I’m biased as a Comanche 180 owner but it’s gotta be the best “affordable” personal airplane. They started in ‘58 and ended in 72 when the lockhaven plant flooded
Thanks for the message!
You kind of brought a tear to my eye with this one Rich. I spent a large part of my childhood in a Comanche, flying around the US and Canada with my folks. My dad was a Piper dealer and parts peddler for many years out of St Paul Mn, and I had the awesome and incredibly fortunate childhood of being in the right seat, and experiencing things other kids my age could only dream of. I've always been in love with airplanes, and I sure miss flying, but a host of heart problems closed the door on my personal quest to become a pilot. I have to tell you Rich, I really appreciate you sharing your videos, and you do one hell of a job making them, and I won't ever miss a one of the new ones.
Thanks again Rich.
Oh yeah,,, I would love to see your opinion on the Comanche 400 some day. I was in one a time or two, and it was a rocket
Thanks for the message and glad it bright back some good memories - sounds like you had some great times as a child! Would love to get my hands on a 400!
I guess this just goes to show that if it’s maintained well and updated then a 1960 aircraft can be very relevant. Thanks for sharing Rich.
Very true. Thanks for watching!
It is amazing how you can jump into just about anything with wings and fly it safely.
They are all a lot more similar than they are different! Thanks for watching!
That's not how it works at all.
Please - tell us how it works.
@@FlyingwithRich Rich, I was reacting to the comment that I interpreted to mean a pilot can jump into any airplane and fly it. I can fly a few Cessna, Beechcraft, and Piper models but I can't jump into a TBM and fly it. Clearly, I knee-jerked at that comment. You got the mad time and skills to fly a whole bunch'o'stuff.
I'll let myself out now. 🙃🙃🙃🙃
Rich is what ya call " Seasoned"
Visibility from pilot seat looks wonderful and I love the panel layout! Looks very clean and organized.
My dad had a 260b that he flew for many years. We went everywhere in that plane for close to 0 years! Great vid.
Really enjoying these videos Rich, love these tastefully restored and modernised aircraft. Schmiiindy's 1950's Cessna is another great example of a tasteful resto.
👍🏻😎What a peachy little Piper. Thanks for the ride!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome looking airplane!
its great to see there r still commanches flying there arnt many left in australia rich its a classic awesome phil
Thanks!
Awesome upgrades.
I used to own a Comanche 180. Loved that airplane!
Seems like the 180 would be a covert efficient airplane!
Rich now this is a Beautiful Aircraft that I would love to owning!!! Wow
Nice presentation
The paint looked really good and that carbon fiber (look?) panel is very nice! Sweet!! --gary
Nice landing Rich
That bird purred, great video Rich
Thank you!
My dad had one of these. Use to fly around in it when I was 9.
Very cool memory and airplane.
such an amazing aircraft. Hope to be able to afford one someday. Especially love the 400 with tip tanks
Great airplane - thanks for watching!
That panel is sweeet
Those nostalgic “Yokes” pretty much date the plane even if you didn’t say what year it was built…..sweet ride!
If I won the lottery, Comanche would still be my first choice. Classic, like a muscle car ... that really does fly!
Electronics International (“EI”) makes the CGR30P and CGR30C engine instruments. As to speed, I think year for year the Comanches were every bit as fast as the Bonanza’s (similar horsepower) until ‘64 when the 285hp S35 Bonanza arrived. The flood at Lock Haven, PA ended the production of PA24/30/39 Comanche series. Loved the video…Comanche owners are every bit as enthusiastic about their aircraft as Bonanza owners.
Thanks for the message!
Nice flyer!
Rich. Love your channel. I have no idea why you don’t have 262k followers yet! You could fly a washing machine around the pattern and make it look easy!
Thanks - appreciate that!
The Comanche is probably the best looking airplane in the sky today! I love the four window, it is beautiful. I hate the six window it's ugly. This particular plan is so damn good looking and that is a nice panel too! Just too better than that fuel injection. I bet you the owner would take $165,000 for it! Beautiful plane!
If it holds 90 gallons, it’s a 61 model built in 60. I love mine
My club has one of these I've been thinking of getting checked out in. Looks like a nice xc machine.
It is a great cross country airplane - thanks for watching!
I have a 1959 250 Comanche. Similar panel, not quite as good but have an spec 60-2 autopilot. I have tip tanks and that translates to a little more than 800 NM range. It does everything an F33 Bonanza does with a little less comfort and a little less speed, but a lot cheaper to buy and own. It’s a good airplane
hi! what it's lacking comfort wise? also what do you recon how tall of a guy can fit in this airplane? i am 193 cm = 6'3.98 , would I fit?
You would fit but might be a little tight on headroom.
That’s correct headroom will be less than the bonanza, but the Comanche is wider
I'm sure this is one of the nicest in the whole wide world :)
Haven’t been around a lot of Comanche’s but based on what I saw at Oshkosh, owners are really doing some nice upgrades and I think justified. It’s a great airplane.
