- What makes a guitar solo great? Is it one which is played a breakneck speed? Or is it one played with delicate articulation? Maybe somewhere in between?
We all have our favourites, however, there are a select number which are undeniable. We put it to you that the solos in this list are undeniably the greatest rock guitar solos of all time. We have everything from Steely Dan to (surprise surprise) The Darkness, we've left no stone unturned... or have we? Let us know in the comments below if you think we've made a glaring error, we'd love to hear your opinions!
DISCLAIMER We only have one Jack so this list will only include guitar solos with one lead guitar part, so there will be a distinct lack of Eagles or Thin Lizzy, we're sorry. (It's probably for the better, a world with two Jacks doesn't bear thinking about).

Man, I could just listen to Jack play for hours. Honestly one of the best guitar players about nowadays. His touch and articulation on the instrument is unmatched and really makes him stand out IMO. Arguably the hardest part of playing guitar to a high level, yeah everyone can play a million notes per second and all the scales, but I don't think many can do all that and have great feel, vibrato and know how to control the instrument. Top stuff
Agreed, he has great feel which sets him apart. I just don't get the speed merchants! Technically great and fantastic players but just can't connect with what their playing.
Totally agree
@@disturbedcarrot who are some of these speed players?
I agree... a superb player, and very articulate..! A very uncommon combination LOL..! 😁
Listen to the Hellecasters and your head with spin
Wow, that's some fantastic display of guitar playing chops...I can relate to the list, especially to your number one choice for the exact reasons you mention. Then again you could choose any solo, I'd listen to whatever you play because of your awesome delivery. Cracking!
This guy is sooo good. He makes it look easy. The tone and feel is impeccable. A superb musician.
Amazing Jack, enjoyed the selection, brings back memories too, keep it up lad
I would submit Don Felders' solo on 'One of These Nights'. Very cohesive, very dynamic and takes you an a definite journey from beginning to end.
You‘ve ticked pretty much all the boxes for me. I very much agree with your choices. Beautifully played as always.
Im always so amazed by Jack’s playing! Such finesse and accuracy, and always about perfect tone in each tune, amazing Jack! Keep inspiring us 🤘🏼
Awesome playing as usual. The strat tone was killer in Smoke on the water! I ofter forget how many great rock tones came from strats.
OMG!!! The list was amazing and so pleased to see you included the solo from A thing called Love!!!
Simply killer playing, Jack!
Jack slayed that Sultans solo. Don’t be humble jack! Crushed it!
Agreed, absolutely nailed it! Note articulation was spot on and if I closed my eyes I'd have thought that was Knopfler himself!
Would be great if Jack did a “behind the scenes” to show his process for dialing in all these different tones. Killed it as usual!
YES !! - a TONES video. Do IT !!!!
Agreed! I’d love to know the amp/amps/interface, effects, etc he used in the demo. Probably as important, or more so, than the guitar used.
Keep em coming on Fridays! Thats my drinking night lol love watching these after a long week
The list is pretty good. I enjoyed it. But…..I enjoyed your guitar playing even better!! It’s actually your playing that made this video so so enjoyable. Great job my brother!!
Man I love this guy. So humble and so talented. He looks like a really hard worker too. Peach guitars better pay and treat this outstanding musical like he deserves. Awesome work Jack!
Agree to Nr. 1! Thanks for sharing! Loved it! Very entertaining! Cheers Dimiz
Jack! What a path to the most outstanding guitar work ever done that you have recreated flawlessly to a divine level of appreciation of the great amazing people who created these masterpieces of divine work ever created. I thank you for your amazing performance of these classic building blocks of the work done we so much appreciate. You Rock!
Another fabulous video with some fabulous guitar playing.... Well done Jack..! 😀
God i HATE him...! He's far too talented and articulate and handsome LOL..!! In fact a total creep...! 😏😁
Top 10s are so tricky but you guys always get it so right, well done
Great video Jack! Love the top choice!
very refreshing, thank you for avoiding the cliches. You did a great job with this 👍🏼👍🏼
Great playing as always - also, recognition for the amount of time it must have taken Jack to learn all of those solos!
