I don't understand why this film is so underrated. It shows how veterans are left alone and don't receive the right help. It shows the importance of mental health and the horrors of addiction. I liked the style of the movie, like the music and the visual effects! Ciara and Tom were brilliant in it. I hope that more people will appreciate this film. You explained it perfectly!

This movie is absolutely extraordinary. The intense emotions there were, the work Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo has portrayed, I give it a 5 stars. And somewhat higher. Yes, of course there were intense themes and scenes that may trigger people, but if things trigger you, I just suggest you do not watch it. Based on a true story, this has brought the thoughts of real life people out there in the world, dealing with problems such as these.
The story brings everything put together, fitting like a puzzle piece. PTSD is real out there, substance addictions, breakdowns. Seeing Tom Holland playing Spiderman/ Peter Parker, this set of complex character emotions make everything seem unreal of what he did in Spiderman (in an AMAZING way). He isn't the Peter Parker set of emotional, actioned, characterized person you know- he's Cherry. He's Cherry in this film, dealing with real life problems/ issues that people need to know. I don't see the reason why people rated this film so low (not everyone). This film does have a story, emotions set of tones. Don't watch it if you get triggered easily with some stuff. Don't watch it and say, "1 star because lots of triggering scenes". It's a Rated-R movie, what did you expect?
The movie shows that there are actual people out there dealing with PTSD, drugs, hardships like this. It's not just one person. There are thousands out there, it's like this movie is telling everyone, "Bring attention" as it is. The movie just hits you, as if it's telling you to be aware that wherever you go, there will be at least 1 person in the world dealing with these hardships. Do not romanticize these characters, because they're dealing with abuse.

The acting. People who already saw Cherry praised the hell out of Tom and Ciara and boy are they right. Tom is brilliant. He gives his absolute best in every single scene. It’s especially noteworthy for 2 reasons. Tom admitted in the interview (if I remember correctly, it was the Variety Award Circuit podcast) to have had a very good life - he’s from a good, loving family so he has never gone through anything close to traumatic and so when he got the script, he was afraid he might not be convincing at conveying these hard, harrowing emotions that accompany PTSD such as mental breakdowns, feeling emotionally dumb, extremely distressed or angry outbursts. Second, he had very little to no knowledge about drug addiction and PTSD and he had to interview almost 30 veterans to educate himself on that matter. The convincing portrayal of Cherry’s character proves Tom’s incredible acting.
Ciara’s acting is just as fantastic as Tom’s. Her hopelessness, anger felt genuine. I wish I could name you scenes where she impressed me most, but I promised a spoiler-free review. Trust me, there’s tons of them.
Their chemistry is also what makes this movie amazing. Oftentimes in movies you can tell there is no chemistry between the actors, no matter how great their acting is, but not in this case. The characters are supposed to be very in love with each other and it shows, damn it does. To a point where me, the least romantic and least relationship-driven person on this planet was like ‘’aaaww I want that too’’.
I especially loved how the movie was slowing down in the 3rd act. Not going to tell you how, but it almost feels that way, as if to prepare you to get off the very intense ride. You can’t get off immediately otherwise you’ll fall down, the machine has to slow down first before you can step out.
Overall, it’s a great movie and if you can watch it, please do. You won’t regret this. It’s not a light-hearted movie for some comfy evening with your loved one, but it’s also not severely depressing to completely ruin your day. But one thing’s for sure, you will think about this movie after it’s over.

First off, SEE THIS MOVIE. I don't know why so many big and small platform reviewers are panning this one, but Cherry (2021) is REALLY GOOD. Second, it would benefit everyone to read the book first and I can practically guarantee 98 percent of the reviewers I've read slamming this movie did not. What I *think* the Russos and screenwriters were going for was ambitiously to make a FILM as you would a book. Thereby, pulling you into the ride the protagonist gives you as the first person narrator of the novel. And, I don't just mean that they have visuals in the movie where they list sections as chapters, I mean it FEELS like you're reading a book by watching it. I don't know how else to explain it, but if you see it and you recognize it, you'll know what I mean. Now, the movie cuts out and reworks parts of the novel events, but at almost 2 and a half hours as it is, this has to be seen as necessary. I also saw a review which recounted that the 2 main characters (Tom Holland as Cherry and Ciara Bravo as Emily) are so unlikable and all I can say is, you should have read how much MORE toxic, self indulgent, self destructive, hurtful and self sabotaging they were in the novel. They're far more sympathetic here in the film. Further, what a lot of reviewers missed by not reading the novel, is they fail to understand how deeply troubled and barely functioning (but putting on a semi-acceptable front) Holland's character is even before he enlists and heads to basic training and then Iraq, where all his mental issues expand and implode to work up into one giant volcano of PTSD ready to blow after he leaves the service.

    The movie is really good.
The pace is quiet slow at first, which initially might feel slightly boring, but you should just savor these moments as the plot dives into harsh and brutal reality of war and the aftermath in the form of severe PTSD and drug addiction.
The movie can be difficult to stomach for those who are uncomfortable or can be triggered by needles/drug use on screen. It feels very real that even I - a person who has almost no problem watching such scenes - felf uneasy. But I applaud Russos for showing the genuine side of drug addiction instead of sugarcoating it or, God forbid, romanticizing it.
Just like Ciara and Tom mentioned in the promo interviews, they had a nurse and consultant (former drug-addict) on set, who educated them on the real behavior and mindset of drug addicts so they could present the most accurate portrayal of people struggling with their addiction. And you can tell they really put the theory into their acting.
Based on the trailers, that show the protagonist going from a college student to a solider to an addict to a bank robber, I was worried the movie might get messy, the plot might be all over the place and hard to follow, but it’s not true. We spend enough time on each chapter of his life to experience it along with him, to feel the connection and why and how one chapter leads to another.