RICH!! Look at you! Flying a Comanche - a peon's plane like us 'poor' guys fly -- instead of the heavy lumber you normally swing --
You always make it look easy, no matter what you're sitting behind!
Thanks - it’s a cool airplane. Would make a great commuter for someone needing regional travel. I love them all!
5:58 he guesses the range of this plane is "I'd say somewhere in the 600NM range." Nope... more like 850NM with 45 minute reserve. Just do the math: It's got 86 gallons usable on board. With clean paint like that, a properly rigged PA-24-250 can cruise at 145KIAS (75% power at 7500MSL). If run a bit lean of peak the fuel burn will be around 13gph - less if it has electronic ignition.
The piper 24 250 is Pipers best airplane easily
I can remember when a new 172 was $14,950….. so yeah, it’s hard to imagine a 62 year old Comanche going for $185k !!
What year was that? Gotta consider inflation…
"PROGRESS" scream all the Marxists that purposefully destroyed our economy. We will be making our first of forever trillion dollar interest payments soon. At some point in the not too distant future we will be looking at a loaf of bread for 185k.
@@louissanderson719 1960 at 14,950 counting for inflation comes in at $159.363.94. Imagine if it had updated avonic, they'd probably ask for 250k LUL. OP, there's a difference between not having the money to buy something and not wanting to overpay. No wonder prices are so high these days, if you can get away with this, then you can get away selling LSA for 200k.
I’d be curious to know if this sold and for how much. I’ve owned several Comanches over the years. They are great planes and this one is nicely equipped for sure. My guess is 135k-150k in 2023 money.
I had a Commanche 260 C model built in 1969. Beautiful airplane. Great Cross Country platform. This panel is amazing and the owner put so much love into this plane. There is a loyal following for the Piper Commanche. Much like the Mooney or Twin Beech. Should sell pretty quick.
Thanks. Impressive airplane. I saw the Comanche owners group at Oshkosh - some very cool, well restored airplanes.
Nice video. How would the cabin width compare to a Cessna 206? Mainly the front two seats. Thank you.
Much smaller - I don’t know the dimensions but a pretty big difference.
Hi Rich can you tell me how tall of a guy fits in this airplane? also can the backrests upgraded for normal sized ones plus headrest? is this even a thing that's doable? thx
Owner of a 1960 Comanche 180 - I am 6’ 3” and about 160lbs so skinny and I fit just fine. My dad is 250lbs and 6’ 3” and it’s a tight fit for him with head room. His headset just barely touches the top of the cabin. Even with our height, you can not beat the comfort of a Comanche. Lots of shoulder room as well.
Thanks for feedback!
Everything is nice but I would prefer actual numbers and more specific info on flying this aircraft. Also, where will that extra 30 gallons go ? I don't see the tip tanks
Did you keep it on the center line?
It’s an unavoidable goal for me on every take off and landing!
Turn key Aircraft that won’t last long after this video
All Aviators Are Pilots But NOT All Pilots Are Aviators. This Is A Plane For Aviators! Thank You.
I wish I could afford one... Every comanche I'm finding is like 90k+ ridiculous
Why does it make sense to fly a fifty year old airframe ?
I'm uk and got not enough money or ppl. But my god after the a2a release I would love this 😅
Bet you wish you waited, bet its gone up in value in the last month 😮
$185k ???? 1960 airframe.? No sorry..
No need to be sorry if you can’t afford it. Thanks for watching!
Hate to kill the excitement here but this is a 65 YEAR OLD PLANE! Think about it! $$$180k???? Hahaha. Don’t think so. Whoever buys this is just NUTS! The engine probably needs to be overhauled hence they did the cylinders trying to give it a few more hours before the engine just gives out on you. Don’t be a fool. This thing is worth maybe 60-80k. WHO would put all those avionics in an old plane? Just nuts!
Does the DC-3 come to mind? the DC-10 (still flying for the AF after 50 years) the B-52?. This classic and sought after AC only has 3700 total time and if kept hangared and well maintained should give many hours of serviceable life. The plane is "worth" what someone (who wants it and is knowledgeable) will pay for it.
Well said!
Ad it up. Engine prop and panel your there.
You're behind the times! Nicely equipped 6-cylinder Comanches have sold for $80-120K for years. But nowadays, a Comanche 250 with an amazing panel like this will command every bit of $140-160K.
@@mdickinson ohhhhkaaay BOOMER! You must be an older fellow. Tell you what, go check back his website in 6 weeks and see if it sold. Let me help you, it wont. its a 65 year old plane!! It’s a dinosaur. A pig with lipstick. Sellers like these people have lost touch with reality. Market has changed and inventory is not moving. This is the last plane to sell at 185k. I’d be a buyer for 60-70k. He has grossly overpriced this plane by a $100k. Its probably on consignment. I doubt they’d buy such a plane.Again, someone needs to pay for his vacations and yachts. Are you gonna be that sucker? 99.9% people will pass.
