Starting Salary in Tech Sales as an SDR
When you're starting your tech sales or software sales career as a recent graduate or a person who just changed industries into tech sales, you might expect a base salary of $40,000 to $65,000 USD with an OTE totaling $70,000 to $90,000. OTE means On Target Earnings and combines your salary plus 100% of your commission if you hit your full quota for the year. You can earn more or less depending on how much you sell for a given time period.
Why Companies Pay So Much For SDRs & Entry Level Roles
Sales development reps and business development reps get paid high salaries and commissions because they play an active role in generating revenue for their company. Theoretically, if the sales or business development rep is generating quality leads that ultimately close into revenue, they are making more money for the company than they cost.
    Account Executive Tech Salaries
Account Executives generally have a base salary of $55,000 to $85,000 with an OTE of $120,000 to $140,000. It's clear that salaries and commissions from an SDR and BDR jump significantly once you become promoted to an AE role. And as you advance as an account executive, you can be making upwards of $110,000 to $120,000 base salary with an OTE of $220,000 to $280,000.
Should You Start a Career In Sales?
If you're looking for a career where you get to work with intelligent people, get paid to help others, and make big commissions, sales might be the career option for you.

@@jplaza7210 I have 9 total years of work experience since graduating college. I graduated in mechanical engineering and got a support engineer job in a software company. I then moved in to pre-sales and full on sales after. I've changed jobs twice. My salary would go like this,

      Year 2 (switched to presales) - 68k

@@cristianpadilla1756 I can only talk about the entry role position in Dublin. It was around 40k euros plus relocation bonus. But you have to consider the low Irish taxes so if you wanna compare it to other European countries it’d be maybe 55k euros? Still pretty low considering life in Dublin is expansive. But like I said the roles after that pay pretty well.
My second issue was: I don’t see that much possibility for self improvement when you work in sales tbh. At one point is Just starts repeating. So for an entry level position I’d chose a position where you actually have a high learning curve.
