When bands like the Maine, Coldplay and even ADTR make it to the worst list, you know something was messed up about music this year. Also, I am ashamed of what Skillet and Maroon 5 have become. After 2013-14, they've just both fallen off the deep edge big time.
Idk I thought this year was a pretty good year for music (kinda like last year), but it helps that I don't follow a lot of the bands you mentioned, so I can't be disappointed if I don't seek them out. And I don't consume nearly as much new music as Jon or others do, so if I hear even 12 albums that stood out to me (one for every month), I'm good.
From what I’ve heard, Coldplay has been on the decline for a few years now anyways. Also, it was a collaboration with BTS, so some authenticity may have had to be sacrificed there to appeal to their fanbase more.
I think the songs by Skillet, MGK, and Aaron Lewis are the only ones I can say I have even some liking for. Because every Skillet song sounds the same since 2016, MGK reminds me of myself pretending to sing for Green Day when I was 9, and Aaron Lewis is asking a rhetorical question to his own audience and that's hilarious... but I get the spirit. lmao
The fact that Slow Clap by Gwen Stefani isn’t anywhere on this list means that you were lucky enough to not be subjected to it 😫 My personal worst of the year
@@artvjon haha, I was unfortunate enough to have it played at my hotel in Italy. It’s also where I heard Motley Crew for the first time and saw how terrible it was, yay...
As a big Imagine Dragons fan, yeah Cutthroat deserved it. Even though the 'Performance Video' version was a LOT better (I saw in the chat that you used that version due to copyright), the bassline is sick, Dan doesn't sound nearly as unbearable and the kazoo was kind of weird but kind of worked. Anyway, a few other songs I hated that didn't make the list: Sia - Hey Boy Anne Marie & Little Mix - Kiss My (Uh Oh) Drake - What's Next Tom Grennan - Little Bit of Love Joel Corry & Jax Jones ft. Charli XCX & Saweetie - OUT OUT (who asked for this shitter version of Alors on Danse by Stromae?) Cardi B - Up The Vaccines - Headphones Baby (I know the songs by them you heard in the stream were pretty good, but this one is not)

