Wow, this was seven years ago. I am new to this hobby. I purchased a couple of dolls that I had been admiring so I could have something to use as examples to give myself some kind a guide for when I buy some kits to try my hand at painting. I've watched two or three other videos, but I definitely learned more about color details from this video. Thank you.
I got my Nu-Wave oven, and used it yesterday. I put a layer of acrylic paint flesh color, diluted with a lot of distilled water, using a LOT of my air dry varnish. (More than I usually use of the varnish). It came out great. The next 2 layers of paint went on very nicely, leaving a nice "matte" finish. I plan on using the oven again on the very last coat of thin paint with lots of air dry varnish (Plaid glass & tile medium). I like the way the finish is (very matte) so far.
Thank you so much for this video. I have wanted for a long time to reborn with my granddaughter. I am disabled on S.S. and a very limited budget. I was thrilled to see I could use the acrylic paints. It may take me months to afford even the discounted kits from Bountiful Baby, but I am working on an Ashton Drake doll she had. Taking her glued on hair off was the hardest part! I need to get her a new body, since this one is weighted down with sand. So I need to get a new body and glass beads etc for this one before I can even think about purchasing a kit. When I priced everything I would need going with the Genesis heat set, my husband rolled his eyes. Since my medications and things cost so much, I can afford this way a little better without hurting our family budget. So it was a very helpful video. I will be referencing it in the future. My plan is to work on the Ashton Drake and each month perhaps, purchase paints, brushes, etc. This is not a sob story, just an explanation as to why I may be asking more questions in the future. You a so very sweet and patient. God bless you, Michele

Raelei Romero Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I have a quick question. What colors of paint did you find necessary? I am wondering what I need to buy to start out as a beginner. Also, what brushes did you need? The video didn't name exactly which ones you needed. Thank you for your time!
Hi sorry for the late response.. but colors i seem necessary, Red light and dark, blues, mint, pink, skintone, white, brown ( if you want to put hair and eyes brows ) and i just bought a big brush set from Wal-Mart it was easier for me :) thanks for the questions
Yes it does. Thanks so much for the information. I’m driving into this craft. Everyone seems to feel I’ll be good at it so I’m taking a stab at. I’ll keep you posted. I currently have a beautiful reborn that I purchased but ll my friends said I was foolish because they said I could have made my own. We’ll see..... Thanks greatly appreciate all you knowledge. Take care...😚
Yes, I do all those things after flesh tone. I add as many layers of flesh tone mixed with various other colors as needed. I use watery washes if the color is too orange or too blue (using the opposite color on the color wheel). I add layers after the mottling, veining, creasing and shading too. I try to achieve a translucent skin tone with lots of undertones for realism. I like the hands and feet to be a "warm" color like the lips. I study human flesh a lot, to see where the blues, purples, yellows, greens, browns, and other colors are! Hope this helps. Sharon
I wish I was young when I started. Now I'm getting old and my fingers have arthritis, but I'm never giving up, because even with this, every reborn I do gets even better! I wish you all the best. Stay in touch. Blessings, Sharon x0x0
Excuse my ignorance. What other brands besides FolkArt carry the glass medium? Or what other names does it have? I ask because currently it is sold out and the company (Plaid) isn't shipping either. Thank you so much! Greetings from Mexico!
Folk Art Outdoor Sealer Matte is also good. Other than that, I would only recommend Genesis Thinning medium and Genesis Matte Varnish but you would need to bake that layer at the end in a Nu-Wave oven - let the vinyl cool and re-bake. You can use the heat set products with acrylic paints. I have done that many times with success.
