Comedians are often very intelligent and educated people. You have to be. If you’re not well read, if you’re not fast.... people will not take you seriously.
Yup! I've seen some episodes before that he would fill-in for Max when he's not available. I remembered they killed time by making fun of Wormworth because he drums barefoot. Also, Conan points out that Wormworth's small toe was strangely 'sideways'. LOL!
That's what's so funny. They're kinda saying it's his last night in a way of like "this is sad, we'll miss you". Cut to 20 years later and Worm has not only continued to be the fill in drummer but joined the band full time for The Tonight Show.
When they initially went to the Tonight Show I believe Wormworth was added as an additional percussionist, as they had a bigger budget and could keep him on as a full time member of the band. As it came out that Weinberg never truly moved to LA, it was probable that they sort of knew Max was going to leave at some point. The cancellation, the tour and move to TBS just served as an easy out for Max early.
Fun fact: Who Wants to be a Millionaire asked Conan if he wanted to make an appearance. He wanted to, but NBC didn't allow it due to Millionaire being on a competitor network.
classic conan aka the tonight show, was in a category of its own. you would wait for jay leno to be over to watch the main event conan. NBC is a weird ass company, jimmy fallon is not a conan what so ever, the late show of today isnt the late show of yesterday, 2ndly i havent watched the tonight show sence jay leno got it back, embassy fucked everything up, shit the more i think about it nbc should of left the original late night with conan alone, so lesson here dont shit were you eat
"you would wait for jay leno to be over to watch the main event conan" Spot on. As a kid, I would stay up late just so Conan would get on. Sometimes I would be freaking beat because I just didn't stay up that late for almost any reason, but Conan's show was always worth it. I've always preferred him and I have never liked Jay Leno. He may have gotten the better guests a lot of the time (like Robin Williams), but on his own, he was a boring entertainer. Craig Ferguson I started to really appreciate as well, to the point that I watched him more than Conan, but part of it was because eventually I couldn't get NBC where I lived due to the cable provider we were using. Now I watch Conan through UA-cam. Old clips, new ones, etc. Doesn't matter. He's still as good as he used to be (in fact he's better if you look exclusively at his remotes). I'll never grow tired of him.
This is so true. I discovered Conan around age 13 and thought it was the best. For the next many years, I had zero interest in that Leno guy, But if I could make it till 12:30 it was like a special occasion and I was never disappointed
oh my god this is old, never knew that Conan was on air this long (I'm from Croatia btw. and I don't get to watch american shows, so I have to wach them here on youtube :)) Cheers
And Andy's great too! I'm sad I grew up watching Conan without Andy for the most part (a few years before he left, and ever since he's been back of course, but there was more of a gap than not)
Max had some health issues (heart problems) and probably missed living in NJ, so he decided not to continue with Conan. Plus, he has the Bruce gig and other stuff to keep him busy.
On the subject of game shows, I think it was around 2010 that Andy actually taped a pilot for hosting a revival of "The $25,000 Pyramid". Unfortunately it didn't sell. The celebrities in the unsold pilot were Mo Rocca and Aisha Tyler.
lol , man I was watching this show on the regular back in '99-'03 and I remember when Max wasn't able to play and James was filling in, man I'm getting old!
he's in the part where they're trying to think of a new book and he says, "how about there's this tribe of asparagus and they're self conscious about the way their pee smells". I'm not sure if that's the exact line but it's something similar to that
Someone should use this clip to correct Conan when he said he would've answered Freddy Krueger for that jeopardy question. Friday the 13th was Jason Voorhees not Freddy Krueger.
Yeah! Conan was Andy's sidekick since the beginning of him hosting Late Night (early 90s)... Then he left for a long while to pursue other projects and then came back as sidekick when Conan became host of the Tonight Show for those six short months, and stayed with him when he moved to his current show on TBS!
@ConanVIDS do you have thet '99 jeopardy? I saw the bit on Late Night about Andy Prepping for it, but i missed the "Jeopardy" episode. Andy beat the hell out of the others; 14,000 more then 2nd place.
He was always with the E-Street Band while having Conan's show as a side-gig but, yes, he does seem to not be dividing his time anymore to Conan which is a shame.
It would have been nice if they could have had Conan appear really with Regis on the millionaire set and have a bit of fun with the sketch. ABC probably would not have allowed it?
I remember back when Who Wants to be a Millionaire was popular, they asked Conan to be on the show. Conan wanted to go, but NBC wouldn't allow him to since Millionaire was on ABC...
What do you mean? Andy was there at the very beginning in 1993. He was one of the first writers hired and then when testing, they realized he would make a good sidekick with Conan (good chemistry) and Conan was nervous and needed someone sitting next to him. Then, he left in 2000 to pursue an acting career. He rejoined Conan for The Tonight Show in 2009 and has been with Conan since. You need to brush up on your Conan history, my friend. :)
These two are some of the smartest guys on TV and they act like fools for comedy.
Victor Charlie you should be smart to be a comedian
The fool is the only allowed the tell the truth.
Victor Charlie clearly you don't understand comedy.
Comedians are often very intelligent and educated people. You have to be. If you’re not well read, if you’re not fast.... people will not take you seriously.
they may seem like they are being foolish but in reality they are being very smart about what they do and say
andy used to be so shy compared to now lol
Justin Allen Maybe he was high, he keeps rubbing his leg awkwardly
+Radi cal Larry (Radical Larry) thats what you call being Nervous
+Max or beeing on drugs ...
@Gi-Gi-Gi-Gia Camole lol wtf
Gave the show more laidback feel and I always preferred the old latenight. Better skits too because of the low budget made them more creative.
hehe that temporary drummer is now the drummer on Conan on TBS
team c0co
The Worm playing barefooted
yep I guess that's life. you never know how it brings you about to your destination
always liked wormy better than weinberg
He was part of the Tonight Show (with Conan) since Max did only Late night
Conan could've been the new drummer, he already composed quite a good song on the table.
Lmao.
lmao gold
HAHA
Conan has had the same coffee cup for 16+ years..
DontGetBoard Such loyalty to his...coffee mugs!
+Sam Garcia k. don't be stupid. the one Steve smashed was a duplicate made.
He never washed it because the taste keeps getting BETTER!
If it isn't broken, don't throw it away...
Some gave it to him as a gift for getting the show he's kept it ever since
Conan slapped his hand on the desk 25 times during this video lmfao. 😂😂
25? more LIKE FUCKING 100 TIMES
ocd is a bitch
Awesome Person na its lmfao
He did like combos with his 5 fingers
From what I counted it was 42
OH my god, the interim drummer is the drummer now
Yup! I've seen some episodes before that he would fill-in for Max when he's not available. I remembered they killed time by making fun of Wormworth because he drums barefoot. Also, Conan points out that Wormworth's small toe was strangely 'sideways'. LOL!
Kiddomike
I remember that now!! :)
That's what's so funny. They're kinda saying it's his last night in a way of like "this is sad, we'll miss you". Cut to 20 years later and Worm has not only continued to be the fill in drummer but joined the band full time for The Tonight Show.

