I rescued a Yorkie Silkie 6 years ago this month. She was used for breeding and then tossed aside like a bag of trash. Fortunately the shelters in the South call the shelters up here in the North and I adopted her from a shelter in R.I.. Bailey is 13 now and still going strong. She's blind but as feisty as a puppy as lovable.
I too, adopted a breeding pair that was rescued from a puppy mill. They were actually scheduled to be euthanized because at 5 years old they could not be used for breeding any longer. Lucky for me, someone got them out of there, fostered them, and I adopted them. What we went through to get them healthy and happy was unbelieveable-I can never imagine what someone will do to an defenseless animal for money. All the work, tears, sleepless nights, unexpected vet trips and expenses, I wouldn't trade for anything. We ended up with the most loving set of yorkies. You could see their love and gratitude in their eyes; they were treated like a king and queen. The last half of their lives we tried to make it as perfect as we could. They had their issues, and we were never able to get them fully potty trained, but they did fairly well considering. My heart broke as they passed away. It's been over 10 years and I still miss them everyday People who are considering adopting should try a rescue dog; what love and kindness you give them will be returned 1000 times over.

Mine's 2 months old, been teaching him, I do raise my voice a little so he can take me more seriously, obviously not to the point of traumatize him, just raise it a little, he's starting to learn but still got a long way to go, it's good to know they can't hold their bladder for more than 2 hours at 2 months

just took her outside and she peed and pooped inside UPDATE: (march 16 2021) it took a few months and she still has accidents sometimes but i trained her :)
They are an EXTREMELY difficult breed to house train. Everyone trying to use pee pads indoors is making a colossal mistake. A dog should always associate going outdoors with going to the bathroom or they will pee and poop everywhere inside. They may think they have it trained but due to how small this breed is I almost guarantee if you walked around in each of these owner’s homes with a black light that you will pee spots EVERYWHERE but they have no idea because they urinate in such small quantities.
i’ve been training my yorkie puppy for a while now and he still pees and poops on the floor and not the pads😭(well i’m being dramatic it’s been like two weeks since we got him LOL)
Milagros Vargas we got him from a registered breeder who also trains dogs as well has other yorkies in the house… im guessing that he picked it up from his other yorkie friends and that they even trained him a little!
@@peb7231 at 2 months fully house trained, no way. You can't even get most puppies from AK registered breeders before they reach 10 weeks. It takes almost 6 months for a puppy to be able to hold it longer than 4 hours.

My Yorkie is fully house trained. With my dog, it was the older dog who showed the younger dog. I would walk the younger one with the older one, and she basically copied the behaviour until it became a habit.
My sister’s Yorkie just had five puppies and I want to help her potty train them before each goes to their forever home. One is going to my house so I’m excited to see can I do this as I’m a cat person
@@prettygalkj8446 😂 I think it’s the wee wee pads. The white wee wee pad he never peed on. I got the glad ones & they are grey & he used them with no problem
Take them out the back if you have grass wait till they do there stuff, and get that reward for them hugs and doggie threet. They will be sorted within a week my wee yorkie was about 8 weeks when he learned his way.
CJ Jackson I put like 4 pee pads all spread out on my floor and he just started to pee on it when I first got him at 2 months old. A tip is to leave the pee pad with pee on it for a day or until it has multiple pee spots because it helps them to know where they are supposed to go if it has their scent on it. Then make sure to change it because they also don’t like to pee on the pad if it’s tooo dirty haha. But definitely put multiple pee pads in the area they stay so they have a better chance of using it. Then you can slowly start taking them away and just leave one or two. 😊😁
You’ll need someone to help you take him out during the day or take to a doggy daycare. Besides potty training that’s too long for a puppy to be in a kennel. Or consider an adult Yorkie, good luck!
Going on the pee is good for tiny breeds, they need to go more often than big dogs and can’t hold it long. If you’re ever away from home they need a spot where they can go and not get in trouble for it. I got a yorkie a few days ago and she’s trained to go outside, we have horrible weather here (snow) and I hate standing in the cold I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to pee/poo in the snow lol
Why my Yorkie poop outside pen sometimes on pad. The pen is covered with pee pads. He pee on pads always and 90% poop on pads. I give him treats we praise his poop give treats but he sometimes poop right at door of pen. My boy is 4 months old. Could I be doing something wrong. He is pooping right at pen now not inside like he normally does. I keep pen clean. As soon as he poop on pad I get it up. His pen is very clean. My boy also go in pen pee come out go poop on my floor what is going on help anyone.

Yes, good to check! My dog is 9 years old and she was very well potty trained. A couple of months ago she started peeing inside, I knew she wasn't well when she accidentally peed on my bed. I took her to the Vet, she had an UTI infection and another bacteria. After a month of antibiotics, she's much better now.
Your sister has a problem. It's not her dogs. The dogs are doing what they know to do. She's abusive. The poor dogs should be taken away from her for their sake.
hard to comment on this video, I disagree with some of the "advise". One thing for sure that I would never do is to set up an area in my house where the dog could do their business. Dogs should be trained to go outside every time, not part of the time. If you have a new puppy, make sure you keep an eye on it, and when the puppy pees or poops, tell them NO and then take them outside immediately. Regardless, I would take the puppy out every hour no matter what. If everyone in the house leaves, lock the dog in a laundry or utility room so if they have accidents, it will be done there.
Absolutely agree 100%. I've had yorkies my whole life and NEVER had issues with them going in the house. 99% of house breaking I've found is repetition, controlling when they eat and when they do there business! Last week when we had 2 feet of snow what did I do?? Shoveled huge areas on my back lawn for her so she could do her business. Never make weather an excuse!
haha I really wanna see a pup that needs to pee to hold it for 12 floor ride down in elevator just to get outside, my puppy peed in the elevator most of the time so I taught him to go to a pee pad and after he grew and could hold his pee for longer, we moved outside and since then he never peed at home.
I don't think there is one. It's like asking what age is too old to teach a kid math that has never learned. Just put in lots of work and you can do it