Is this any kind of craft acrylic paint that you use and then mix with distilled water and the glass and tile medium to make it stick to the viny? Or is it a specific type of acrylic paint used for reborning?
hi there I'm just about ready to start my reborn I have already put my mint wash on sorry I'm using special care nursery air dry paints....... the starter kit .with the premixed paints for creases nails lips ect ..? I also have matt varnish , textured skin tone motto lingerie premixed and a free gift of milk spot for nose 👌 I've watched hundreds of videos on how to reborn but I've yet to see one that shows me in which order I add each layer of paint and should I put my textured skin tone medium with every layer of paint I add can you direct me on a part 1 to end of reborning your reborn many that x I have saved this video as reference if that's OK? thanx for your consideration for beginners like my self on a budget at £30 per vynal kit I want 2 make as few mistakes as possible...... is there even an ebook from kindle I could download as I watch😊 many thanx and gd luck in ur amazing venture Rosemarie x
I thank you for watching my tutorial. There are lots of tutorials out there but not as many like mine - especially using my own blend of acrylic paint and mediums. My final layer is Genesis Thinning Medium applied on a cosmetic wedge that has the top torn off for more texture. I bake it on a Nu-Wave oven at power level 6 for 10 minutes - let vinyl cool and re-bake. Hope that helps. I am here to answer any questions - always! Sharon x0x0
Butterfly Baby Kisses Nursery hi and thank you 4 ur response when using air dry paints do you add a skin texture layer in between each painting layers ? ....... I was advised air dry paints didn't need 2 be baked thank for that
I add folk art glass & tile medium with distilled water and my acrylic colors for every layer. I bake the Genesis Thinning Medium (I use this as a matte/texture medium) at the end only. This makes a nice, matte, realistic and permanent surface. Hope this helps.
No I don't add a texture between layers. Correct, air dry paints used the way they are instructed by me and by pre-mixed air dry paint companies do NOT need to be baked. But I do it.
Thanx 4 much 4 ur patients I'm hat starting out and a bit of a stickler wen it comes 2 doing something in the same order I did hate 2 apply being first then realise that this is the first layer after washing (mint in my case) so shut I add sum Matt varnish with my paint and detailing color 2 adhere?
I use a script liner that is actually for nail art. It has long and thin bristles. The bristle is about 1-1/4" long. I got them from ebay. They came in a 3 pack. One had a blue handle, one a red, and one a green. Hope this helps. Sharon
I’m enjoying going back and discovering your old videos as I learn to reborn! Do you know an alternative to E6000 for gluing magnets in the head for pacifiers? I prefer not to use E6000 since it’s cancer causing and I have chronic health issues. Would Gem Tac work?
Gem Tac is used to glue hair inside the head and to put applied eyelashes on open eyed babies. I don't know of any alternative to E6000 for gluing magnets. Sorry. Try googling it. Maybe a rubber cement that is odorless? I don't know.
hi there just about ready to start my 1st reborn with air dry paints can u tell me what the washes ( blue mint ect are for why do you need there and do u put it on after or before the flesh color ? and do you use certain washes for the certain reborns this is all that confuses me thank you so much for your help
You only need a "wash" if the baby's paint is coming out a color that you think is too extreme. If the baby is too pink/peach, you use mint green to correct. If the baby is too blue/purple, you use a yellow/orange to correct. That is the only reason. I personally like to use a watered down blue/purple color as part of the underlying flesh tone. This gives the baby a realistic look, but it has to be very thin and barely noticeable. Human skin has lots of different subtle hues to it - blues, purples, yellows, greens, and reds. That's the art behind reborning. Hope this helps. Sharon
Butterfly Baby Kisses Nursery thank you so much 4 ur explanation I have special care nursery starter kit paint but afraid I didn't get a leaflet on how 2 use them in order so am I correct in saying you add the wash before you put the flesh tone on ? ... wish me luck lol 🙈
Black cherry red, blue, and a little purple. I end up using a final coat of red in the creases under the eye, sometimes a brick red, and sometimes a cherry red depending on the overall color of the baby.