And now Conan has no band at all.
Andy fidgeting with his tie after the Jeopardy clip is so cute
"I was a bed wetter"
"The pressure kinda got to me"
**slaps hand on face**
Wilburgur you cheeky fuck
i love how conan keeps smacking the table
It was really bad when he first got married. So loud!
I don't think he knows he's even doing it tbh. Like a subconscious thing?
Andy beating Wolf Blitzer on Jeopardy was a thing of beauty.
they had to give wolf points to get him to the final round🤣😂
Fun fact: Who Wants to be a Millionaire asked Conan if he wanted to make an appearance. He wanted to, but NBC didn't allow it due to Millionaire being on a competitor network.
piplh wait so why was Andy allowed?
piplh Actual Fact: NBC's full of bullshit aka Jerk
@@shinlee5264 amen
@@thefamouscommenter Jeopardy! was a syndicated show for the entire Trebek run and onward.
There's something so nice about this, it shows how long they've been bros together for
He learnt after some years... how not to TAP on the desk all the time.
+darkgaze bILL mAHER STILL CLAPZ.
Lol as I read this, he tapped his hand on the desk three consecutive times in a span of 4 seconds.
also how not to shake a leg at all time and not to picking his ear
I do that too with my leg though and after looking it up it *might* be restless leg syndrome?
I can't notice anything else now so thanks.
Andy's "Yeah, mhmm" has never changed.
❤❤❤ he's a Chicago boy through and through, lol
conan's money went to charity, too. a stripper named charity.
where do i find this charity
@@kaizoku4385 In a strip club called money laundering.
To be fair, she earned it
he seems so much happier here :(
JUST
Andy and Conan are both amazing. But together they are legends :)
this clip put a huge smile on my face, thanks for uploading it
He's the drummer now. That's awesome
It's funny because Conan graduated from Harvard, so he probably did know that answer.
With a major in American History too, yeah pretty safe to say he knew...
it is Ben Franklin for everyone wondering
GamesCourier final answer?
You're supposed to get that in fourth grade, not university.
What do you mean? He got the answer right. It’s Conan is a moron
I know conan's tall but his body is really far away In relation to his knee when he's at his desk.
It's so crazy how even though this was aired over 14 years ago it's still the funniest thing today. Damn Conan, your comedy is timeless.
Holy Crap James hasn't aged a bit!
wow.. 1999, and conan still makes me laugh..
So young!
Irrational Man "There are two types of men in this world my friend, those with loaded guns... And those who dig, you dig."
Irrational Man Too young and clever, Eileen.
Conan's hair really has gotten bigger over the years!
It's also funny that Andy Richter grossed 3x the amount several years later, against Wolf Blitzer
+Joey Lamontagne some say Wolf never fully recovered from that legendary ass kicking...
The Rush reference is pure gold, thank you Conan and Andy!
Mr. Knowledge would be Jordan Schlansky
The Golden Era of Conan
This clip of Conan on the game show …. Is hilarious. love it ❤️
Andy is Jordan Schlansky's secret mentor.
Damn James Wormworth's been filling in for a long time now. He must be happy to finally be a permanent fixture on Conan.
they haven't changed much
zawette except the fact Andy looked much different than today
And that he doesn't tap on his desk and look nervous as fuck
nothing changed. BUT MAN DOES HE SMACK THAT DESK!
I'm here to win a million bucks old man!
It's Cool That James's Back on Conan's(no Longer)New Show
I was expecting them to cut to a funny sketch of andy being on jeopardy but then it was a real clip of him being on jeopardy. what a twist
When he said "I am a bed better" at the end, I almost spit my coffee out 😅🤣

