$99 is a really good deal on that set, especially since some of the smaller beginner N scale Bachmann sets such as the Super Chief and Yard Boss sell for a bit more at Hobby Lobby.
A thing about these is when they haven’t run in a while they have a tendency to slow down at points or stop like yours does. Sometimes you just need to run them (not on full power) for a little while for them to get going well again. In some cases you may need to put lubricant on the gears. Typically they are between the wheels, but you may need to take the shell off in your case.
20 cars up a 2% incline, which is impressive for a modern locomotive. I had a Kato Mikado that would pull 16 cars if I feathered the throttle just right. I thought that was pretty good, until I came home with a German engine. This guy has a model just like mine ua-cam.com/video/SvzvI4qeQRE/v-deo.html. The only comment on the video is my review of the engine.
The previous owner maybe found N scale too small for him to handle & hopefully continued to pursue model railroading in a larger scale. A friend of mine tried N scale & got frustrated; hopefully he dug out his Lionel 027 gauge set. It is nice of Bachmann to supply Rapido couplers since they have long been the standard in N scale.
I have been looking at those. Unfortunately, quality comes with a hefty price. I would like to get either the Santa Fe Super Chief set or the Amtrak set. Close to $300. Also I am looking for some additional track from Kato.
If you want to get Kato tracks at a low price, you should try buying them from the Amazon's Japanese website, amazon.jp. If you search a bit deeper there, you can find Unitrack sets for very low prices.

LoL… East Palestine, Ohio moment there! Good video. Wish I could see well enough to have N scale.
No way, not for N scale. He could easily build a decent sized layout in a smaller space. Trust me on that, I have a 3x5 layout and it's got more track on it than my HO layout, which is a 5x8 ;P
I Run Bachman And I love it my wife was Gonna go Kato couldn’t get Enough so we’re gonna trade it off for Bachman or Lifelike N Scale. I am Running 3 Lines My wife is Gonna Run 2Lines. All n All she is gonna Have a Kick Ass layout.
I have one of those 4-8-4's too, but it's a pain. It can be jumpy or won't start like yours did, and it derails a lot. It's wheels also pop out when it runs! :P I think you should get a Kato sometime, they make great N scale trains.
The wheels might need cleaning but i saw a few parts in the video where the tracks weren't fully connected and that could be the problem. I never had n scale before but it's ez track and i know problem i had with the train set would happen with my HO trains sets when the tracks weren't full connected so maybe try running on a different N scale track set and see if it is still acting up or not on the other track and you might find the problem
Once I bought an N-scale set....Maybe around 2000.... I was in HO scale (and still am) and just bought a simple Bachmann set with an 0-6-0 to experiment....Glad i stayed in HO....as even budget stuff just runs better.....N scale is up to snuff, but for a wicked price....Budget N-scale for operation, just isn't there yet.
Bent a little bit, pretty easy fix if you open it up and carefully place them back where they go, this happened to one of my Bachmanns and it’s great now
I picked up this complete set at an antique mall for $10, retail now is around $200 or more.! Don't know what vintage it is as all the parts were in a molded plastci insert instead of Styrofoam. Also, he Loco doesn't want to work but Bachmann told me to send it to them and they'll repair it for $39.00!
Looks like Bachmann N scale is better now than in the 1980s but if I had all the Concor and Riverossi plus the Atlas locos and boxcars that I bought from a dozen hobby shops back then even with the rapido couplers, they would never be outdone by bachmann I. neverr had derailments or coupler problems. Concor boxcars had die-cast metal chassis. Some of the people I see on videos do not know how to operate these small trains and should operate lionel postwar trains. Better for kids and big hands.
I said I used a 25% of coupon. So based on the price on the box that’s about $75. Here is what it goes for currently www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/model-train-starter-sets/bachmann-24009-empire-builder-w-nickel-silver-e-z-track-system/
Good day Nice video. I want to start N gauge layout. But I'm concerned about starting because I see Lionel has come out with an magnetic tracks system and I don't want to start something and Bachmann change to magnetic as well. Regards Shaun
Nice video. I picked up that same locomotive used and I can get it to run with my wire leads connected to the wheels. But when I put it on the track it won’t run... any suggestions?
Happysteve400 - trust me, you don't want this train set. Save your money and buy a kato. Wish I never bought Bachman, EVER. The quality is usually not good, and this engine does not work well with switches. You also have to keep your track very clean, and tweak it at times.
Tony 375 so what would you recommend for a moderately cheap price range? currently trying to decide, leaning towards a bachmann Santa fe flyer, but if its bad, I would reconsider.
Gage Loftus - I would lean towards a kato starter set (they also have a Santa Fe super chief set) but I found it for its cheapest at $215. It is well worth it, but if you don't have the money, Bachman is okay. It is nowhere near Kato, but I also started somewhere (Bachman). If you don't want a cheap, unrealizable engine, then go with kato's starter set.
Tony 375 is walthers good? I have a batchmann Chattanooga and it's already dying after being used for about 10 to 20 hours total unless I need lube but I'm getting that. Also my cars look super cheap and have a hint of neon
Better for small hands is N scale. The Bachmann train on this video was too small for big hands. The train was not staying coupled and pulling the end of the train backwards caused a bunch of cars to derail etc. Bachmann may be better than it was 30 years ago but I still would run only Concor, Riverossi and Atlas engines and cars. Concor boxcars had die-cas metal chassis when I bought hundreds of mint pieces in the 80s from hobby shops that were closing up for good. Nothing like Italian or German made N scale. Arnold Rapido and Concor, Riverossi are the best and Atlas also wherever it is made now.
Anything can be returned to Bargain Hunt if you have receipt and return within 30 days. There was a defective steam locomotive I bought that we returned. They put it right back on the shelf to sell.
You might know it as rehearsing his lines and insuring he knows what he is going to do before videoing rather than winging it.. He takes forever to drive 1 frickin screw. Takes forever to get engine on the track. Maybe he should use the track tool Moaned when something went wrong Learn to say Rapido correctly. Had to second guess about Hobby Lobby. Then the "Oh Goodness" when he pulls the stock backwards to show how the couplers don't disconnect and causes a train wreck followed by a lot of silence as we suffer to watch him re-rail every car. That could've been done off camera and saved us watching the torture. Maybe if he turned the speed down or off it would have been better because the engine hauled ass in reverse when he pulled it off the dead spot on his track. I had to laugh when he said its not for young kids as I was thinking N scale not for that old geezer either.
Bachmann products aren't worth the time and effort, simply put, they're junk. I ordered 2 different sets and they both came defective. Don't bother wasting your time or money.
I have a Bachmann like that when is was new. After break in it runs awesome.
What is "break in"?
Rob Adams after you run it for a bit it runs smoothly some models don’t run smooth when they first come out of the box
I love train's 🚂

