    “Drilling into the ground” what a perfect visual concept!!! It really makes you think about that hip movement! You are so go at getting in all the important points without any superfluous jibber jabber. Thank you!!!!!!

    Hi. Good video on "how to" of shuto uke. I would really love to see the "why" the movements is like that. I mean, the purpose of shuto uke. Why the pulling shuto hand ends at the belly rather than ends at the waist like other moves hikite. Why the pulling hand doesnt make a fist like other hikite hand. Why the palm facing up, not facing down?
    Thank you, oss!

    • @peterprokopiuk4921
      @peterprokopiuk4921 5 місяців тому +1

      Because the hikite in this instance is grabbing the tricep, and the reason for it being across the belly is because you're trapping their arm against your torso while striking at the neck; stand too square-on, and they have a much easier time escaping the grip because you're trapping less of them.

    A tip for people who feel like there isn't much power in the lower area of the body when you're doing the technique, so basically it comes down to your hip movement, try to think of it as grabbing a pool noodle and twisting it one way, it'll go back when you let go, right? Same thing with your hips, as he says it you pull it down, you're just twisting to one side, and letting the muscles relax to go to it's original form, but when you let your hip relax after you twist, make sure to add power to fully give you advantage in the technique!!

    How would you break down shuto uke in neko ashi dachi? We usually do that strike in that stance as well as sanchi dachi.

  • @marcofc5413

    In shotokan, moving forward in kotukso dachi pivots on the heel, the leg that is behind. Could you make a video about it?

    AT 5:13, the hand doing Shuto Uke is in line with the middle of the body. Shouldn't it be more extended toward the back, in line with the shoulder better protecting the Humerus against a strike?

  • @aardvarkhendricks6555
    @aardvarkhendricks6555 3 роки тому

    The knife hand is better employed as a strike as opposed to a block. It is also better employed when the palm is facing downward.

    What type of karategi do you use? I am looking for a medium weight one which is light but still has that snap.
    Do you have any recomendations of brands or models?

      long since stopped karate as now 80 .But still have the gi .