Yeah. But I bet it took less than we think. He's an absolute master and a constant student.
@@GraniteSoundtrack yeah, I'd reckon he'd knocked them out fairly quick, given his level. Wonder if he does any session work? Or has any big outfit come knocking on his door to join them. As long as he doesn't do those hideous online collaborations with other guitar player channels, you know the ones. Maybe it's just me but darn are they irritating as they salivate over each others' contributions - just too much smoke being blown up certain places.
@@disturbedcarrot yeah he is a session guy. I'm pretty sure this is not his only gig.
Great video. Great playing. 🤘
Great job especially with the Jimi solo! The solo on Two Tickets to Paradise is perfection.
Great choices, great playing!
It would be an impossible task to only choose ten in my opinion. You have Boston, Santana , and a few others that created some amazing licks and solo's, let alone the tones and sounds they achieved. Superb playing Jack, you really seem to grasp the individual heart and souls of the artists.
Solid list, and well played.
The All Along The Watchtower solo was over the top good!! It took me back to the days when he was still alive. thank you!
Terry -Kath - Chicago - Live 25 or 6 to 4
It is the wristwatch tan line for me 😍
Awesome video!
Fantastic playing as always Jack, hard to choose the best 10 guitar solo's though as everyone has different taste's etc, however you did give us some different ones there, which is a good thing :-) One of my favourite guitar solo's is Streets - Don't look back, give that a listen if you have chance. Great video as always
What a show of bravery to even attempt these 10 solo''s and boy did you nail them!! (including the others!!) Hats off!! I was expecting to see those arms pits getting more and more sweaty as the count down progressed.. 😁
Glad to see Ace Frehley on the honourable list with a great solo indeed, though perhaps Shock Me or 100,000 years would have been even better...Thank you very much. I think that these sort of videos are inspring and make you want to pick up the guitar (again)...
Fantastic playing as always, and the guitar played in isolation really helps me notice all the bends, tapping and other techniques used that get missed in the song. Thank you.
I'll submit Neil Giraldo's solo from Pat Benatar's Hit Me With Your Best Shot. A great guitarist and producer who's much less known than he should be.
Wow, awesome man!!!
Great stuff Jack, you can play all dem great solos! I would love to hear you play the 'Reelin' in the years' solo by Elliot Randall!
Great work! Especially with Comfortably Numb and Sultans of Swing!
Great guitar playing Jack and brilliant video. I loved your picks and even though Page is my favourite guitarist it was nice to see Brian May hit top spot for once. One solo I am surprised I didn't hear was Burn from Ritchie Blackmore. No complaints though, thanks.
Wow, way to play all 10 of those so well. Hope Peach Guitars gives you a bonus for that. :) Very inspiring. Great channel.
Well, that woke me up to things I didn't know. Damn good playing
Gotta say the long solo from Led Zep's " Since I've Been Loving You" is my favorite studio solo from Page. Sad it was never a radio tune.
Since I’ve been loving you has to be the sexiest guitar music recorded in popular music not to mention just downright fantastic.
The entire song is almost a solo. It’s absolutely fantastic and my favorite thing to play on guitar
To me, the greatest guitar solo. I understand why Queen was at #1, but that solo didn't make me cry. "Since I've Been Loving You" isn't flashy, but emotionally, it's just the s***. Legend says it was one take, which, if true, just wow.
Achilles last stand
Since I've been loving you hands down! Some of Pages most touch sensitive and just outright emotional.
Jack, you did a great job on ' comfortably numb ' solo ..you nailed it ..
Great job! 🤩👍
Forget about the list…..not too many people can nail the nuances of almost everyone’s style. Simply brilliant Jack - and Dr Z👍 I would add Boston’s “Hitch a Ride” outro solo. My personal favorite of all time.
