He already had like two stones during the Avengers movie. He waited because he was waiting for better opportunities and didn't want to alert the rest of the universe to what he was up to.
Thanos was, literally, created by Marvel to be their version of Darkseid. That said, there's no comparison between the two universes. DC is, by it's nature, WAY higher powered than Marvel. Just google 'How much can Superman lift?' and then 'How much can Thor lift?'... and then consider how often people argue about who'd win that fight. By comparison, Flash could single handedly beat Superman and the entire Justice League in less than a micro second if he let loose. The power levels in DC are so extreme that it's impossible to be consistent with them without running out of storyline very quickly. Marvel is as successful as it is because the power levels are low enough to write stories where the characters are challenged.
DC took the DragonBall Z route of just making their characters unbelievably too powerful. As if Super Saiyan Blue combined with Kai-O-Ken didn't make Goku extremely more powerful they than came up with something called Ultra Instinct to make him more powerful than he already was. It's absurd for no reason. To have a legit continuity there has to be limitations and using the most powerful version of Flash or Superman doesn't seem close to realistic, the concept of these heros is making them extraordinary but without being omniscient that way they're more relatable.
If you look at the peak power level of Thor vs. Superman, Thor is literally unkillable, and Superman never transcends a physical form. As far as I'm concerned, Superman never exceeds the abilities of even the Silver Surfer, let alone Galactus. Marvel is also more based on reality and physics than DC, so their humble beginnings have more focus than their highest forms. DC has several "god" characters, but none as powerful as the top-tier characters in Marvel as far as I know (The One Above All).

The characters have evolved. At one point back in the 90’s they were pretty evenly matched before Final Crisis. Darkseid got elevated to abstract entity status and Thanos got nerfed.

Thanos is a universe destroyer power level but every Darkseid fought is nothing but a avatar with a small fraction of the real Darkseids power in one comic his real form falling over during a fight destroyed a universe.
You said Thanos is evil, he is not evil, he’s an enigma because he’s literally compassionate and discompassionate at the same time. He cares so much about creating an even balance that he’s willing to accomplish it by any means, even if that means killing off half. This is perceived as evil, but in his mind it’s justified, meaning he’s not doing unspeakable things for fun, he’s doing it because he truly believes it will make the universe a better place. He stated this many times over, in the movies anyways (I admit I don’t know too much about his canon in the comic books, but from the movies), he even cries doing bad things. He also said they wouldn’t feel any pain, meaning he was trying to do terrible things in the most compassionate way. Darkseid however is evil, he’s power hungry and enjoys doing bad things.
None of the darkseids we have seen are full power, they are avatars, a dim reflection of his true self existing outside of the DC universe as an abstract entity.
So this isn’t cinematic universe versus, like the thumbnail suggests. It’s a comic version versus. Well under those conditions of course Darkseid wins.

Thanos got the HOTU and killed the Living Tribunal with it. Darkseid got his ass beat by Doomsday AFTER hitting him with an omega blast. Darkseid was beaten by Batman using a pair of goggles. But yeah, you guys keep going with Darkseid beating Thanos.
It is not Marvel's fault if Thanos was written consistently well. and they let the creator Jim Starlin write him until MCU Thanos has a better track record than Dseid. Well, Box Officely speaking, Thanos pretty much made the MCU what it is as a Mega-Billion dollars smash hit, that all action directors and movie companies have tried to imitate to this day. While with Darkseid, he was relegated to just an unknown, forgettable flat character CGI villain, that never made even a triology hit smash in the DCEU. And forever buried the director, Zack Snyder and denied him the accolades he deserved for his work on Justice League. And subsequently dispersed all the actors and actresses related to the Darkseid DCEU plot. The result with massive fan distress of the famous stars being kicked off DCEU and and Warner Bros movie lots starting with Henry Cavill and the exodus of the rest of stars that followed down the DCEU toilet, and forever flushed by the new director, James Gunn. While Thanos elevated the career and gave more depth to one of the most iconic characters Josh Brolin ever played as well as created more stories, series and more interesting plot lines forever in Marvel comics and the MCU ever since and has not been recaptured yet to date. Character wise, only true devoted comic fans know Darkseid was elevated to higher levels beyond the New Gods levels of power. Barely anyone on the street knows that Darkseid has his unstoppable Omega Beams (which doesn’t exactly destroy his target but phases them out of current space and time far away from where they were struck). While everyone that has ever seen a Marvel MCU movies knows all about the Infinity Stones and Gauntlet, bought toys and imitations of the Glove itself for fun. While, I have yet to see any kid or fan know or brag about their Darkseid action figure or paraphernalia or even a hat or Funko figure. His character is still unknown to the public, much less memorable movie-wise (in a flashback 1st invasion of earth he was severely wounded by bolt of Zeus or Trident of Neptune), and undeveloped and thin layered comic-wise.