Can you paint the lips without the gloss and then at the end of you painting the reborn getting the final touches can you put clear nail polish over the lips and fingertips
I have tried that once and it does not look good. Honestly, I haven't tried anything to gloss except Genesis Air Dry Gloss, and I'm running out of it, and can't find it anywhere. I bought a new product, a 'dries clear' type of glue, and I'm a bit afraid to try it. I have heard people use Aileen's paper glaze. Maybe you should try that. It's available at craft stores or ebay.
Hi Sharon,it's Beth. You've been helping me a lot. I just wanted to tell you. After my 4 various layers and shades of flesh. I did my first motteling layer. And WOW. it totally brought this baby to life!! I impressed myself. Lol...I did veins on the head. But not on the limbs yet. They are hard. No idea where they go. Newborn veins are different than my 63 yr old veins. Haha. I'm glina start the creasing. I'm going to send you a photo when it's done. It's going to be bald unless I try to paint or pencil hair. Going to root eyelashes. I have an art background so I'm comfortable with a lot of the aspects. I thought snout buying cheap women's false eyelashes and root and trim down. Whats your thought on that? You so very helpful to me and I appreciate it so much!!! Thank you p.s. I also to needle felting with wool would this needles work on hair routing? They have barbs on them tho..
Yes, a felting needle would work to root hair. The drug store fake lashes look too thick and have too dark of a line. I would go to Bountiful Baby when you have enough things to buy from them since their shipping is $14.95 flat rate.
What size clothes do you recommend for a 20" baby. I got my kit from Amazon, its nice its not orange. Of course it's not an artist kit from bountiful baby. I will buy from them ( I already know I want the Eden kit) but being my first one. I didn't wanna dive into a good artist kit. Kit says she will be 20"" but her head and body look smaller. Thanks in advance!
Hii love Your videos love Your Babies .I have a question for You please I got all my acrylics paint want to do a reborn .I can't not afford to buy one so that's why I will love to do my own....The question I have for You is about the Glass & Tile Medium and the Floating Meduim ? Can I use the Floating Meduim or what please answer Me Thank You !!
Thanks for the tips and showing how you paint the reborns. I need advice iv painted the head of a kit and its way to light how can I nringbto a lifelike color? Thank you
Will this work? I only have regular acrylic paint, but I do have the medium and distilled water. If I get my reborn wet will the paint come off? She is a full body unpainted vinyl.
Skin tone, blushing & creases, veins, more skin tones, mottling, undertones, and more skin tones, followed by matte varnish. It takes many layers of all of these steps to achieve the desired color.
I'm a beginner and have a practice baby I'm going to work on but can i ask do i need the glass and tile medium to mix into the acrylic paint and distilled water or can i just mix distilled water and acrylics and spray with matt varnish when done or does this affect the way the reborn looks at the end
@@lifewithsharonb5138 okay i understand, could i get your opinion on this. so do u think judt the distilled water and paint with a spray of mat varinsh at the end would work?
Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer. I mix a little of it in with each batch of color & water, and I use it alone at the end to give it a bit of texture and reduce shine. You can purchase this product on ebay or on Folk Art's website.
Do you paint the skin tone first? And after you paint a layer do you bake it in and then bake in every layer after that? Or do you wait until you're all done with painting and then bake it all in. Please get back to me about info as soon as you can thank you.
I only bake the last layer when I use Genesis Thinning Medium as a seal coat that gives a nice matte finish. I put the medium directly onto a cosmetic wedge and pounce it all over the vinyl. I let it set for an hour and then I bake it in my Nu-Wave oven at 250 deg. for 9 minutes. I repeat the process once the vinyl has cooled. Hope this helps! Sharon
I hope you make more because I'm gonna watch. I want to really do well on these babies. I'm very artistic. And I love making new things and this is another one of my things to learn.
Hey so previously i painted 12 inch dolls such as barbie , monster high ect and the red paint always stained no matter the brand . I was wondering if youve ever had that issue and how to avoid it
I always thought it was a "good" thing that the paint actually stained the vinyl! It means it's working! Don't put it where you don't want it, and if it's too dark, use more water and add pink to the mix.