Yeah but isn't that a dual solo or an I thinking if the one in the middle?
wonderful compilation and playing !!! 👍
on my personal list Gary Moore and Carlos Santana would be on a very high spot.
But hey there are so many Great Solos and a huge part of the beauty lies in the ears of each listener for sure.
Anyway stellar selection and playing once again :)
What’s up JACK. YOU SOUND AMAZING. I listened again . VERY IMPRESSIVE GUITAR PLAYING.
Can't say I agree on about 1/2 of those, but stellar playing as always.
I think we'll need a top 10 Les Paul Junior/Special riffs of all time now. Or just a top 10 P90 riffs.
Great video, just subscribed
Aced that knopfler solo! Nice work!!
Very good man.😎
Absolutely monstrous playing!!!
Well, what can you say.. :D
The amount of skill displayed in only just this one video is really astounding.
Killed it bro !!!🎸🎸🎸🎸
Excellent choices and very well played. I would have added somewhere New Year's Day by U2.
Just brilliant Jack !! You depress me !,😀😀😀😀
Great playing and good list, I would have added Alex Lifeson's solo on Closer to the Heart.
I think EVH's solo in Panama gets a bit overlooked. Especially the breakdown part. The rhythm and the way it phrased is just beautiful. Also the entire I'm the one track is essentially a solo that is unplayable of you're Eddie Van Halen.
Great playing. I bet this video took longer to nail than the riff videos!
Brilliant playing 🙂
My favourite solo was not in the top 10, but this video started with it: Whole Lotta Love!
Nice list, and you certainly played them all well. Hotel California was ruled out because it was two guitarists, but that would be my top solo of all time. I might have to put Crossroads by Clapton in there too.
Yep - Hotel California is the bomb, one of the best solos ever.
Enjoyed that, @Jack - would be interested in how you got the various tones on the various solos
All Along the Watchtower gave me chills as you played #1✌️
I think the guitar solo from Jethro Tull,s "Aqualung" deserves an honorable mention although the songs not very PC.
Great job on a remarkable guitar!
Breton Averre solo on My Sharona will always be in my Top Ten!
Great playing
Jack is so fuckin good. An absolute pro. I wish u all the best man in your future endeavors 💪🏾
My personal favourite solos are
No more tears - ozzy osbourne
Alive - Pearl jam
Blackbird - alter bridge (although technically 2 guitarists, although they don’t solo at the same time)
Great playing as always.
when Jack talked about the 2 guitar solos everyone thought about Hotel California and Freebird. I would have included Moonlight shadow by Mike Oldfield, La Villa Strangiato by Alex Lifeson and Tornado of souls by Marty Friedman. Also, basically every solo by Tony Iommi....stellar playing as usual
Please do a metal version of this too!!
Great video & playing!!
I enjoyed this list and I like them all. An extra star for shining some light on Brian May!😎👌👌
How does one player nail so many styles? Simply amazing!
Jack spent a lot of time in the wood shed honing his guitar skills ... Fruciante, he's 👍😃 a great guitarist with an awesome touch .
The guitar tone from that Dr. z amp(which I'm assuming what you're using?) is just so genuine and articulate.
The songs I chose are for the solos that I really noticed, Layla from Clapton and Keep On Loving You by REO. Certainly something by Journey as well. The songs are nice but the solos jump right out. Great list, Jack and Peach. 👍
Very very a much an underrated band ... Especially Steve Perry ...
Jack - Has anyone told you that you look like Elijah Wood! Lol...I'm sure they have. I just noticed it today. The list was SOLID. Your playing was killer as usual. Nice work, ace!
Is there anything you can't play? Absolutely stellar.
It would be a good episode to have on how you record the guitars.
Well played Jack!