Thanos was, literally, created by Marvel to be their version of Darkseid. That said, there's no comparison between the two universes. DC is, by it's nature, WAY higher powered than Marvel. Just google 'How much can Superman lift?' and then 'How much can Thor lift?'... and then consider how often people argue about who'd win that fight. By comparison, Flash could single handedly beat Superman and the entire Justice League in less than a micro second if he let loose. The power levels in DC are so extreme that it's impossible to be consistent with them without running out of storyline very quickly. Marvel is as successful as it is because the power levels are low enough to write stories where the characters are challenged.
DC took the DragonBall Z route of just making their characters unbelievably too powerful. As if Super Saiyan Blue combined with Kai-O-Ken didn't make Goku extremely more powerful they than came up with something called Ultra Instinct to make him more powerful than he already was. It's absurd for no reason. To have a legit continuity there has to be limitations and using the most powerful version of Flash or Superman doesn't seem close to realistic, the concept of these heros is making them extraordinary but without being omniscient that way they're more relatable.
If you look at the peak power level of Thor vs. Superman, Thor is literally unkillable, and Superman never transcends a physical form. As far as I'm concerned, Superman never exceeds the abilities of even the Silver Surfer, let alone Galactus. Marvel is also more based on reality and physics than DC, so their humble beginnings have more focus than their highest forms. DC has several "god" characters, but none as powerful as the top-tier characters in Marvel as far as I know (The One Above All).
Thor isn't even the strongest adventure so I don't even know why you would compare him to Superman lol

The characters have evolved. At one point back in the 90’s they were pretty evenly matched before Final Crisis. Darkseid got elevated to abstract entity status and Thanos got nerfed.

You said Thanos is evil, he is not evil, he’s an enigma because he’s literally compassionate and discompassionate at the same time. He cares so much about creating an even balance that he’s willing to accomplish it by any means, even if that means killing off half. This is perceived as evil, but in his mind it’s justified, meaning he’s not doing unspeakable things for fun, he’s doing it because he truly believes it will make the universe a better place. He stated this many times over, in the movies anyways (I admit I don’t know too much about his canon in the comic books, but from the movies), he even cries doing bad things. He also said they wouldn’t feel any pain, meaning he was trying to do terrible things in the most compassionate way. Darkseid however is evil, he’s power hungry and enjoys doing bad things.
None of the darkseids we have seen are full power, they are avatars, a dim reflection of his true self existing outside of the DC universe as an abstract entity.
So this isn’t cinematic universe versus, like the thumbnail suggests. It’s a comic version versus. Well under those conditions of course Darkseid wins.

Thanos pretty much made the MCU what it is as a Mega-Billion dollars smash hit, that all action directors and movie companies have tried to imitate to this day. While with Darkseid, he was relegated to just an unknown, forgettable flat character CGI villain, that never made even a triology hit smash in the DCEU. And forever buried the director, Zack Snyder and denied him the accolades he deserved for his work on Justice League. And subsequently dispersed all the actors and actresses related to the Darkseid DCEU plot. The result with massive fan distress of the famous stars being kicked off DCEU and and Warner Bros movie lots starting with Henry Cavill and the exodus of the rest of stars that followed down the DCEU toilet, and forever flushed by the new director, James Gunn.
While Thanos elevated the career and gave more depth to one of the most iconic characters Josh Brolin ever played as well as created more stories, series and more interesting plot lines forever in Marvel comics and the MCU ever since and has not been recaptured yet to date.
Character wise, only true devoted comic fans know Darkseid was elevated to higher levels beyond the New Gods levels of power. Barely anyone on the street knows that Darkseid has his unstoppable Omega Beams (which doesn’t exactly destroy his target but phases them out of current space and time far away from where they were struck). While everyone that has ever seen a Marvel MCU movies knows all about the Infinity Stones and Gauntlet, bought toys and imitations of the Glove itself for fun. While, I have yet to see any kid or fan know or brag about their Darkseid action figure or paraphernalia or even a hat or Funko figure. His character is still unknown to the public, much less memorable movie-wise (in a flashback 1st invasion of earth he was severely wounded by bolt of Zeus or Trident of Neptune), and undeveloped and thin layered comic-wise.

Without final crisis the whole “true form” Darkseid thing falls apart. It has way more to do with Grant Morrison and “seven soldiers of victory” then it did with Jack Kirby’s fourth world.

Galactus isn't above Darkseid. The crossover which showcased this, did not show Full power Darkseid. More importantly Darkseid fought Anti-Monitor in his true form, that version of Anti-Monitor is stronger than Galactus
