Dear Dr Marshall perhaps you could have him talk on your program about certain things that he is talked about on his channel especially people are concerned about the St. Joseph's Battalion prayer group...questions to continue it and what Fr. Mark would suggest. Love your program... maybe you could do a call in program sometime dr. Marshall.

No not 1962 but the Pre-1955 is the original Holy Mass. 1962, they took out some Masses for some saints, they took out plenty of octaves. I think there are only 3 octaves they celebrate, Octaves of Christmas, Ascension (not sure), Octave of Assumption, among others. Please check this out. In Pre-1955 during Holy Saturday The 12 Prophecies are read. In the 1962, they have only 4 Prophecies? Where are the 8 other prophecies? What did they do to it? If Father wants the REAL DEAL, he has to contact Priests who celebrate the Pre-1955 Traditional Catholic Latin Mass of the Roman Rite. They are in the internet. Just beware of sedevacantist orders they believe we do not have a valid Pope right now which is ridiculous. Welcome home Father Goring!!!!
      Praying for more like you.
All for the glory of God.
      Deo gratias.

Very well said Angela. I returned to my Latin roots a few years ago. What a blessed joy! I also gave up being an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and will receive Our Blessed Lord only on the tongue. One final chapter for me. I now sing in the Schola Cantorum at the High Mass. This whole experience has redefined, rekindled and elevated my Catholic faith in a manner I cannot describe.

I usually walk okay. Now it's with a limp but I can walk. I have a lot of trouble genuflecting without falling so I hang on to the edge of the Pew near the Isle. I have an almost impossible time getting back up without the same help. I'm at Mass I usually carry a cane. As long as I can genuflect coming in and out of the church and as long as I can kneel at Communion I will. Despite what some uneducated people say the second Vatican Council never called for communion standing and in the hand. Standing is only for those that cannot kneel. I still can kneel albeit with a cane. So I kneel. All you young kids out there listen to a 63 year old man.

I was blessed to have Felician nuns teach me to kneel to Our Lord in the Euchar6 before we enter the pew. We were also taught to kneel and pray as soon as we were in our place in the pew. I was an altar boy for a couple years before the Mass changed. The low Latin Mass was so automatic, it streamed along. There were no pauses to watch somebody walk anyplace. There was no hand shaking (which I dislike for hygienic reasons). There were no intercessions for what immediately became stock and standard intercessions. There was no improvising by the priest. There was a reading of the "last gospel." At the beginning, there were "prayers at the foot of the altar." We prayed more in less time than today. The music was stale at times, and it was invigorating when a new "mass" was sung.
It wasn't the Latin, per se, that impressed me. It was that the Mass was more reverent. We didn't have a choir in odd clothing in the sanctuary. We used the church organ, not guitars. We didn't have ad lib remarks by the priest. AND, we didn't have "announcements" anywhere near like we have now.
Our new pastor was so excited about handing out cookies after Mass, that he had an announcement BEFORE Mass that he was going to do that, then there was another announcement DURING Mass, and then he couldn't resist a REMINDER about getting a cookie after Mass (I'm diabetic, by the way, so this is a useless action to me). Once a month, cookies after Saturday Mass, donuts after Sunday Masses.
PS: I think the idea is that the outside culture should not invade the church. The church building and liturgy have to shake us and wake us up to a different culture, the kingdom of God.

Just last Sunday October 20th I finally had the Grace to find a little church in my hometown in northern Italy and attend to the first Latin Mass in my life and... I simply loved the all of it! The respectful silence of all the people there, men leading the rosary in latin before the Mass, the solemnity of the Liturgy, the dignity of the priest re established, no distractions, no mobile phones ringing.. the all of us were focused to the Sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus. And I wondered how could have been that we abandoned all of this? I use to go to Mass daily but, since that moment my Sunday Mass will be only the Latin Mass.

I attended Latin Mass as a child and teenager..studied Latin. Truly always felt I was in a holy place...was very reverant and peaceful . I loved singing the Kyrie..the Creed...the Gloria...felt so close to God..the angels and saints...I always looked up with eyes on God and did not receive communion unless had been to confession. The change was difficult...left the church and came back..I have deep faith...love..hope...love every prayer in the Mass...it all sinks deep into my heart every Mass so now I am in deep union with Christ. Have practised celibacy since my divorce and am peaceful...joyful...happy..and a leader in Alpha ministry at our Church. I believe the development of my faith and true love of Jesus is rooted in being raised an obedient traditional Catholic and all those Latin Masses I attened (daily in Lent with my Father)..weekly benediction..and confession...daily rosary. Sometimes change is not for the better good. I am truly grateful now for the reverance I have for all that is of God and pray for the Catholic Church..clergy..laity daily...I especially am praying for a deep cleansing so needed in our Church today! Thank you Father Mark...I love your videos which always teach me something new to advance and deepen my faith. God bless and protect you always

