my last tour of duty in Vietnam, after three years, was with the 159th Dust-Off Med Det, Hel Amb. Located at Cu Chi, Dau Tieng and Tay Ninh. i came to worship the A1E1, "Sandy" drivers. They made it possible, that i am writting this, now. Well, i was a little wrong, when it came time to DEROS Vietnam, i mean DD-214 Graduate time. i wanted to fly to Saigon, to Camp Alpha, on a "Sandy" A1E1 Skyraider. USAF Strongly said NO. But, thanks to my first tour of duty, 1967, First Air Cavalry Division. Whose move South, from Central Highlands, to Cu Chi Dec 1968. i was scheduled to leave Jan 30th, 1969. a Cobra Gun Ship from the First Air Cav was being flown to Saigon from Tay Ninh and it was arranged for me to Fly front seat, as they didn't need the Gunner. "THAT WAS THE BEST PRESENT" that anybody could ever get!! The Pilot followed Highway One and the Saigon River from Go Da Ha Bridge and Trang Bang. i even felt G's

I remember pulling perimeter guard duty at our artillery firebase n we got hit with incoming n ground attack by NVA n the Cobra was called n just hearing the sound of the mini gun n seeing the tracer rounds I was glad they were ours it was crazy n 1 helluva night. Thanks brothers n welcome home
I'm an old Huey, Cobra & Blackhawk driver and must say the Cobra is the most fun to fly. However, this video showed that the Cobra could not do much at that altitude as it is necessary to get your weapons on target and this flight gives you very little time. Best of luck!

those boys had to be a bit wild/crazy to do what they did so well....hugging the trees and going into areas with absurd AA fire. Doesnt get any braver than that.
I was a UH-1H Huey Crewchief '88-'93...pilots out at Graf and Hohenfels used to love flying NoE...me, not so much. The sideways view always made me a bit...uh...queasy. They also liked to do RTT's which while fun, were somewhat dangerous and resulted in a 2 hour tail boom inspection afterward. Pilots=fun! Crewchief=Not so much.
Low & fast..that would rattle your bones as it buzzed ya..turn around to see the noise, ZIP! ..nothing but "GrrRRRRRBBBBB-BPBPBPPPPP-OP-BAP-BOP- OP-OP -OP -op. - op.. " the smell of jet exhaust & whiplash...
If anyone wants to see a Cobra helicopter the VFW in Prospect,Connecticut on Rte 68 has one mounted on a pole in front of their hall. We had a Warrant Officer in my unit that was a Cobra pilot during the Vietnam War and he just loved flying the Cobra.
Ah the memories!! Blood, Guts, Burns, Exploded Heads, Body Parts, Oh Yeah Don’t Forget The Shower Of Garbage, Shit, And Spit When I Got Home !!! ☠️☠️☠️

Jesus! It looks so low he could've opened up the canopy and snatched one of those woven rice hats off of a farmer!
Dash cam old style. I love it. What a rush. 😁
Our pilots did the same thing in our B model gunship until my crew chief told them to knock this shit off

Awesome! .. if you were the pilot you would not want to sneeze!
I heard hard charging music of the period in my head while I watched this.
I wonder if the pilot became a crop duster after his tour.
Great gunship. I wouldn't want to be on the menu.