When I was a kid I think my family had a version something like this. I can’t remember to well.
Those Bachmann 4-8-4s will easily pull more than 30 cars on level track.
What a great 13th birthday present
I've had this set before, unfortunately only thing left is the engine and tender. Looking forward to getting the set back together again someday..
Another nice one. The N scale is great because it takes up a whole lot less room.
BrickJams and you can get a more complex layout in a small space than OO or HO scale
It might be stopping because you don't have the track lined up
The train looks really cool!
Great set!
The previous owner maybe found N scale too small for him to handle & hopefully continued to pursue model railroading in a larger scale. It's a nice train set!
I got this set today as an amazon returns for 40% markdown and it is brand new. Sometimes it's worth taking a chance on these.
Cool loco! I got my first HO loco yesterday!
Cool that it's not broken
I would love to have this set in the uk absolutely beautiful 👍
nice model train video
looks like it needs a lot of maintenance with all those moving parts on engine ... how often lubing engine wheel arms
For getting Bachmann Track I can go to Hobby Lobby or go to the Trainshop. We Are thinking of Also Get Lifelike Track as well.
I just ordered this train set online with my Amazon gift cards

If you want something that actually operates like it should in n-scale, get a Kato train set
I have been looking at those. Unfortunately, quality comes with a hefty price. I would like to get either the Santa Fe Super Chief set or the Amtrak set. Close to $300. Also I am looking for some additional track from Kato.
sevendoubletwo I prefer atlas locomotives
@BrickTsar Toys
www.modeltrainstuff.com has some fantastic prices on Kato products. I got my Amtrak set for $175 instead of $300

The reason it's so expensive is because it costs more to make to compact and package, also its a quarter the price, new, in amazon for most n scale
did anyone else notice something odd about the valve rods? i think that may of been why it was returned. A good look at what I mean: 6:14

The HO version has smoke. Why aren't you using the rerailer to put the train on the track?
Wish u would have mentioned u paid for it (discounted price) & how much it normally sells for.

Do you sell these sets after use ? Awesome
Thank you. I do not
Or if you Can go to Trainshows they might be there..
The bigger n gauge locomotives need a wider curve, it would go full speed with a piece of straight track in the middle of each curve
If you’re going n scale go with kato. Similar prices but much better quality
Jus bought this set today...my question is ..does locomotive smoke??
It does not
If it's burning up from lack of maintenance
How much could I buy this from you for???
Check the track
The Kato's FEF-3 is much better.
I have that loco in my collection.
A little oil and tlc will do it good
What do you take videos with?
I film with iPhone 7
Thanks!
Fun 😀
I want this train set for my Birthday on Jan. 31
Happysteve400 - trust me, you don't want this train set. Save your money and buy a kato. Wish I never bought Bachman, EVER. The quality is usually not good, and this engine does not work well with switches. You also have to keep your track very clean, and tweak it at times.

lucky have another se so i use its bober cabose
How much money and does walmart have it or cosco?
I’ve never seen n Scale at Walmart or Costco. Check Trainworld- they usually have the best prices
I assume Walmart does not carry any model trains in store. They are available online, though.
the CONSTANT cuts to black are annoying the living daylights out of me
have the same set cabose is of its chasie
I had the same problem but stoped working and we sent to the shop and it did not come back
Just got one... wont run... light turns on but thats it!
Anyone???
Motor is jammed. Possibly needs cleaning or perhaps connecting rods need to be checked for binding.

That’s incorrect. It’s most definitely N Scale. HO is bigger