I attended the Latin Mass for ~8 months this year. It took me some time to truly appreciate it especially because I didn't know any Latin when I first started going. Yes, I've been to Mass in Latin. I went to it at a church in the suburbs of Chicago, when I used to live there. I have gone to it here in Austin Texas at the cathedral in downtown. I like the feeling of spirituality that encompasses the entire church. The energy of elevated Godly love just glows. I love how the priest sings everything and how we respond singing in Latin. It's just such a liberating feeling. That's the best way I can describe it. I do admit I have a slight advantage because I studied Latin in high school. I went to a Jesuit high school named St. Ignatius. My Latin teacher would have us students converse, sing and pray in Latin, so I understand a bit more. It's a beautiful experience to go to Latin Mass. It's very solemn, and if you open up your heart, it really does put life in perspective, once you leave the church and go back into the world. I hope this makes sense.

I use to go as a child, but the church was always pack, standing room only, so I don't remember seeing much except the backs of people. I do remember ushers trying to squeeze people in the pews. I also remember everyone kneeling down on the Communion rail to receive Our Lord. Everyone was reverent and the church as so silent with probably 500 people at Mass.

I had been wanting to go for a long time and my brother was going to be home from school during Christmas and asked if I would go with him. I told him how I’ve been wanting to go but because of my own craziness, the thought was just intimidating. Needless to say we went and it was great, I don’t understand why it was changed. It felt as if that is the true mass, how God intended it to be and we are all going to the new fake mass. Not that the new mass is fake, it’s just so different. At the Latin mass no one is talking or looking around, everyone seems to be in deep connection with the Lord, it’s so reverent. I loved it even though I don’t know Latin either and was a bit hard to follow, it was still beautiful. I encourage everyone to attend and experience it and don’t worry about what to wear, just go and be with the Lord.

When I attended my first Latin Mass it was such a revelation, with the priest facing ad orientem, made the Mass for me, take on a whole new meaning. Sadly where I live, in the south, we don’t have many Latin options, definitely no FSSP. We have SSPX an hour and half away. I went to a Mass yesterday that with my eyes closed felt like a non denominal service. I couldn’t stay. We got up two min before the priest processed in and went to a different Mass. I wish every Mass was celebrated the same everywhere(traditional and reverent) vs Mass being celebrated according to the people. To me that causes confusion and division.

Fr. Goring, you made an interesting remark in the beginning of this video. You said that, when you entered the church, you felt you were entering into a sacred space. I have attended many Masses in the extraordinary form. I've sung many masses in the extraordinary form. I've attended and sung many Novus Ordo masses. The main differentiator between them is the behavior of the people attending the mass. Those attending mass in the extraordinary form are coming to worship and they exhibit this by their silence and by their prayerful attitude before, during, and after mass. I never see this at a Novus Ordo mass. I have had to ask people to be quiet in order to be able to pray before the mass. I once questioned a priest of the parish I was attending about the noise before mass. He said, "Oh, we might as well be serving cocktails out there before Mass." So I asked him why didn't he or the pastor preach on proper conduct in church and I got "The Look" in response. "The Look" said "Seriously? You expect me to go out there and tell people to quiet down? One of them is likely to go to the pastor and complain that I'm preventing people from 'forming community' [because that's the real reason we come to church...to form a faith community] and I'm gonna get my butt in a sling with the pastor over that."
This is not something in the American church. I have witnessed this in other countries as well. The root cause? Obviously it's the structure of the Novus Ordo, but that's just the start. The language we use for the mass has changed and that has changed people's attitude toward the mass. I was born in 1955 so I remember things before Vatican 2. We called the mass the "Holy Sacrifice of the Mass". Now we call it the "Celebration of the Eucharist". We don't have requiem masses for the dead, we have "masses of the resurrection". As you know, Father, there is no such liturgy called the "Mass of the Resurrection".
Our sacred liturgy has become a train wreck. There are scholarly books that are far more eloquent and knowledgable than I on this subject. I had hoped that Pope Benedict XVI would have done more in the way of correcting the liturgical abuses that have occurred since Vatican 2. At least he gave us Summorum Pontificem. Please God we have a future pope who will take this matter seriously and continue the reform of the reform of our sacred liturgy. I would ask that you seriously consider learning how to offer the mass in the extraordinary form. Many priests I know who have find it far more spiritually nourishing than the Novus Ordo.