thats because NBC along with others are dumbing things down!
Agreed. Fuck NBC.
That is actually what I did growing up, it was like fuck off Leno, I had him on mute until Conan came on.
"you would wait for jay leno to be over to watch the main event conan"
Spot on. As a kid, I would stay up late just so Conan would get on. Sometimes I would be freaking beat because I just didn't stay up that late for almost any reason, but Conan's show was always worth it.

"celebrity jeopardy is the short bus of jeopardy".....20 yrs later, the world has changed, but i still found it funny.
What does this even mean? Stay in school, kid.
Holy, he hasn't aged a day...
comedians.... They laugh all day. No stress. Be a comedian.
Also, make-up works wonders.

oh my god this is old, never knew that Conan was on air this long

how many times did conan hit his hand on the desk
Sixteen times on camera, twenty plus off camera!
Your desk isn't a drum Conan XD
Everyone always pronounces Peart's name incorrectly
And Andy's great too! I'm sad I grew up watching Conan without Andy for the most part (a few years before he left, and ever since he's been back of course, but there was more of a gap than not)
Andy crushed the other two contestants.

I've always liked Andy (and it's my middle name)... and that he at least knows of Rush (and is possibly a fan?) makes me like him even more... :)
That drummer's is on Conan's TBS show now.
I remember the early days of that show when things were much slower and people could take up as much time as they wanted on the answer.
Andy looks so young and fresh whattt
It's nice for James to return and work for conan xP