I see all my comments. I use whatever color I intend to make the baby's flesh tone. If I want an olive toned baby I use a brick red color for mottling; if I want a peaches & cream I use black cherry - you can mix these 2 colors together, and you can mix some purple in there if you want a little purplish undertone. You can mix brown in there for an ethnic skin tone and add some purple into it. Be creative! Look at your own skin - I know my belly still has mottling on it! Thanks for the question and good luck. x0x0 Sharon
@@lifewithsharonb5138 another YTer said it worked, so I was curious if you had tried it. I am getting ready to start my first doll (which is a gift for my daughter's 7th bday), so I'm not going to try it, haha! I want this to go as smoothly as possible. :) Thanks for your videos!
Butterfly Baby Kisses Nursery okay honey. Thank you so much. I started my very first baby and I’m gonna send you pictures of my baby when I’m done. It’s turned out BEAUTIFULLY! Thank you so much for your videos and your amazing advice. Much love. ❤️
Sharon. You've been so helpful...I thi k I ruined my first doll...I used folk art satin finish. And it looks glossy. Idk if it'll dull as it drys or did I ruin it.
I always recommend folk art matte - sorry about your doll. If you have folk art outdoor matte sealer, try putting some of that on. I have a tutorial on how to do that. It may not work, but then again. it just might. Good luck!
I sometimes use the flesh color and add a reddish color to it for the creasing and blushing. You can use colors over again by adding something else to them. Just keep the paint thin enough.
Hi there, I’m from New Zealand and am considering this alternative. I’m new to this and brought a sugar kit which was already done, had him for 4 years and just sold him. I have the Sydney kit by Pat Moulton sitting in my draw and was thinking of trying to paint it. Can I use any acrylic paints from my local store? And also do I need the glass and tile medium liquid thing, will it still work with just distilled water? Thanks
I like folk art acrylics but you can use any higher end acrylics. I recommend the glass & tile medium mixed with distilled water. You can get it from Plaid Folk Art's website. Good luck!
Hi Sharon. Question. Im.on my third layer. After pouncing. Is it going to have an almost like texture? The sponge is giving it a blotchy finish. I paint the area then I ponce. The pouncing leaves marks on the paint so it's not smooth. Is that normal?
I use a Nu-Wave Convection oven with the extension ring. I use it outdoors because the fumes are toxic. If you use acrylics, they don't need to be baked though. You need to seal the vinyl at the end. I like Folk Art outdoor matte sealer or glass & tile medium. It's tricky to get it right though. Takes some practice. Hope this helps.
thanks for your generosity! i live in argentina and its veryyyy veryyy expensive buy from ebay this kind of paints! with your advice make the difference, make it real! thanks a lot from the heart!!!!
When Uve painted with Wal-Mart water based pants with the tile mix. Om after u get it the way u want Om how do u seal the paint so it will not fade an all.
You can use bright red & mix in flesh color with it. You can add yellow or orange to make it as "peach" as you like. Start with a lighter shade and go darker, because it's very hard to go from dark back to light! You can look on the internet for the "color wheel". Use the opposite color on the wheel to correct a color if it's too orange, too blue, etc. Hope this helps you. Sharon
Use Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium or Folk Art Outdoor Sealer to seal it once it's finished. A lot of people are having trouble finding these products. You can try Folk Art's Website or ebay. Sometimes you can find these products at Joann's fabrics. I often use Genesis Matte Varnish mixed with Genesis Thinning Medium over acrylics, and that requires baking. Apply using a cosmetic wedge. After product appears dry (about 1/2 hour) bake. Let cool and bake again. 10 minutes at 250 deg. I use a Nu-Wave oven.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 everyone seems to be sold out of the Glass and Tile medium :( I searched the internet found one who had it wanted 54 dollars including shipping !! Joann's and Michael's are out of it too . I found another product through my you tube video search . I try it on my test doll .
