  • Portable Charcoal Grill Review | NOMAD Grill and Smoker
    We love cooking with charcoal. Over the years, we've owned a lot of charcoal grills for cooking at home, camp cooking and tailgating. We've been looking to replace our old charcoal grill that was suffering from years of traveling and camping in all kinds of weather. We are excited to show you our new NOMAD Grill.
    The brainchild of fellow Texans from Dallas, the NOMAD Grill and Smoker looks really durable. It's made of aircraft aluminum and stainless steel. And at only 28 pounds, it is very portable. This very unique BBQ grill doubles as a charcoal smoker. We're excited to add it to our camp kitchen.
    In this video, we unbox our new NOMAD Grill, share our first impressions, measure it to see how it will fit into our RV, and test it out for the first time by grilling burgers and smoking a whole chicken. You can bet you'll see this handy cooker in many future cooking videos!

      Hi Gary. Yes, it's expensive, but we've been replacing charcoal grills on a regular basis. It's been tough to find something that stands up to the outdoor elements and our travels. If this one lasts like we think it will, the investment will be worth it for us. Plus, we really like the unique design. We've never had a grill that was this easy to pack away and carry.

    Weber jumbo Joe 18" is durable, less than 28 lbs and stands the test of time like all webers. We have several sitting outside our cabin in northern wisconsin that have been there for 25+ years. Also like most weber grills you can pick them up used for next to nothing if not for free for big garbage pickup day. I'd still consider a nomad if they came down in price by $525

    Looks like a quality design and should last for years to come. Curious if y’all looked into the PKGO? Cast aluminum design with 4 way vending and the lid is removable and you can flip it giving you 2 hibachi grills or one smoker. Cast iron grates and thick aluminum casting make it a lifelong grill. It’s a steal at $269 in comparison.

    great video, what is the difference between grilling with indirect heat and smoking. at $720 with 2 grates i'll probably stick with my portable weber gas grill plus i'm not a fan of cleaning up the burnt charcoal. thanks again and stay safe

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! In the case of this grill, you place the food directly over the coals to grill or off to the side for indirect heat or smoking. With our GMG Davy Crockett, the heat is blown in with fans with the actual heat source a bit further from the food. This is charcoal, the GMG is wood pellets.

    I see alot of comments about the bugers, but did anyone notice the ass on the chicken 🤣🤣🤣 but on a serious note I've been searching for something like this as I love cooking outside. I drive rigs cross country and I absolutely hate eating in restaurants. So I think yall have made a decision for me as I was at a crossroads between this or the treager ranger. And you are right about the investment, I've went through 6 charcoal grills last year alone at close to $50 a piece. So if this stands up to the weather I drive through I think this will be better than the ranger. Thanks so much for a nice video and just diving into cooking on it. God bless

I like the blue polymer strips on the sides, handle and latches that allow you to easily grip the grill and set the grill on any surface without marring the finish of the surface it is on. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these to add to the RV but was just wondering why I can’t find any good videos on people using this grill. Hey John! Our outdoor kitchen consists of: our Nomad Grill, our Davy Crockett, a single burner propane cooker, and some cast iron (a dutch oven and several skillets... as well as a tripod for hanging the dutch oven over a fire). We also carry a small electric skillet that we can use inside or outside similar to this one: amzn.to/39lXm1f.

For example after use can you just close the suticase and walk around with it or will the charcoal just spill everywhere? How easy or hard is it to clean all aspects of the grill?

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Del! We don't remember how much charcoal we used for that cook, but the Nomad charcoal lasts quite a long time. And one of the things we really like about the grill is that after a cook, we can close off the air flow, shut the grill and it will completely extinguish the heat saving charcoal for us to start the next cook with.

  • @rbandaful
    @rbandaful 3 роки тому

    Did you have to add more charcoal for the chicken? or did that last the whole time? seems like it would be a hassle to do.

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  3 роки тому

      Hi Rob. In this cook, we did not have to add charcoal. We did move the chicken over after a while, closer to the coals for direct heat. As far as adding coals: If we’re only using one side of the grill, we can slightly lift the grate and move it to the other side, add charcoal and then move the grate back.

    Looks like the guy who packs apple products has a side job packing Nomad Products! Love the grill but I don’t have as much space as an RV! I’m Overlanding in a Jeep Cherokee! But I’m drawn to the portability! Did you say you can close that up with the coals and stash away in your vehicle? That would be a reason to buy lol! Or have you noticed how long it takes for the coal to die once it’s closed and starved for air? Thanks again for the review! He definitely looked like a kid on Christmas opening that thing! Hey Ramon! We are loving the Nomad. And yes... the packaging was on par with Apple. 😂 When we finish with a cook, we close it up and close the side vents. We're not sure how long it takes to completely cool inside. The outside stays cool compared to the inside firebox. We typically let it cool completely before we load it up just to be safe. But we always have coals to start the next cook with. We do have some ash fall out of the bottom as we travel, but not too much. Bottom line is we absolutely LOVE the portability and durability. It is holding up great!

I just got a new grill for Christmas, its not for RV (500lbs) and(Silver Rocket Grill) made by a Amish company in insulated (green egg type) inclosed stainless steel. Also Tom, can you compare your GMG to the Nomad since we have the GMG in our rig, but the space-saving & weight of the Nomad got our attention and would be perfect for cooking for 2.
