Today we have a viewer request and it is to put the Akira Class against the Intrepid Class.
The Intrepid is going to have serious problems with the Akira's 15 Torpedo launchers, will the Intrepid's excellent manoeuvrability help?
Played from both sides in Star Trek Bridge Commander Remastered.

"How can you compete with that many torpedo launchers?". It is blindingly obvious and simple, just use an old Maquis trick. 60% of the time, it works every time.
The Akira had 15 MK 25 direct pulse fire each can fire 4 per second followed by 2.85 second recharge time.
The Intrepid class not Voyager had 5 type 4Mk 95 direct burst fire each can fire 12 torpedoes per second followed by a 5 second reload time these torpedoes are normally fired groups of 3 to four.
The Intrepid class was the fastest and most powerful until the Sovereign & Prometheus classes the Intrepid would win 1 to 1 faster, Multiphasic multispectrial shielding, 13 uprated type XF Phaser arrays, 5 type 4Mk95 torpedo launchers subsystem targeting capabilities Bio neural circuitry faster speeds in response time ect but it would be close.
And the Akira Class only matches 1 D'deridex class B type Advanced from the Telshiar.

Voyager should have more of an edge in speed and manoeverability. Akira should be somewhere between the Nebula and Intrepid.
Yes there is no contest there but the good thing about the Intrepid is that it can run away from almost anything with that ludicrous speed. :)

Are you sure? The Akira isn't that much newer than the Nebula.
@@claudedavid1729 Akira is more a tactical design, not as useful for exploration and kept close to the core Federation areas. Nebulas are far more versatile and can fill most roles and an excellent explorer.
It is pretty much a T-Cruiser.
The Intrepid class could reach Warp 9.986 for 12hrs in an emergency followed by auto engine shut down for a further 12hrs.
The Akira class is no slouch that's for sure. I mean for a ship that was designed to fight the Borg.... full 360 degree coverage for their weapons. Yeah that's a hard one to beat.
It's crazy how many torpedo launchers the Akira class has. Not surprised that armored Voyager beat the Akira with ONE transphasic torpedo.
Maybe put the Akira class up against the RBG Galaxy class refit.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm predicting a victory for the Akira. Voyager is just TOO squishy.

In my own head-canon the Akira class is to replace the Excelsior class in the fleet as the main line cruiser of the fleet doing all the grunt work inbetween the heavies ( Galaxy/Sovereign/Nebula/Ambassador ) and the smaller/ lighter vessels.
In Message in a Bottle - Voyager we see it withstanding firing from two D'Deridex warbirds in the opening volley. Tough ship to do that.
Indeed! It shows the power of the Akira if they sent it against 2 Warbirds. Something a Galaxy Class would have thought twice about. I like your idea of it replacing the Excelsior. Makes sense!
@@RetroBadgerGaming Well Picard was going to fight to get back the "Vulcan Ambassador" in Data's Day against two warbirds until the Romulan commander unveiled her as a spy(which is still important for the Federation to learn so they can go back and see what she had access to and make changes) and it was to quickly become 5 vs 1.

I really like the upside down NX. In fact, someone should make a model of an upside down NX and you can put a fleet of them against the Akira
The most apt commander for the Akira class would be a- Kira Nerys.

Just started the video and I'm gonna go ahead and say RIP, Voyager.
In terms of canon torpedo output, the akira can fire 60 torpedoes every 2 seconds, and 8 of them would be quantum’s

Balance scaling aside, the Intrepid is a Light Cruiser (reg cruiser at best), while the Akira is either a Heavy Cruiser or Battlecruiser😅
The Intrepid class was a Multimission explorer's build for exploration and combat evenly an earlier version of the Vesta class.
Rick Sternbach the ship designer clearly stated that fact.

However, it is still a light cruiser in navel terms, possibly cruiser designation.
However, the Akira is also a combat-focused design, and would outstrip the Intrepid in combat, in theory.
Please note, I'm not knocking on the Intrepid, I have no grievance with the class.😅

Could the TMP Excelsior defeat the Intrepid? I think it will be a challenge for the original Excelsior but perhaps it can be done. Would be great to see you attempt it!