    • @GodFamilyCountryCorp
      @GodFamilyCountryCorp 5 років тому +9

This new mass is a protestant man centered mass. It is part of the modernist who Saint Pope Pius X warned us about. Vatican ll gave us a new mass, new rosary, altar girls and communion in the hand as well as religious liberty. These Vatican ll priests do not take the oath against modernism like all the Priests did before Vatican ll. Seek out a true Traditional Priest and on UA-cam watch " What Catholics Believe " to hear the truth. Homosexuality is widespread in this Vatican ll church and Our Blessed Mother warned us about this. Shame on this pope and these bishops and cardinals who are living in luxury and cesspools of impurity. Ignorance of the One True Faith will not save you. All who say Lord, Lord will not be saved. Convert back to The Holy Traditional Latin Mass and the Faith before Vatican ll.

I was an altar boy from 1954 - 1959, and the masses were said in Latin. We had to learn our responses in Latin. In 1966 I was drafted into the Army and the chaplain gave the Catholics a 'St. Joseph Mass Book' with the prayers in both Latin and English. I have that missal to this day.

Congratulations Fr. ! I attend also and use a Missal that has Latin on the left side of the page and English on the right side of the page. It's so beautiful, the first Latin Mass I attended I burst into tears and couldn't stop crying, I cried the entire Mass and had to sit at the back so no one would see me crying. My Soul recognized immediately that this was where I was meant to be.

Yes, as Parishioners we can tell, by the way it's being adorned/decorated, the kind of leadership the Parish have.To me, the simplier, the better.
Of all the Priest I've met, including the 6 Parish Priests who have come and go within the 29 year I've attended our Parish, there was that one Priest who stood out and will always stands out, because of the simplicity of his appearance. That Priest was the same Priest who visited our state and visited our Parish as one of the few churches he celebrated the Charismatic healing Mass. His name was Father Howie McGraw. He was a spiritually gifted Priest who has the gift to pray and call on the Holy spirit to bestow gifts to people.
Everything about him made me think of how Jesus must have act like. When he arrived our church, he was wearing a white garment, just like what we usually see of how Jesus looks like, wore sandals ( how many Priest wear Sandals nowadays?) and he mentioned that he did not and do not own a cell phone. Then, the moment he went the church and how reverently he knelt and bow his head in front of the Tabernacle was just in a Holy manner.
the way he conduct himself during prayers esp.when Calling on the Holy spirit.......
" Come O Holy spirit, come by means of the powerful Intercession of the most Immaculate heart of Mary, your most holy well-beloved Spouse"
The way he uttered/said these words was in a very reverent and holy way. There are very few like him nowadays. I have not seen a Priest wearing Sandals ever since that day.
The simplier the Priest look, the more it shows he's not living in the flesh, but in the Spirit.
Missed him.I wonder if he's still alive ( he was around 70 years old when he came to our Parish in 2000 )

We have attended Latin Masses for more than 25 years; first the Novus Ordo Latin Mass and then the Tridentine when permitted in our diocese. We attend the Tridentine Mass for most Sundays and Holy Days. Our life has developed beautifully as we grow older; we are grateful to have the Latin Tridentine Mass readily available for us and we have made it our mission to promote this beautiful liturgy.

  • @elizabethdick268

I grew up in the 1960's and went to Catholic school and started going to Mass before Vatican II. So the Mass was in Latin. How was that? Well, during the Mass, the priest had his back to us and seemed to be praying to the wall in front of him and praying the prayers of the Mass in Latin with the altar boys. In the congregation, the ladies sat there praying their rosaries, while most of the rest of us had no idea what was going on and were bored. Now, the holy rosary is a wonderful prayer! But it is separate and different than the prayer of the Holy Mass! After Vatican II - what happened? The altar was turned around so now the priest was facing us and not praying to God on the wall! So now, God was in our midst and with us! Mass was no longer like a spectator sport! We could understand the prayers and take part in the prayers of Holy Mass! No one sat their praying their rosaries (unless we came early and were led in the rosary before the start of Mass). Mass was joyful and all could understand and participate! And for the most part, the organ music that had been like funeral dirges now became holy, uplifting and joyful! In my experience, I would never want to return to the Latin Mass and have the priest have his back to us! I feel so blessed to participate in Holy Mass and be a part of it! So many people, especially young people bring so much to the Mass! It is wonderful now and really is "The Good News of our Savior, Jesus Christ"!!!

