- Kodaikanal is around 120 kms from Madurai, 460 kms from Bangalore and 530km from Chennai. The road to Tamara Kodai has a lot of hairpin bends and offers a magnificent view of Kodai mountains. Set high in the hills of Kodaikanal, The Tamara Kodai provides a luxurious, heritage experience unlike any other.
This resort dates back to the 1840s when the building itself was originally called Baynes Bungalow owned by British district judge Mr. Baynes. This was later renovated and reopened as La Providence which was used as rest houses for priests. The property is now very well maintained and luxurious.
They have various activities like archery, air hockey, pizza making, cocktail making among many others. Most of them are chargeable with some complimentary activities. This is not a pet friendly resort.
Winters in Kodaikanal are truly a sight! Temperature can reach as low as 8°C. Summers in Kodaikanal are warm and breezy with an average temperature of 23°C.The Tamara Kodai is home to the only temperature controlled pool in Kodaikanal but the pool does feel a bit small at times.
Bistro 1845 is a French style à la carte bistro and bar, serving the best of European, Asian and Indian cuisine. La Providence is a multi cuisine restaurant which is open for breakfast and dinner buffet. The food was good with good amount of varieties. They don't have high tea unlike most other resorts.
