Saw these guys on a warm summer night in NYC on the pier with Twin Towers clear as day to the left of the stage. One of my greatest memories of this band. Incredible musicians and great music. If only they had prevailed... like Elvis, the Beatles and countless others. On to the next realm...
Saw these guys back in the day at a club I frequented called the Mirage in the Twin Cities. Hands down, one of the best shows I ever saw. The intimate setting - awesome. And to boot it was so damn loud that it shook everthing loose. You needed to use the bathroom by the end of the show! It was GREAT! Jake is the best and I think never received the respect/recognition he deserved.
When I saw them Jake had an inflateable cast on his left leg so he leaned against his Marshall Stack and kicked ASS. I also saw Jake when he was with Ozzy in 84 during the Bark At The Moon tour and Jake is one of the Best EVER!!! i EVEN NAMED MY SON AFTER HIM. By far my fave guitarist
Got to see them twice at a little club in Fayetteville NC called the "Flaming Mug". They opened with this song on their first time through. They kept the stage black and just let the intro build into this massive sonic tidal wave of feedback and it when it finally broke over the audience, out pops Jake just killing it. Reminded me of those big wave surfers that get covered up in white water only to come unscathed. Freaking awesome!
Back in the early 90's they were the next best thing to Led Zeppelin. Which says allot. Check out the side view 0:39 being on stage yes we notice you in the crowd but sometimes our biggest rush is checking/reading each other while jammin the songs. You never know where another member might take a song any given night. What a rush. RIP Ray
This is one of the songs that Jake showed Ozzy when he was in the band still, and Ozzy shot it down. Needless to say, Ozzy’s best solo era was in the 1980s. Zakk could only do so much. And he did. But really it’s no one’s fault except societies. Instead of basking in the beautiful art that metal was shown to be capable of, like master of puppets for example, by the 90s we chose to whip out the needle and the spoon and wear boots with shorts. We got dumber, or we got ‘easier’. it was more than just a matter of taste. Music has a certain wild power to it. The way you harness that power, and craft it the closest you can into the monumental innovation that it is capable of, (and still we have yet to reach the true peak) the greater the music. It goes beyond preference. You can pay $100 for nosebleed seats to a show where it’s just a single guy on stage rolling around in cow shit, and call it music. But like modern art, if you want to settle for low level, ‘playing it safe’ bullshit, you simply don’t have to try. If you want to reach for the stars, it’ll take work, but you’ll bring the human race with you.
I saw that show too. It was at the Omni. I think they actually played two nights in a row, (or an early show and a late show on the same day, can't remember which). ...Great show anyway. I haven't even listened to this band for years (kind of forgot about them).
@rockdaddio You're right, Greg's mic is too loud. I think this was taken straight from the board. It sounds like we're hearing only half of the mix. The second bass drum can't even be heard. At 2:40 - 2:58 the bass drum hits are missing/can't be heard. Even so, this still sounds awesome. Badlands ROCKS! R.I.P. Ray.
@plumbrunner Yep, Saw them in Erie,Pa in 90 with Great White and Tesla too. Jack Russell's voice was shot so Great White didnt play. I remember Jake had a soft cast on his leg. GREAT SHOW. Where did you see them

That's awesome
Sad this track wasnt performed on Voodoo highway era gigs. Stuff like this is why badlands is both legend and untouchable music and band.
Jake said that he presented this song to Ozzy. Ray was the right man to sing it!