I started working at a job back in november in which we hear music all the time, and this is where I was introduced to Way 2 Sexy. When the hook played for the first time, I laughed at first, dumbfounded by the fact that somebody would use something by Right Said Fred. Two seconds later, I asked myself "Wait... this isn't a nightmare?"
I think Todd In The Shadows said it the best about "Am I The Only One?" Even Kid Rock, in his cringey song, at least knew to put some respect on Bruce Springsteen's name.
Yeah, Coldplay is pretty much my favourite band of all time and Biutyful (did I even spell that right) very much deserves to be here. The only song I skip whenever I listen through the album. Thank God it’s followed by My Universe.
That Atreyu song was so bad, I’m glad you took notice. If you haven’t seen their behind the scenes videos of the making of it, please know; it makes it much worse and adds to the secondhand embarrassment
Can't wait for the kids coming in here saying 'modern music sucks, this is what all my friends listen to, I'm so much better because I listen to Queen and Led Zeppelin'. I mean, he made a best list too...? Look at the comments on the 2017 and 2018 worst lists to see what I mean.
I agree aaa The Maine have been my favourite band since 2011 and I love every song and album they put out but High Forever did disappoint me and I don’t like it, I also can’t shake the fact it sounds like they’re trying to create an Imagine Dragons sound. Legit, didn’t even know Three Days Grace put out a song this year. I’m guessing it’s a total snoozefest. I’m curious to know why that Code Orange song made the dishonorable mentions. I heard it once and I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t that bad to me.
The Three Days Grace is a very forgettable one. I heard it but when Jon said they made it to the dishonorable mentions I couldn´t recall it at all. Wouldn´t say it´s worth being here, wouldn´t say it´s worth checking out either. Just a meh song...
Yeah the 3DG song is not nearly as bad as the rest of this list, and it's still better than their last album, but that's not saying much. It's just more generic rock about "the world sucks" without saying anything of note
Honestly I think so called life doesnt deserve to be a dishonorable mention sure it's not super creative but it's still fairly catchy and a decent song
The blessing of being a gojira fan and thus always getting top tier releases is nice Amazonia will be on my playlist with that incredible bassline until I die Also jesus christ this year sucked for music
22:46 Nice jab to the Republicans. In general, I don't care if you're Red or Blue, but after 2016, my view of Republicans soured for obvious reasons. Yes, I'm blue. My best friend is a leaning Red, but even he hated Trump, especially after the Jan. 6 uprising.
Same, most of my family is made up of Republicans/anti vaxxers, but I keep politics out of my love and affection for them. And I realize the left has its share of idiots too lol. ...I wonder if there's an "alt-left"? 🤔
Skillet has gotten too comfortable with their music, it will sadly never change because the christian pre teens constantly eat up their music. I'm honestly sick of their shtick by now. Generic propaganda and Stadium rock is all these people know. Unleashed was the last one for me and honestly I cringe every time I see, "New from Skillet" on Spotify. On a smaller note, ex ffdp drummer Jeremy "devil daddy" spencer has released 9 albums worth of trashy goth rock/electronica and it's an endless buffet of cringe and hilarity.
If Ragged Old Flag by Johnny Cash and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd came out in 2021 he would have probably put it on this list. All hat and no cattle artists have invaded country music since the 1970s and it wasn't the only genre affected. Posers have affected all popular genres. You know a poser when they seem to check all the boxes but seem to be copying rather than innovating.
LMFAOOOO JON I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!! the skits make me laugh every time lmfao, especially about papa roach and morgan wallen. i always can’t wait until the end of the year for the lists you do.
This year was so conflicting for music. There was so much great stuff, but also some of the most disappointing songs/albums I’ve ever heard from some of my favorite artists.
I literally got an add about Tones & I halfway through the video, and was wondering if she would show up on the list. 10 minutes later and low and behold she's there 😅
Also for As It Is. I love them and I don't mind the song but it kinda just makes me sad. They had pretty decent music in the past and seeing them hold onto the past is disappointing. CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: Emo just doesn't hold up anymore. People still like emo music, but the genre is pretty dead and although I believe musicians can make whatever music they want I think the only reason why As It Is are going strong still is due to them getting into it when the genre wasn't quite as dead as it is now and also because Patty had a UA-cam account. And this is no hate to the band. I find it very cool they are still around and kicking but I personally believe they might have to switch genres soon.
Tik Tok rock is the worst thing in music now. I thought the previous years gave us the worst things but I was wrong, the future will be worse than ever!

We don't really get country music here in England but I watched Todd's video on Aaron Lewis and can't believe that's a real song. It really does sound like when South Park or something does a parody of that stuff.
I was so excited for Lizzo's comeback and I loved Cardi's verse (it is the highlight of the song, sorry Lizz xx) but I really have not listened to it at all since the release :( really hoping she turns it around on the next one
This year's ID album was wild. It gave us one of the best songs or the year in Wrecked ( Also shout out to Dull Knives) . But jeez what the fuck was Cutthroat. Imo the song singlehandedly dragged their score on the album down. It was pretty good otherwise.