My personal opinion, and that's all it is, is that it is a power thing. If they (the Bishops) can make you do something that you don't like, they will insist that you do it. I agree with Fr. Get yourself a St. Andrew Missal or the 1962 Version of the Roman Catholic Missal (everything is in Latin and in English) and go to a High Mass in the Extraordinary Form. This is the "Mass of the Ages". I never get "distracted" during a TLM Mass. I get fully immersed and have found such joy. Over time, you can start to recognize and discern the Latin. And, if you are so blessed, having a sung Georgian chant at the TLM is icing on the cake.

Notice too that when the alter server closes the railings from the Nave to the Sanctuary we the people become one body and the Sanctuary becomes the true dwelling place of God. Hey Father FANTASTIC you got to a Latin Mass. Here in Queens, New York much to the annoyment of the Monsignor, St. Fidelis has a Latin Mass on the first and third Friday of each month. To me, although I do not understand Latin, when one enters the Church there is a sacred quiet. Next, the Holy Rosary is said. I say a rosary as soon as I get up then two others during the day, hopefully at 3 PM or close to that hour. Thus, instead of the Rosary I sit and meditate on the Lord or commune with Mom (The Blessed Mother). I NEVER leave a Latin Mass feeling drained or scatter-brained. As soon as the Mass is over the crew for the 08:30 Nova Mass come in and of course the talking, phone buzzing, etc. starts. The difference is day and night and I'm just so blessed to have this opportunity to witness and participate in the utter reverence shown the Lord. Then till the next one, I attend the regular Mass. Glad you experienced it. After we come through the tribulation and chastisement I think those who survive will attend the Latin Mass. God bless and have a Blessed day!!!

This is what the Lord showed me long time ago concerning the Latin Mass. Latin = nit - all
    Mass = ssam
That says it all...nit - all - same
Which means the body of Christ all-in-one union together, one body are worshiping together all over the world THE SAME...
    Jesus loves that...
The last Mass I went to that was Latin was held in a hotel room...
kind of sad we had to go there, like an underground church...
but I saw sitting as I sat in the back, a huge
white dove hovering over all the worshippers suspended in air with drops of blood under this hugh white dove hovering over all the people.
I knew that was a very special sign that Jesus was showing me.
When I was a little girl my grandmother used to take me to the Latin Mass and I would stand there and look up at her wondering does she understand this language ?
The important element in the Latin Mass is not only that everyone is in unison, but that the priest is offering The Sacrifice of the Lamb to the Father... I am telling you this in Tears, it's very precious to worship this way together...
Praise God... And thank you father Mark for this video...
But please everyone be assured that the Novus Ordo Mass is a modern Mass of Paul the 6th, but it is valid and we are still receiving the TRUE.Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Our Lord and Savior at every Mass.

Baptized, Received 1st Holy Communion, 1st Confession and Confirmation before Vatican 11 (thank God) was taught by traditional nuns using the Baltimore Catechism hence there were no excuses for my know the difference between right and wrong but was constantly reminded of "death, judgment, heaven or hell". There was only ONE Mass then and regardless of the peoples 1st language, Latin was easy to follow because the Sunday (Daily) Missal contained the vernacular and Latin so there was no excuse not to follow the liturgy. After 55+ years of witnessing the decline in the devotion at Mass, I searched for an available Traditional Mass and found one with 20 miles. Happy to wake up every morning and look forward to attending either the weekday Low Mass or the Sunday Solemn Mass. The ultimate gift and sacrifice to offer God the Father of His only Begotten Son in an un-bloody manner as in Calvary. There is no politics discussed no irreverence shown to the Blessed Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Everyone knees along the Communion rail and receives on the tongue. There is no "diddy-bobbing" up aisle shaking hands or giving "high 5's" along the way. To hear the "Asperges me, Domine…." as the celebrant sprinkles the congregation is sheer ecstasy for the attendees, I'm sure. The women come dressed appropriately as to the men and children. Finally, the suitable clothing chosen and displayed for a place of worship rather than a nightclub. I believe if one wants offer dignity devotion it should be where unnecessary noise and drama are kept to a logical minimum and that means the choice of music. So tambourines, bongos, and electric guitars, etc. should be left in the garage or the music festivals! God love you and in the words of the Cristeros; "Viva Cristo Rey" and Laudetur Jesus Christus!

I went to midnight mass this Christmas at an FfSP parish. It was packed. It was sublime. The kids were literally in awe. Everyone was dressed to the nines. The homily was moving. I felt transported to another dimension, literally. Sadly, such a Church is far from where I live, so I have to offer my Sunday masses up as a penance and grimace through the endless chatter, greetings, banal homilies, guitar music. I never grew up with the Latin mass, but since discovering it, I can only wonder what have the baby boomers have done to our Church and why.