This movie is amazing! The acting done by Ciara Bravo and Tom Holland is amazing (definitely Oscar worthy). It such a step in the right direction for these actors, and Ciara will definitely be someone many directors will be wanting to work with from her role in this movie and acting ability will put her on their radars for sure. I hope to see Ciara in more movies she is very talented. Tom was also incredible! He is so talented and brought justice to his character (and so did Ciara). I highly disagree with people who say this movie is bad. The Russo Brothers did a amazing job directing and Producing this film. The Commitment the actors had was so amazing. I hope I could be as talented one day. Tom and Ciara's chemistry was amazing! Like I said highly recommend!

In this movie Tom Holland's acting really worth an OSCAR🏆. He got a MAJOR cast in this film. Acting like PTSD is no easy. He just nailed it. AWESOME.👌🏻 Never expected something like this from Spidy🕷🕸Parker#TOMHOLLAND. STRONG💪🏻acting .
In my opinion this could be the BEST CAST Tom Holland ever got. But unfortunately some UA-cam REVIEWERS are commenting HATES on this movie. I'm really sorry for THOSE IDIOTS💩💩. Cause they could have see the BRIGHT side of the movie. REVIEWERS DON'T UNDERSTAND how to direct a movie or to act cause they aren't DIRECTORS nor ACTORS though know how to note down all the CONS of the MOVIE and COPY another UA-camr and do there video. I REALLY LOVE THIS MOVIE not because I'm A REALLY BIG FAN OF TOM but it literally means how a life goes of PTSD. The film may be to long but if u just SURVIVE IT u CAN ENJOY A MUCH BETTER ENDING. 😉

I liked this film but I just feel like more should've happened. The acting is amazing but it seemed like they were trying to make a future classic dark film like seven. It's more of a life lesson and awareness spreader than an entertaining film

I remark on this here, because we as viewers have to understand we're seeing everything in the film through HIS filter, and his filter is deeply messed up. He's detached, nihilistic, and to his detriment, myopically in his own head far too much. WE are seeing things only as far as and in ways HE is seeing things. It's subtle, but it's there if you look. The Russos wonderfully convey some of this by slipping in things like changing the proper names of people and businesses to how he is looking at them - "The Bank," "Dr. Whomever," "Sgt. Whomever." His own uniform just says "Soldier." He isn't connecting with almost anyone or anything around him and feels like they think the same about him. He can't find many real threads of meaningful connection except with his girlfriend, then wife, Emily, and a few choice pals (some doomed) and his dog, who all have actual names. But, even with them, the threads are tenuous - he constantly chooses to buy drugs over dogfood, even his closest friends all have addiction and mental health issues and he and his wife devolve into spending all their couples time high, sick or trying to score. I think everyone in the movie put in great performances, in parts both big and small. Bravo and Holland really work and it pays off. However, I will say this - I think Bravo is a very, very good actress, but I had a hard time with how she looked about 13 for almost the entire film. It was a bit visually...off putting, may be the term I'm looking for, considering the subject matter and content of many of the scenes. I know she's a grown woman and her character is 18 when we're introduced to her, but she looks years and years younger and I think its a misstep here. In conclusion, ignore the negatives reviews and SEE IT. It's harrowing, but worth it.

Sadly that’s exactly how addiction works. You spend every single day trying to get money then the drugs. You are high and then back at it again. When there is no money or drugs you are sick. It’s a horrible existence that never ends.

Absolutely loved it! Great acting all around with impeccable performances from Tom Holland & Ciara Bravo (Oscar-worthy in my opinion)! This movie portrays the harrowing effects that war, ptsd, and drug addiction can have, while never glamorizing any aspect of them like so many films do. With that being said, it is a hard watch at times due to the incredibly raw & realistic portrayals of what life with ptsd is like for so many people. I thought the cinematography was beautiful and helped portray the story in such a unique way. I found it cool how Holland’s character broke the 4th wall at several points & liked his narration throughout the film. They were very engaging & effective in bringing the audience along on the journey with the character himself. Also loved how certain things were portrayed as the way he saw things, such as the unusual names of the banks & certain characters he meets throughout the film. I also enjoyed many of the stylistic choices made by the Russo brothers, such as using a different camera lens for each of the six chapters. For a 2 hour 20 minute movie with very intense subject matter, I found it thoroughly entertaining; there were even bits of humor at times. This is an eye-opening film that speaks about the opioid crisis & the trauma that so many veterans have gone through. ‘Cherry’ far exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it. Great movie.

wow, wow, wow! we loved it!
hard to find words to describe what i just watched. it's always a good sign when 2.5 hours seems like 20 minutes. i guess that's what movies are supposed to do.....take us away from it all. thrilling, engaging, always riveting and shocking at times, moving at others. normally the "swiss army knife" approach doesn't work, but this is a really complex life story to tell, and this movie moved seamlessly from all the things in each stage of the story. coming of age story, youthful love, childish hubris and the rash decisions that accompany that, war movie, trauma and ptsd, the opiod crisis, etc etc etc. you will literally laugh, cry, laugh, cry, and laugh again. what you won't do is leave your seat unmoved. we watched cherry in a proper cinema for the first time in a year and it was amazing. going to stream it and watch it all over again. there were quite a few scenes i want to really dig deep in for the superb cinematography and scenery.
if i could give this movie 6 stars, i would!