@@pepearown4968 It wasn’t the bts collab, It was Biutyful
I think the songs by Skillet, MGK, and Aaron Lewis are the only ones I can say I have even some liking for. Because every Skillet song sounds the same since 2016, MGK reminds me of myself pretending to sing for Green Day when I was 9, and Aaron Lewis is asking a rhetorical question to his own audience and that's hilarious... but I get the spirit. lmao
skillet just fell off. they did do some good songs back in the day but standing in the storm and other modern stuff they made sounds bad.
The Morgan Wallen skit was hilarious
The fact that Slow Clap by Gwen Stefani isn’t anywhere on this list means that you were lucky enough to not be subjected to it 😫 My personal worst of the year
Yeah, haven't heard it...doesn't sound like I'm missing anything! I gave up on Gwen awhile ago
@@artvjon haha, I was unfortunate enough to have it played at my hotel in Italy. It’s also where I heard Motley Crew for the first time and saw how terrible it was, yay...
i haven’t heard the full song, but i saw all those memes saying that the music video looks like an old navy ad
That song is horrible
As a big Imagine Dragons fan, yeah Cutthroat deserved it. Even though the 'Performance Video' version was a LOT better (I saw in the chat that you used that version due to copyright), the bassline is sick, Dan doesn't sound nearly as unbearable and the kazoo was kind of weird but kind of worked.
Anyway, a few other songs I hated that didn't make the list:
Sia - Hey Boy
Anne Marie & Little Mix - Kiss My (Uh Oh)
Drake - What's Next
Tom Grennan - Little Bit of Love
Joel Corry & Jax Jones ft. Charli XCX & Saweetie - OUT OUT (who asked for this shitter version of Alors on Danse by Stromae?)
Cardi B - Up
The Vaccines - Headphones Baby (I know the songs by them you heard in the stream were pretty good, but this one is not)
yeah to be fair, everyone on r/ImagineDragons tears up Cutthroat whenever it's brought up. Nobody likes that song
I respect you for being a fan and being aware of a bad song.
@@casertanick ah, I've never been on that subreddit probably because it sounds like some proper fanboy shit, but I've noticed a lot of comments on the video are positive (though they weren't so much on initial release, and whenever someone makes the 'they have no bad songs' comment the first song somebody brings up is Cutthroat)
@@iliketrains3495 yeah Headphones Baby is one of the few songs I dislike from the album
@@Drown00 it’s so bad, it sounds like a bad impression of The Vamps sprinkled with a vocal delivery reminiscent of Hard-Fi (pretty underrated band who were big in the UK in the mid-00’s). And the lyrics are so cheesy and not in a good way
I will never understand the Right Wing Boomers and Gen X obsessed with the whole participation trophy thing. We never asked for them, our Boomer and Gen X parents were the ones who gave them to us… So maybe look inward about that misplaced sense of entitlement…
It was bad when Taylor Swift did it, and this one is much much worse lmao
The fact that he used it as the leading single is baffling af
I think Todd In The Shadows said it the best about "Am I The Only One?" Even Kid Rock, in his cringey song, at least knew to put some respect on Bruce Springsteen's name.
Yeah, Coldplay is pretty much my favourite band of all time and Biutyful (did I even spell that right) very much deserves to be here. The only song I skip whenever I listen through the album. Thank God it’s followed by My Universe.
Escape Plan is probably one of those songs that has aged the worst. Astroworld really didn’t have an escape plan for many people which sucks.
That Atreyu song was so bad, I’m glad you took notice. If you haven’t seen their behind the scenes videos of the making of it, please know; it makes it much worse and adds to the secondhand embarrassment
Skillet's latest work sounds like all the songs that were on the cutting room floor back from 2010. This is coming from a fan.
Thank you for single-handedly being more entertaining then the entire grammy awards this is so incredibly wonderful
The Morgan Wallet skit was done wayy WAY too well 😭
:p
Do you think Morgan's recent song with Lil Durk called Broadway Girls will make Jon's worst songs of 2022 list? God, that song is bad.
@@smashball2372 I thought that same thing when I first listened to it 😭
Can't wait for the kids coming in here saying 'modern music sucks, this is what all my friends listen to, I'm so much better because I listen to Queen and Led Zeppelin'.
I mean, he made a best list too...?
Look at the comments on the 2017 and 2018 worst lists to see what I mean.
Also "This is why I listen to metal" when Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch are on the list
I agree aaa The Maine have been my favourite band since 2011 and I love every song and album they put out but High Forever did disappoint me and I don’t like it, I also can’t shake the fact it sounds like they’re trying to create an Imagine Dragons sound. And that ABCDEFU song annoys me to no end I never wanna hear it again ughhh haha.
I love how there is a song called "I Miss 2003". Personally, I don't. Worst year of my life
It's the year I was born, so I have to agree.
i was not born lmao
Until I saw this, I thought Bella Porch and Bella Thorne were the same person.
😂😂
The audacity it takes for Tom Macdonald, and Kid Rock to say that giving participation ribbons is fostering mediocrity.
It is!
The definition of irony, although saying their music is even mediocre would probably be giving them too much credit.
Walker Hayes and Sam Hunt seem to be in an arms race to earn Spectrum Pulse’s first 0/10 review.
AJR is literally the longest running joke of this channel 😂
True. An AJR song on the worst list 5 years in a row at this point.
22:30 - That “I pledge allegiance” was spot-on, “if you’re not white, you’re invisible” hits hard.
Even me, a diehard MGK fan, has to admit that Papercuts is bad.
Fancy Like has made me not want to go to any restaurant, especially Applebees, in hatred of hearing that song. This song will be the death of me and Sign Of The Times will play as they lower me into the ground.
heartbreaking to see lorde here. WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR HER
AJR was made for this list
At first I was surprised to see the As It Is track, but then I thought about it and realized I only ever listened to it once, so I had to go back and hear it again. And yep, I must've been blinded by nostalgia or something cuz that's just not a good track.
The kid rock song got me rolling on the floor. It was so stupid it was funny. Even so to Weird Al’s tweet as seen below.
“To everybody that's congratulating me right now on my new Kid Rock parody video, let me clarify - that's not me. That's actually Kid Rock.”