We attended a local FSSP TLM for 2 years. It was near the beginning of our conversion. While we absolutely loved the reverence for the Eucharist and the Liturgy, we had many experiences with parishioners who were less than charitable. We, as converts, did not feel accepted into the parish. We were referred another parish by a lovely devout family in our homeschool group, where we found our home. Our priest offers a Latin Novus Ordo Mass, which is the same as what St. John Paul II celebrated. The English and Spanish Masses are all said Ad Orientem, with even those Masses the Gloria and Creed are in Latin. There are only male altar servers, incense, bells, and only traditional hymns. Daily Adoration, altar rails, 14-16 hours of Confession weekly, nightly Rosary Processions are all a normal part of this amazing parish. Father has been in this tiny town for almost 15 years, and 2 years ago he began to do all Masses Ad Oreintem. He did learn Latin and speaks it well (he gets better every year). Fr. Goring, with Motu Proprio, you don't need permission from the Bishop to do the EF of the Mass, only the interest of some parishioners. As a great start, Cardinal Sarah mentioned a few years ago that its a good idea to do the Mass Ad Oreintem, and I believe that's a great start. I will pray for you for discernment in this area.

We were taught a little in grade school and 2 years in high school. Today when some of the prayers of Latin are carried over and used for adoration or during Mass at least I can still pronounce the words even if understanding them all isn't as easy as it used to be. Good luck on learning Latin father.

Dear Father please learn it as soon as possible the graces between the two Masses cannot be compared I am 50 now when I went to Catholic school in 1970 & 80s we were taught Fairy Floss & Not taught even what the Blessed sacrament was. Just before the year 2000 I had a strange experience that led me to investigate the changes between the New Mass Novus Ordo and traditional Mass as a result I took my four children to a traditional school I ended up learning our true catechism through them. In 2007 my father was diagnosed with Lung Cancer for the next three years I tried my hardest to attend daily Latin Mass and offered my rosary with it. Five months before his death on 22nd August traditional feast immaculate heart of Mary he converted welcomed into Holy church taking Augustine as his confirmation name. HE PASSED AWAY 25 January Feast of St Paul's Conversion.

      It’s contrary to Canon Law.

An elderly priest told me only priests that are studying Canon Law are required to learn Latin!
Due to the changes since the Vatican 2 council this has been the norm!

James Espin He’s mistaken. The current code of Canon Law, put into effect in 1983, Canon 249 clearly states, “Can. 249 - Institutionis sacerdotalis Ratione provideatur ut alumni non tantum accurate linguam patriam edoceantur, sed etiam linguam latinam bene calleant necnon congruam habeant cognitionem alienarum linguarum, quarum scientia ad eorum formationem aut ad ministerium pastorale exercendum necessaria vel utilis videatur.” (BTW: Priests must know Latin well enough to read and comprehend all the Church’s documents, as all official documents are published in Latin. The translations into the vernacular are merely there to help the faithful to get an idea of what the documents say, but since something is always lacking in a translation, a common universal language must be used. Even those priests who are not Latin Rite Catholics are required to have a very good understanding of Latin. If you read the documents of Vatican II, it’s even stated in there that seminarians are required to study Latin in the seminary and are required to be well-verses in it.

Father, You captured the essense of experiencing the Latin Mass. So many speak of the quiet, the beauty, the reverence, (Yes, it's all that too.) but I believe what they really are trying to describe is the actual experience of the presence of God--like a small portal opening up from heaven---no exaggeration, no hyperbole. We don't even have to be saints to kneel down, pray, and have heaven open before us. They took that from the baby boomers in the '60s and '70s, and we know what followed. You got it right after your very first Latin Mass--amazing! Thank you for all you do.

If you want to experience the fullness of the Traditional Latin Mass, you need to attend a Solemn High Mass with a deacon and subdeacon. There is so much symbolism to edify the faithful that it’s amazing, especially if it’s celebrated well and each cleric is in step with each other so you get the flow and cadence of the Mass.

Fr. Mark I recently have started attending the Latin Mass when I can on Sunday I still mostly attend the Novus Ordo Mass. I do feel more reverence is displayed in the Latin Mass. I do enjoy the solemnity in the Latin Mass. I've also been to a Byzantine Rite Catholic Mass we tend to have more options here on Long Island. If the priest is reverent I feel the sheep will follow their Shepherd God Bless you father praying my rosary and chaplet for you.

Welcome, Fr. Goring! I'm blessed to be at a Latin Mass parish, and I agree with the other commenters who are saying if you liked the Low Mass, you'll love the High Mass.
