You inspire man. I got into plants just a couple of years ago and my friends think I have lost it cuz I keep posting stories about my plants and they advice me to focus on real stuff like making more money & what not. Lil do they understand that life is more about lil happiness, peace & doing what we love & not only constantly being the rat race of life.. We all die & everything stays here no matter how much your earn. They think I am wasting my time & I feel sorry for them that they don't have any love for nature, animals or anything else that actually brings you joy

You can have plants and work at the same time. I have plants and water most of them twice a month. Everyone can have some kind of plant and work. Cactus doesn't need care. Either your people are not the brightest bulbs or you sit on your behind all day. I don't know. What does having plants has to do with being focused on important things in life?

You know a good idea to keep your carnivorous plant with pitchers is to buy a small humidifier and place it near the plant, if you don’t like your room getting too moist.
Or you can place it in your Kia cabinet. That might work.

I watch lots of videos now and still learning after all those years. It is a process..............

Thanks for the beautiful tour! Humidity is your issue with your pitcher plant. Try just misting the developing pitchers. But without high humidity getting pitchers will be difficult. I put my large plant in a large hanging pot with gravel. The hanging pot is about 4” larger that the grow pot and it is self watering. I keep excess water in the reservoir and I keep the leaf tips in the area between the two pots. It does help the pitchers develop but it’s hard to get them to hold on.

9x out of 10 nepenthes don’t grow pitchers bc they’re not receiving enough light. Even though care says bright indirect light I’ve found that they tend to like levels that may burn an Alocasia. Most nepenthes can form pitchers in household humidity. How much is your humidity level though? Try increasing the light levels and see if that works. Also check out “eat me exotics” he’s from aus too and may be able to give you better tips

You should put ur nepenthes in ur cabinet if u have room directly under the grow light, I have mine in my cabinet and they grow crazy vining in mine with huge pitchers and red leaves, they love full sun and to be wet 24/7 similar care to colacasia, or put it outside sitting in direct light in a tray of water, pretty hardly to care for if they’re a hybrid

Hi Jan! I recently got a pitcher plant as well. My research leads me to think that rain water is the way to go. I have been collecting rain in a bucket for it and it seems to like it. I have also seen people keep their pitcher plant in a saucer of water. Mine is outdoors in Florida with plenty of humidity, so I don't worry about that, but I will bring it inside for winter and will do the dish of water at that time.

One trick to making your plant have shorter petioles is to give them as much lighting as you can without getting burn. But you may also get your leafs to get a bit smaller temporarily. Then they will start to get bigger again under the new brighter light.

Nepenthes are very picky about the moisture. When the moisture goes down, the pitchers start to dry out. You will need to grow them with a humidifier. Or you can talk to an expert. Some of them do not require a humidifier. But my favorite, the rafleciana types need constant misting.
By the way, I think you will find the NEPENTHES RAFFLESIANA Jack - láčkovka / krčiažnik a very attractive plant to have.

Hello, I love growing Nepenthes! 🤣
I believe that, like you said in the video, it is a humidity problem. My nepenthes grow in a ton of humidity. I recommend moving it into the Ikea cabinet you have or your greenhouse. Another possibility is moving the nepenthes into a terrarium "cabinet." Your plants are so beautiful, btw, and I love your UA-cam channel. Hope that helps, and happy growing! 🌱

@@sydneyplantguyI just wanted to add that I have been growing a similar nepenthes just in my normal living room humidity here in Sydney and it has been thriving for a couple years (no humidifier). I find the pitchers dry up when I don’t keep up on constantly keeping the medium moist- I water it a little every single day in spring/summer! Every 2-4ish days over winter.

  • @breadloops
    @breadloops 11 місяців тому +1

Regarding carniverous plants, particularly the Nepenthes (what you have) - these guys do prefer high humidity, but can survive decently in mid-levels of humidity (30-60%) which is what mine does. As well, the soil should stay moist - ive even seen these grown in water completely! as soon as the plant starts thinking its drying out, it will start killing its pitchers. I don't often mist my plants but i definitely mist this guy, and water him often. Mine has a high turnover rate with its pitchers, which doesn't seem ideal but it is certainly doing just fine - and helping with my fungus gnat problem! :)

  • @ThaoNguyen-hl6mb

Aroids can survive staying in the 10°C. Trust me, because I live in Canada where summer nights consistently dip to 6-7°C and I'm too lazy to bring them inside. Just make sure to acclimate them slowly and group plants together like you do 😄
Also, another appreciation post from a fan: Thanks to you, I'm currently growing baby Atabapoense, Ernestii, Mayoi, Cebu blue, Mican and Brazil on poles 🥰

It had since been potted in orchid bark, chunky sphagnum moss(moss pole moss), perelite, coconut chips and coir, and a lil large grit sand. It's got 3 leaves with #4 unfurling as I type! Man, you are doing so well with your house plants. My Monstera deliciosa has big leaves. And my selloum has big leaves. And my Rhaphidophora tetrasperma and Cebu blue is growing fast. Other than that the rest of the plants at home are not growing much. To see so many good looking plants is really achievement on your part. Maybe you have better environment. However it is achievement you got so far in few years.

The environment definitely helps, but if I'd stop caring for them for a couple of weeks they'd all be dead so I definitely play an important role :D

The Silver Dragon rots for me quite a lot. Also the tiny Silver Dragon I gave to a friend like maybe 3 months ago already got root rot 🙄
Also, I have had the Syngonium Mottled for 1,5 years now and I noticed they have the nicest variegation in bright light. In lower light they just turn green on green. One doesn’t even have to chop the shoots, just put them in bright light and wait. (Only on the new leaves of course)

Ты делаешь столбы для роста растений,но я заметила,что некоторые столбы крулые из решетки и мха, а некоторые столбы половина пластика и половина решетки. В каких случаях нужно делать круглые столбы, а когда нужно но делать столбы с пластиком?

So many awesome green things. I’m super curious about some yellow spots on a leaf that’s all the way to the right of the frame at 43:12- what are those spots from? I’ve tried to find an answer and am having no luck. Anyone know?
And also- you’re right. The pitchers need humidity. I keep mine in a terrarium and they have loads of happy pitchers.

Hi. With your nepenthes, it's definitely a humidity issue...pitchers won't form or prosper without higher humidity. Maybe put it in your new greenhouse?

I have a potential video idea for you, maybe have some of your subscribers submit their collections to do a little showcase/reaction/rating video every few months. Maybe your favorite could win a small Merch pack or plant care package. Just a thought that crossed my mind to see how others are caring/growing their collections and maybe give some inspiration for design and ways to grow that we might not have thought about. Might make for some good filler videos in between your updates and whatnot.

Your Adansonii is most likely flowering due to the size of the cataphyll, the cataphyll when it flowers usually becomes very tiny to push out the inflo, so if it is flowering you should see a shoot come from beside the flower and continue crawlling that way, and from what my friends tell me it'll start having very very tight internodal spacing!

    • @sydneyplantguy

@@sydneyplantguy I'm with you. This summer one of my plants got spots and a sticky substance on the leaves. I found my plant could have mealybugs or any of 4 more pests. All required different treatment. I decided to throw it away and cut my losses before my other plants got infected while I battled trying to ascertain and fix the issue.
Thanks for your videos. I learn a lot from you.