No - you don't want to finish the baby with a gloss finish - you want a matte finish and this product is the only one I recommend. Thanks for your question! Sharon
You don't need to heat if you use an air dry matte varnish to seal. I suggest Folk Art outdoor matte sealer. It's getting harder to find however. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Any other sealers besides glass and tile medium and genesis matte varnish that you recommend to use? Cause I'm trying to test some sealers find what works best for me
Hello thanks so much for helping us paint our babies. you've been a lot of help. I was wondering do I only use the glass and tile in the beginning when I first put my flesh paint on?
No, you mix it in with every batch of paint and seal it with just the medium at the end. That part is the trickiest and takes some practice. x0x0 Sharon

If you just use the glass and tile medium will the paint hold on nicely? Or is it easily prone to damage? :)

I currently have a beautiful reborn that I purchased but ll my friends said I was foolish because they said I could have made my own. We’ll see..... Thanks greatly appreciate all you knowledge. Take care...😚
A ton of baby kits, arms, legs, heads, no bodies, landed in my lap and I’m very looking forward to painting these dolls.
tfs do you vein and crease after the flesh tone? how many layers of flesh tone layers do you do? and do you blush after flesh tone? thank you
Yes, I do all those things after flesh tone. Sharon
Thanks!! I plan on becoming a reborn artist soon! (When I have enough money) I plan on getting the Bella Sculpt by Pat Moulton!! (Im 11 years old)
I wish I was young when I started. Now I'm getting old and my fingers have arthritis, but I'm never giving up, because even with this, every reborn I do gets even better! I wish you all the best. Stay in touch. Blessings, Sharon x0x0
w00w zers same here! I know I am late to this video but.... It still is helpful. Hope you can become and artist.
Butterfly Baby Kisses Nursery I’m 13 and I got a 10 inch nfk full body reborn unpainted. I’m gonna paint her!
Do you have an alternative to folk art glass and tile medium?
Folk Art Outdoor Sealer is just as good. Plus it's a bigger bottle.
This was extremely helpful!!! Thank you so much
thank you, your so nice with helping others and answering questions, without you we would be loss, because a lot of ppl don't reply .
You are a blessing to me. Thank you. I enjoy teaching almost as much as reborning! Sharon x0x0
Do you know of a good substitute for the glass and tile medium since they dont sell it anymore??
Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer. It's the same stuff actually.
Other than washing the vinyl do you do anything else to the vinyl before you paint the 1st flesh layer?
No. I don't
CN you use the acrylic paints on silicone soft baby dolls?
I have never worked with silicone.
Can I use the folk art glass and tile medium for the last step instead of Genesis thinning medium? Or matte varnish?
yes
Is this any kind of craft acrylic paint that you use and then mix with distilled water and the glass and tile medium to make it stick to the viny? Or is it a specific type of acrylic paint used for reborning?
It is not specific to reborning. I just happen to like Folk Art matte acrylics the best.
This is so very helpful, will come back to reference several times. Hoping to get supplies and start next month.
hi there I'm just about ready to start my reborn I have already put my mint wash on sorry I'm using special care nursery air dry paints....... the starter kit .with the premixed paints for creases nails lips ect ..? I also have matt varnish , textured skin tone motto
lingerie premixed and a free gift of milk spot for nose 👌 I've watched hundreds of videos on how to reborn but I've yet to see one that shows me in which order I add each layer of paint and should I put my textured skin tone medium with every layer of paint I add can you direct me on a part 1 to end of reborning your reborn many that x I have saved this video as reference if that's OK? thanx for your consideration for beginners like my self on a budget at £30 per vynal kit I want 2 make as few mistakes as possible...... is there even an ebook from kindle I could download as I watch😊 many thanx and gd luck in ur amazing venture Rosemarie x
I will I knew how do painted hair. What brushes do you use for it? And you got and videos painting hair?