When i look at the size of those impulse thruster on the pylons and the ones on the saucer section, then im surprised anymore that an Akira might have higher acceleration then an intrepid. I wonder how nasty an Akira would be if it had the two additional quantum torpedo launcher as Jaeger intended.

Let's also bear in mind that the Akira is a carrier - she was designed to carry a squadron of fighters as well as shuttles.
I love that Akira model. The torpedoes have a slightly different look to them, too.
In any normal battle, the voyager is a pretty tough nut to crack. When an Akira is involved however, it's never normal.
The best tactic against starships with superior firepower is to fly and attack in their blind spots

Not a surprising outcome. The Akira class is a combat oriented cruiser while an Intrepid is more an exploration oriented cruiser. Not to say that it doesn't have teeth, it just isn't its primary purpose. An Akira is more border patrol and defense, with exploration sometimes, as well as colony support.
That was like being in a shooting gallery for the intrepid.
If Voyager survived the Delta quadrant against impossible odds, I believe Janeway and her crew would've defeated the Akira on their own.

When I used to play Bridge Commander, it was relatively easy to destroy a Galaxy-class ship and similar vessels with an Akira-class. And if you target the impulse drive, the speed advantage quickly disappears
The Akira is a Heavy Cruiser, or a Heavy Torpedo Cruiser. The Intrepid is more of a Heavy Destroyer or Light Cruiser. The only way to prevail is to get in super tight on their ventral side so you put them between you and their launchers and make them beat you with their phasers, and on your dorsal vs. their ventral you have the phaser advantage. You have to stay out of their torpedo envelopes. Only way to win when completely outclassed.
They got stronger sugar alright. You can put it in your coffee or tea to wash down the bitter taste of defeat. 😉
I was thinking that the Voyager would do better, though not too surprised that it lost. By the way, what is the ship on your channel banner? It looks like an Excelsior with a different secondary hull and pylons.

This is sorta the problem. I mean you could just stick 4 times as many launchers on a frame and 1 shot everything in the Star Trek universe. There is no reason the entire edge of the saucer section wasn't just torpedo launchers.
Limited power for torpedo launchers maybe
I do t know if it is something in the remaster, but I found when this game came out, each type of ship had a specific weakness in the sub systems. They ended up being the Achilles heels of the ships. It’s possible that the intrepid could be victorious over the Akira if you find that subsystem to target.

The Akira has always been my favorite Federation class starship. I remember in the original Star Trek Bridge Commander PC game that the Akira had quantums.

The Akira is a warship, the Intrepid is for exploration.
An Akira survived the battle of 001... until the Borg went back in time and tried to stop first contact. Except that just allowed the Enterprise E crew to help prepare the Phoenix for launch... which probably happened the "first" time. 😆😆

I just call the First Contact (1996) battle the battle of 001.

How can you compete with that many torpedo launchers? Well, target the torpedo pod and hope you can disable the launchers before they rip you to shreds

Would like to see what a New Orleans could do. I’ve always imagined the NO as the true predecessor to the Akira with all those torpedo launchers it packs. Still think the Akira wins easily though.
As much as I love the Intrepid class, it is no match for an Akira class. The only way the Intrepid could realistically win is if it was armed with quantum torpedoes.
Or plot armor.
When people say Intrepid Class I have a strong feeling like they are talking about the Voyager that returned from the Delta quadrant. I don't think anyone things it is a match for the Akira with out the crazy future armor.. I don't think I am wrong in this one at all. All of the Intrepid Class fights should be redone as the Voyager that returned at the end of the show.

This Akira is just way too fast and maneuverable here. Its shields also seem a little bit too strong in my opinion.
Akira was built for war, Intrepid for exploration.