Mate!! Just fabulous 🇦🇺
Great list, excellent playing. It's funny, I grew up listening to rock and I guess I never quite knew what to make of Dire Straits. Now, knowing a little more about guitar... it is absolutely insane how Mark Knopfler plays. I actually think his solo is the most impressive on this list, because it's like nothing else. It seems entirely made up from his own mind, I'm not even sure what influences he could have had. Anyway, sort of eye opening. Thanks for the great video.
I know it was a little extra at the end, but I LOVE John Frusciante's solo in Dani California. Thanks for tossing it in at the end
Anytime a song from Jimi Hendrix comes on I always yell - *"Jimi!"* It's been this way for more than 50 years. Hence, Jack's playing of Jimi's version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" was simply amazing and spot on. Thank you Jack. Well done lad.
I barely care what this dude's talking about, I watch these videos to hear him play. Such a great player, and filmed really well as well.
Great choice for number 1. Touch. Speed. Melody.
Iconic.
Amazing! Did you use the Dr. Z throughout the video? I'd also be really interested in the effects used!
This guy is great…makes me want to view and buy from Peach Guitars which obvs is the whole point. Keep it up guys, it’s working! Top stuff Jack, Beat It and Watchtower in particular. Sort out that watch strap tan though.
Great playing. Freebird for sheer guitar hysteria:)
Not one Southern Rock Solo on the list - it's his list - but no Skynyrd? The Outlaws? Blackfoot? Those bands were built around guitar solos'...And always with the Richie Blackmore - dude is totally overrated - compared to contemporaries like Jeff Beck, Alvin Lee, or Robin Trower even....
@@charles1964 Just listened to Green grass and high tides for the first time in ages. Killer guitar.
@@robinjgill
The Outlaws were my 1st Concert. The Memorial Day Stampede at CCC 1978
Very good list. I do believe solo on Smoke on the Water is often ignored. Honourable mention: Hand of Fate/Stones by Wayne Perkins.
Need yearly maintainence tips/advice for my guitars. Usually I do the following to maintain/keep my guitars in good playing/looking position
-Change strings every 2 months
-Wash hands before and after playing
-Wipe down the guitar with a microfibre cloth
-Keep guitar in the hardshell case
-adjust truss rod when neck moves during the seasons change
I usually don't go crazy with oils/polish etc.
What do you do to maintain and keep your guitars in good condition? what about the neck/fingerboard-especially for maple/rosewood fb?
advice and suggestions appreciated.
Amazing Jack, love the thoughtfulness and skill you put into each solo… care to share what you’re using for the deep purple solo? That’s such an epic Strat sound and you absolutely nailed it. What’s in between the Strat and the amp (Dr Z.) if anything?
Paison, he’s partial to the King Tone Duallist. If I were a betting man, I would go with that pedal.
@@joeygentile7829 Paison…😑
Insane playing
Awesome playing 🤟🏻 loved the Boheamian solo.. what about I Want it all? Crazy train was cool, personally I prefer the solo from Mr Crowley ;-) What about a top 10 Blues solos/parts/playing/guitarists
You know what's a very concise fun guitar solo? Just what I needed by the Cars. It's got a lot happening in just a couple bars.
That whole album is a monster
Top 10, 25, 50 anything is impossible, it just puts out something to debate over, but I have to say I LOVED your nod to Brian May and was anxiously watching the Honorable Mentions to see if it was in there, didn't expect it to be your #1....very glad it was. Queen during the 70's and 80's were not always popular to like (I was there I know) and it's great the public is really appreciating the genius of those 4 men and the results of their pursuit of perfection. Great list all around, nice job.
The solo/ outtro lead in Another Brick In The Wall (Part II) is my all time favorite.
Wow - you really nailed the watch tower solo!
Great list man. Jimmy actually played that solo in the middle position of his strat lol. My only gripe is that stairway is #1 but the tsrts version not the studio.
sick playing
What amp were you using for that smoke on the water solo? (And pedals if any) that tone was amazing. Great tone + great playing = 🔥
