    I think it is just amazing how your plant passion and you yourself grew during the last few months due to your move and your new apartment. Remembering the shock of the termination notice of your old place, which seemed like the worst thing possible at the time, you've come a long way and I dare to say everything worked out and unfolded perfectly for you! 🌈 Lots of planty love 🌱💖🌞

    As a Canadian going into winter, I miss spring 😭😭😭 I’m so sick of the cold already. It’s dark so early and it’s miserable even without snow yet.. especially considering our summer in Nova Scotia was cold wet and miserable for most of it, and there was wildfires during the other shorter hot part.
    Our spring was basically summer and summer was awful. So it’s making this fall/winter season even harder.
    I’ll live vicariously through you until the warm weather is here again 😅

    *sigh*. Everything looks wonderful 😍🤩. The greenhouse is beautiful - like AJ's misty section. Can't believe it's been 8 months already 😵‍💫
    Now you can sit back under the umbrella, enjoy a barbie and mojito, and take pride in the little paradise you created. Cheers🍹 😻🐈💚

    Hey Jan, for the greenhouse, what you could do is look into something similar to a inkbird ihc 200 (there are ofcourse better options out there, but something of this sort would be good), which is an outlet combined with a humidity meter, and you put your misters into it, and they go on automatically once the reader reads that the humidity drops under a certain amount! that way you dont have to manually adjust the timer!:)

      I think what you need is a humidistat! Sorry if you know that already or if it’s not quite right, but a humidistat - I think - allows you to set a ‘goal’ humidity level.

    Stunning! So enjoyable to see how everyone has adapted/thrived after the move under your TLC and know-how. The greenhouse is perfection, thinking back on the day you assembled it. Be proud! (Bradley looks as if he's thinking "the guy just never shuts up!")

    Your orchid is a cymbidium. If your outdoor temps stay above 3-4 celsius (40 for me) you will be able to leave it out all winter. The cool nights in fall cause it to set bloom for late winter and early spring. Mine get good light in summer but probably part shade for you to make them bloom. I find the leaves look a bit yellow green in summer when they get enough sun on them. The roots are beefy and they can wedge themselves in a pot so make sure the sides are straight or angled wider at the top. I made that mistake and it took me many hours to get it out of the pot it had been in for many years and i was certain the tale was going to end with a hammer. Anyway, your videos are an inspiration. I started getting tiny alocasias after seeing yours and i just love them! You’ve turned me on to syngoniums, showed me pothos isn’t always boring, showed me about moss poles and given me the courage to grow plants from seeds, corms and stumps. Thank you!!

    Love seeing all your beauties!! It’s cold up here in Canada (well kind of mild where I am but not the growing season) so I appreciate living vicariously through you in your growing season. I've watched a million plant shows, and your way of doing things is more effective, in my opinion. I just got a monstera clipping, so I am buying a chunky medium and a moss pole straight away as you would say. I may just repot other plants in the same medium. Keep up the good work. Try growing a chocolate mint plant, which is a peppermint mutant. It has dark green leaves and burgundy stems. It is not as aggressive as spearmint. Spearmint can be a real beast in the garden. If you boil some chocolate mint leaves with water it will make your home smell like a peppermint patty! a small clump of Roman chamomile would love the conditions you have. Roman chamomile smells like Juicy Fruit gum.

    I live in Denmark and now in winter it´s so dark and wet and cold , I really enjoy seeing your spring content while also being jealous :D
    you could get a few nice bigger stones or something to put around the maranta or other plants to try to get Brad to not sit on them, just make the spot less comfortable and I´m sure he will sit somewhere else.
    Do you have merch available already? I like the design on your shirt, or maybe your logo or some of your favorite/most famous plants with bread hiding in between.
    Your mosspoles inspired me to put my adansonii on one and it´s now one of my favorite plants, it´s just so lush and beautifu. It´s a couple of vines and the leaves are about 20-25cm long, I think for the crappy danish sun that´s alright. It just got it´s first pole extension.

    Hi Jan - your plants are looking great i envy you the warmer conditions compared with Auckland but we are finally getting to the warmer weather and seeing the plants respond. A suggestion for your powdery mildew problem - i did some work of this when i was at University for the organic growers. Yes baking soda 1teaspoon per litre (if you got leaf damage maybe it was too concentrated) also add a few drops of dishwashing detergent (not too much) - this was the best treatment i found. I found it was needed almost weekly in humid conditions and did a good job of controlling the powdery mildew. In the greenhouse check under the pots for slugs related to the leaf damage - i had problems with them in my greenhouse. Always enjoying your videos best wishes Pauline

    Glad you put the nepenthes at the top of the greenhouse! It's the higher light that induces pitchering in nepenthes not humidity. Rokko can be grown sub 50% humidity just fine as long as you give them bright light! Where you had it before just wasn't bright enough for it. So they just gave you leaves with no pitchers.

    I got rid if spider mites by taking my plant outside and hosing it off pretty aggressively, and then spraying it with neem oil when it was dry. It's been a few months and I haven't seen them again, so hopefully they're gone for good, but I also brought the plant home and had it in my house for several months before noticing the spider mites. I'm going to give it another shower and neem treatment soon, just to kick any possible survivors to the curb.

    What pots are you using to put your 140mm clear pots into? I am struggling to find something that fits well and has enough weight to support a 140mm clear pot and 180cm of moss poles.

      Once I extend to 180cms i usually pot my plants into 20cm pots … bunnings has lots of heavy decorative options in that size :)

    Hey, i'm trying to find chunky perlite but it seems like it is rather difficult to get here in Sweden. Do you buy your perlite online? Would you mind telling me where if you do? The only perlite i can get here in Sweden is super small and it also contains alot of dust and it also is like 6 liters for 10 euros... Your videoes are really helpful and i really enjoy watching them, thank you!!

      I buy it at my local hydroponic store in bulk & it’s sooo cheap :O maybe just see if there is a hyrdoponic store nearby :)

    Woah, what is the name of the maranta at 58:15? I've never seen one with so much black!

      it's a maranta kerchoveana, just exposed to a lot of sun which brings out the dark colors :)

    Would you say a Gloriosum like more of a moister soil than most philos or dryer?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  8 місяців тому +1

      Given gloriosum is a crawler they would usually like a more water retentive mix compared to epiphytes

    Question for you, if you fertilize first and then soak your plants, aren’t you washing most of that fertilizer away?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  8 місяців тому

      Yeah, ideally do it the other way around :D
