- In this tutorial, I cover the basics on how to effectively clean and press a giant dumbbell, or circus dumbbell. I go over the most effective placements, how to cycle through reps quicker, and the difference between globe and barrel shaped dumbbells.
Definitely saving this video for when I finally purchase one of these goofy ass implements. Thank you!
You're the man Bromley
In my gym the heaviest dumbbell is 100lbs but now I found a loadable one, so I did 120 for 1 but I cant position it good on my shoulder because the plates spin. I think I got atleast 10lbs more. Thank you for the video
Thanks boss
Great video, shame that so small ammount of views
Good to find you. I have just started some sort of strongman training which includes 1 arm press. After seeing your video I followed your advises but all feels alien to me. The major issue is to keep the elbow high. It feels like it want to drop down and forward. Is there I need to focus on? Any advise?
Are single arm dumbbell clean and presses good developmental movements?
For utility, overall fitness yes. For bodybuilding and building a particular muscle, No.
You mentioned in this video this exercise does not make you stronger over all. But In your video "The Shortest Strength Program Ever Made," the author proposes strength gains by working only two exercises, the DeadLift and the single shoulder press
Yes, they are two different lifts. A circus dumbbell press is not and should not be done strict. The point is to get as much weight overhead as possible, so leg drive is used and often a jerk. Not great for developing size or strength specifically in the arm.
I also said I wasn't telling people to run off and do Pavel's program and wouldn't tell people to drop millitary presses for one arm presses; that vid was more about discussing the program in the context of general training than a recommendation.
Hey man, I know this is an old video, but do you have any accessories that might help with circus dumbbells?
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm having an issue with the edge of the bell bruising my forearm where it contacts the bone (smaller wrists). Any advice on limiting that, other than just sucking it up? Problem is that it's limiting the number of sessions I can get in during a week.
Wrap your forearm with a wrist wrap to sit the edge of the bell on or even an elbow sleeve. Just something to cushion the area.