And Why would Vice Admiral William Ross had chosen the Belerathon an Intrepid class Multimission Starship during the Dominion war as his flagship.
The Akira's a dedicated warship, while the Intrepid is a reasonably well-armed science vessel. It's like a jacked-up gangbanger fighting a nerd who hits the gym on the weekend.
i like the akira, but i don't think the values are accurate. the intrepid class has firepower comperable to a galaxy class in a more compact agile ship. according to the makers os the ships. so while i do think the akira would win. i don't think it would be so one sided. also intrepids can carry quantums
Yes, I've hard that before. Something to do with the Intrepid's phasers being as powerful as the Galaxy Classes, but in a smaller form factor. Indeed about the quantams! In fact I have a ship on gamefront called the RBG Intrepid Class. It has quantum torpedoes. I envisioned it as a Dominion War upgraded version. As I'm sure you know the Intrepid was always designed to take Quantum's with certain modifications. Definitely a war like ship underneath!
The Akira is a Heavy Escort whereas the Intrepid is a Long Range Science vessel. It never stood a chance! 😂
How would the Intrepid class fare against a Nebula class? I'd say it would be an even match. The Intrepid might even have the advantage.
In Starfleet Command 3 the Intrepid is a light cruiser and the Nebula is a heavy cruiser so the Nebula would wipe the floor with an Intrepid just based on being able to equip better shields and more weapons.

I think it would depend on the Nebula type. The Sensor Variant could be an even match. However its shields would be powerful. The weapon pod variant would be too much for Voyager I think 🖖
@@RetroBadgerGaming look up the Intrepid class design linage by Rick Sternbach I would send the pictures to you but I think I would probably violate copyright by the way the Official Star trek Website states despite her small size the U.S.S Voyager was one of the fastest and most powerful ships in the fleet.

The Intrepid has been cruelly nerfed in BC Remastered. There should be at least a 6 torpedo salvo fore, using on screen Voyager as a reference. An Excelsior shouldn't really be a match for it.

I'm a little behind on my ST: Voyager recaps. But I believe the 🚂 Steam 🚂 Runner Class was supposed to have them...If I remember correctly, the SteamRunner Class was considered a long to medium range "Artillery grade Tactical Starship". It was supposed to bombard the enemy with large amounts of Photon Torpedoes and Tri-Colbalt Warheads...I believe Star Trek Armada had some technical information ℹ️ on this class and another Trek game...(can't remember, must be old age...)

Is it a TNG era ship or a ds9 era ship? It came out during furst contact and i dont think it eas ever oart of TNG. It was in the dominion war.
An early Akira prototype was actually in the Battle of Wolf 359.

how would the akira class do in the delta quadrant?
In any given encounter I'd say that the Akira would be better, but over the course of 7 years.... even odds? The Akira would REALLY need to learn how to make more torpedoes (like Voyager did, but better) to keep up with it's threat ability. I think the Intrepid class was also much less of a maintenance hog, and could go longer without drydock time. Then you need to remember than Voyager outran a lot of what it couldn't fight. This would be more of an issue for an Akira. Also, a few times Voyager had physically land on a planet, something the Akira couldn't do. Also Akiras weren't quite as nice inside, so crew fatigue would have been more of an issue.

The Akira also has a very large hangarbay and houses a bunch of shuttles, runabouts or fighter craft - that would come in very handy in the Delta Quadrant.
Now THIS balancing feels accurate. Many games and mods seem to brutally overestimate the Intrepid class. It's a smaller, very fast reconnaissance ship (or as Starfleet likes to sell it: science vessel), the Akira is basically a huge Starfleet Bird of Prey with that catamaran design. Way more of a warship.
It's not a science ship. It's a light cruiser, designed as a small, versatile, long range workhorse type Explorer, but designed to be much faster to build, with fewer resources, requiring far fewer crew than the larger ships. Perfect for a Borg or war era. Tom Paris actually stated in the epsidode The Thaw, that Voyager was "built for combat performance."
You don't send science ships to hunt down the maquis, nor equip them 14 type X phaser banks, and load them with mega weapons like the tricobalt devices.
Anything that kills an intrepid class ship I’m in favor of.

When one ship is so badly outclassed like that, there's 0 point of playing at the other way around..... it doesn't matter who requested it. The point is moot. And it just wastes time