so sad that The Maine and Coldplay dropped the ball so hard this year :(
Anybody else remember when As It Is was known for "Dial Tones"? Pepperidge Farm remembers...
The picture of MGK in the thumbnail looks like that kid in school who proclaimed himself an “edge lord” because he got detention once for making a 9/11 joke in class.
The blessing of being a gojira fan and thus always getting top tier releases is nice
Amazonia will be on my playlist with that incredible bassline until I die
Also jesus christ this year sucked for music
THE GREATEST MIRACLE
Of course it's top tier, it's Gojira!
Commenting before I watch. If “Fancy Like” isn’t number one I’ll scream. One of the worst songs I’ve ever heard
Dude like wow it's so fucking trash. Fancy like APPLE BEEEEEEES
22:46 Nice jab to the Republicans. In general, I don't care if you're Red or Blue, but after 2016, my view of Republicans soured for obvious reasons. Yes, I'm blue. My best friend is a leaning Red, but even he hated Trump, especially after the Jan. 6 uprising.
To me both Democrats and Republicans suck they are no different from each other both only care about filling their pocket
@@dylanblurton1881 Fair point, mate. Just because I resent Republicans, I realize Democrats aren't perfect.
Same, most of my family is made up of Republicans/anti vaxxers, but I keep politics out of my love and affection for them. And I realize the left has its share of idiots too lol.
...I wonder if there's an "alt-left"? 🤔
Also, my dad says that although he supports Trump as a president, he doesn't like him as a person.
Psychosinner. Previously PsychoSexual but I guess that name ruined their marketing
@@iliketrains3495 their constant rebranding as well.
Fun Fact: Even though so many people know about Cutthroat, it doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page
Well it was one of the two lead singles from the new Imagine Dragons album. The lead single usually builds the excitement and gets people taking.
After all the good country music we got in 2020 it sucks seeing the genre go back into some bad habits.
The skits are so good ! Been a fan since 2015 and so glad you killing it to this day . The skits are funny as hell too
Yo! Thank you, that's awesome you've been around to see my growth over time, appreciate you sticking with me

LMFAOOOO JON I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!! the skits make me laugh every time lmfao, especially about papa roach and morgan wallen. i always can’t wait until the end of the year for the lists you do.
More to come!
This year was so conflicting for music. There was so much great stuff, but also some of the most disappointing songs/albums I’ve ever heard from some of my favorite artists.
Me: [watching this video while drinking cocoa, hasn't heard Papa Roach in years]
This video: [SWERVE INTENSIFIES}
Me: WHAT THE FUCK????
Also I had the exact same reaction when ADoseofBuckley included an Our Lady Peace song on his list
Loved the list and skits! I’m not surprised to see AJR haha. You and Hannah did an amazing job!
Say it out loud:
I AM WEED
Megan Fox could do so much better 🤦
I mean there's some good songs and artists that have blown up from that app, but there is indeed an overwhelming pile of trash that's hard to ignore :/

We don't really get country music here in England but I watched Todd's video on Aaron Lewis and can't believe that's a real song. It really does sound like when South Park or something does a parody of that stuff.

This year's ID album was wild. It gave us one of the best songs or the year in Wrecked ( Also shout out to Dull Knives) . But jeez what the fuck was Cutthroat. Imo the song singlehandedly dragged their score on the album down. It was pretty good otherwise.
