- Rocky Linux can easily replace CentOS IN-PLACE using a great migration script which I demonstrate in this video. In this example I have a basic web server running in CentOS, and then I migrate it over to Rocky.
See the Rocky installation video here: • Rocky Linux 8.3 RC Ins...
Get the script here: github.com/rocky-linux/rocky-...

The Rocky team pointed out the issue I had at the beginning was that I should have used "bash" instead of "sh" when running the script. Indeed using bash worked without errors. My bad :) Cheers!
what happened to this guy, the way he explains helps me so much
Thanks! I'm still around. Real life got busy so I just took a little break :)
@@Doriandotslash completely understandable :) i hope you come back soon
Saw a comment about you becoming a father! Congratulations :D
Hope to see you once everything is settled :D
Ah, I was wondering where he had gone !
This is great news! Can't wait to start testing with some of our solution partners-- thanks so much for posting!
I was just about to comment on what happened since you haven't uploaded anything in so long. Then I read your other reply that you just became a father.
Congratulations! :)
Thank you! We also just bought a house and moved in last week so it’s been very crazy. I’m still setting up my new computer room…
@@Doriandotslash hey! i just saw this. i know I'm a bit late by now, but still, congratulations! i really hope your family is doing well man, i wish you the best wishes! your how to install gentoo linux really helped me install it for the first time, thanks a lot man
Can’t wait for full release! I’m going to live my productions servers to rocky as soon as rocky is stable. Probably start testing this script in the next week or so and getting excited lol
Great video, probably I'd try to migrate it to my CentOS 7.9 running on Azure to Rocky Linux. My 11 years ago favorite Linux was CentOS
A video with really great sound and clear speaking ! Wow !!
Thank you very much! I've purchased a few good microphones over the years to get the best sound, and I use noise removal software as well. Always trying to improve though, because I also enjoy clear audio in videos :)
This is amazing engineering. Thanks for sharing!

Dorian? Can you do a video on understanding and harness Samba, NFS, FTP and basic file sharing etc? Mainly focused around Ubuntu/Mint?
I am running some old Dells with some old RAID controllers that aren't supported by default in CentOS8. I had to add the ELRepo so that when it does a kernel update it will always go and grab the raid drivers and put them in the kernel. Otherwise I could manually install that driver when I loaded the OS but anytime there was a kernel update it would crash things bad! Will this keep my EL Repo in tact. It look like the EL Repo does say it supports Rocky Linux. I have a Raid 1 for my my OS Volume. I am thinking about pulling one of the drives before the upgrade. That way I can re-install it by itself and boot the server back to where it was if it all goes wrong.
When your run the script, does Rocky come up with the desktop only? I running Centos 8 Minimal on a headless setup for my Plex media server. Just curious if the script will work and not bring up a desktop environment. Thanks, -Tony and also thanks for the video. Going to have to give this a shot. Again Thanks
Ever thought of making a video explaining all the components of systemd ? Similar to the one you made on the filesystem structure ?
Perhaps, but systemd is pretty complex, and the components really vary from distro to distro. But services using different init systems would be a good one.
@@Doriandotslash Yeah you don't have to use any of the systemd components but you can't uninstall them either. You can switch to systemd boot on any distro for example. systemd vs openrc vs runit vs s6 would be interesting too.
O que aconteceu? Por que você não posta mais vídeos?
Hope all is well. Been a few months since your last video.
would you be inclined to make a video about how you make animations and edit videos on linux? I've only ever used blender for video editing, but I always think to myself, "there simply has to be a better video editor", and yet every time I looked in the past, I came up mostly empty-handed. Also, I wouldn't have any idea what to use for 2-D animations. Thank you.
Hello Dorian, I'm a Mac user but I think I will go for Linux. I wanted to ask you to do a video how to choose a Linux. And more important maybe which Linux to avoid. I like the simple approach on Mac even I know scripting and command lines. I would like to see a video that tells me what to consider before start using Linux the first time. Thank you.
oh this is great news...am just waiting on what cpanel decides to use and i hope its Rocky
same performance i hope, good for the centos user now and in the future.
They are both built from RHEL so the performance should be identical. :)
Can i use HP Laser Jet 1005 MF Printer on it ?
Rocky is more suited to servers. For printer support, you should use Fedora (which is the upstream of Rocky).
bor, its been 4 months since the last upload, where you at
My wife and I had a baby so it’s been pretty busy between him and the toddler. I’m still working on things, I just don’t have that much time right now. But soon!
@@Doriandotslash understandable
New viewer here.. new video soon? Or it's another dead channel...!?
Not a dead channel. Just took a break 😁
Where are you man? 😢
On Reddit (same name).
@@sonphantrung THANK YOU
what happened to you sir? It's been a while since I recorded a video for the channel.
Life got busy, but I will be back
@@Doriandotslash nice! Cant wait, any more Gentoo vids?
I look forward to it! 👑@@Doriandotslash
Will this convert Red Hat 8.x?
Perhaps if you tweak the script it might. The script checks for the CentOS version, so you’d have to change that or just remove the checks.
Using GUI text editor for editing script? really? use vim instead x)
Vim is not installed in all distros by default, so I just used the graphical editor because I knew it showed line numbers. But regardless, to just comment out a line, it doesn't really matter what editor is used...
Dear Dorian,
Following up your flatpack video here: ua-cam.com/video/GkgPIJp8_30/v-deo.html
please would you like to make one about snappy format, to better understanding differences? Thanks, whatever!
Did he die?
No. His Reddit account (with the same name) is quite active.
dorian dot slash come back plz
centos2rocky.sh has been deprecated in favor of the new migrate2rocky script, please use migrate2rocky.sh instead now, and yes, it needs to be run under bash, not sh as well (even moreso than centos2rocky did).
