or Marlin 25 just watch as you move the bolt forward. Thanks for the video!

@@PursuitofAccuracy You're right about variety. My first rifle was a Rem 5mm Mag because it was the best at the time for pushing the limit in rimfire. I still shoot it over 50 years later. The internal drive to find the perfect rimfire, centerfire, bullseye pistol, etc., is central to those who want to learn and experience the best available stuff. You, X-Ring, and many others do a great job of presenting many different platforms to those who don't have the funding, facilities, etc. I look at all those when trying to find that "1" rifle, pistol, optic, etc., that might fit my needs. It is my hope that UA-cam has the "common sense" to realize that the majority of people take all presentations in the spirit in which they are presented - knowledge. Nobody presents their content with the purpose of causing anyone to be harmed. Old-school respect for others and respect for all tools/firearms keeps everybody safe.

The RimX and Vudoo precision rifles are out of my price range, but I view the 457 as a start. I could have gone the MTR route but want a 20 inch barrel, and the CZ rifles with that length barrel don't have the stocks I want, or the price is out of my league. When I get more funds, I would appreciate recommendations regarding barrels if you can do that without getting into trouble.

Hi Josh, nice review. I have been running my RimX/20" Proof SS barrel/McMillan A6 stocked rifle for two years now. 7,000 rounds down range and 2 seasons of NRL22 without an issue. Kieth at Phoenix Custom Rifles spun on a Proof pre fit and set up my stock and bottom metal. Day one after 3 sight in shots it grouped .24" at 50 yards with random lot of SK Rifle match. Just last month during an early morning range session got 3 5shot groups of CenterX right in a row .16 .31 .296. The Vudoo and customized CZ457 are other solid choices that will do as well. The RimX does have the staggered magazine and the pre fit barrels available. The Vudoo and RimX have the REM 700 SA compatibility which is nice but if not important to you then the CZ is as good an option. I have seen Voodoos and CZ's have feed/ejection issues but they are fixable. RimX gets you REM 700 compatibility, staggered magazine and pre fit barrels. Vudoo gets you factory support for you rifle and REM 700 compatibility. CZ 457 after adding aftermarket improvements gets you a similar shooting rifle for less. Just pick what is important to you.

I shot with a bunch of guys at our local range before I moved. I had a stock B14R and some of the others had Vudoo and one I think one person had a rimx. They all shot better than me and spent a whole lot more money doing so. But we all were consistently out shot by a local farm girl with a stock B14R steel barrel. When the guys didn't clear a stage, it was always "I had a flyer" or there was something wrong with the ammo or their equipment and so on. Or it was the wind. But for me, I want to know what she knows about accurate shooting more than I want to spend more money on equipment. She got more out of her B14R than they did with their stuff that cost so much more. What's the best out there? There's some really good options, that's for sure. The 700 action seems better for aftermarket support but I really like the small CZ mags and the ability to have an extra mag right there on the gun without too much bulk.

So to spend the money for a gun like that and still be at the mercies of inconsistent ammo, I cannot do it. Centerfire is so much easier but more expensive to play but once you get that load you're done. Coming from centerfire to rimfire was a huge change. Center fire easier to be more consistent with ammo and when you get a flyer you know it was you and not ammo or gun. I would like to know if the PCP NRL22 guns slugs/pellets are just as inconsistent or once you find the correct pellet or slug are you good?