I haven’t been able to find anything else online as an alternative to E6000, unfortunately! Thanks so much for your advice! :)
Thank you very much for this video! I’m new to the hobby and this is so so helpful.
Oh, that makes me happy! Thanks for the lovely comment, and welcome to the reborn hobby!
My name is Erin Scott and I love baby dolls
hi there just about ready to start my 1st reborn with air dry paints can u tell me what the washes ( blue mint ect are for why do you need there and do u put it on after or before the flesh color ? and do you use certain washes for the certain reborns this is all that confuses me thank you so much for your help
You only need to add a wash if the kit is too orangey. If it is neutral, just start by adding flesh color first.
wow!! thanks so much for this! i also use Acrylics but didnt know what to mix to keep the paint on
What are the best undertone colors to use under the eyes.
Black cherry red, blue, and a little purple. I end up using a final coat of red in the creases under the eye, sometimes a brick red, and sometimes a cherry red depending on the overall color of the baby.
I know this is an old video but since the folk art glass and tile medium has been discontinued what do you use in place of it?
I use Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer.
Do you need to add any sealer on the door after he painted to keep the paint on?
I always add matte varnish at the end.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 thank you so much!
do you still bake? if so how long for each layer in the Nuwave on what power
See my above reply. Thanks for your interest. Sharon x0x0
Some 20" kits fit nicely in newborn size and some need 0-3. It depends on the cloth body - the wider ones need 0-3.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 thank you!
I don't know about floating medium - I just recommend glass & tile medium from Folk Art. You can get it from Plaid Folk Art's website or on ebay.
Starting my very first babies soon as i get my nuwave i got the Issac kit super excited
I am new at this with air paint does it involve any banking and if not how long do I let it set to ry before I start new layer of paint
it requires no baking. Just wait until it's dry to the touch before doing another layer.
is apple barrel paint good too?
I like the more pigmented acrylics myself like Folk Art and Americana.
Thanks for the tips and showing how you paint the reborns. I need advice iv painted the head of a kit and its way to light how can I nringbto a lifelike color? Thank you
Add more paint to your mixture.
Will this work? I only have regular acrylic paint, but I do have the medium and distilled water. If I get my reborn wet will the paint come off? She is a full body unpainted vinyl.
If you seal it correctly, the paint will stay.
What order do you paint your babies? Is it skin tone, vaining, molting, undertones, creases?
Skin tone, blushing & creases, veins, more skin tones, mottling, undertones, and more skin tones, followed by matte varnish. It takes many layers of all of these steps to achieve the desired color.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 omg thank you so much ❤️
I'm a beginner and have a practice baby I'm going to work on but can i ask do i need the glass and tile medium to mix into the acrylic paint and distilled water or can i just mix distilled water and acrylics and spray with matt varnish when done or does this affect the way the reborn looks at the end
I can only recommend what I have used.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 okay i understand, could i get your opinion on this. so do u think judt the distilled water and paint with a spray of mat varinsh at the end would work?
@@thetwilighthollownursery731 No, I would not recommend that.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 okay.
What do u put on when u are done with the painting, like the last step? And also what can u use to remove the shine?
Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer. I mix a little of it in with each batch of color & water, and I use it alone at the end to give it a bit of texture and reduce shine. You can purchase this product on ebay or on Folk Art's website.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 Does it help the paint stick to the vinyl? I’ve seen people say that it sticks ok with only paint and water. 🤔
@@IndigoTiger_828Yes, the medium helps the paint stick. Plus it gives it a bit of texture so that it doesn't feel like plastic.
Do you use any sealer for the last layer with the acrylic paints?
Yes, I use Genesis thinning medium and bake at 250 deg. for 9 minutes.
Sharon
What can I use in place of the glass and tile? I cannot find this anywhere and I want to use this method to paint a reborn
Folk Art Outdoor Sealer works just as well.
I’m getting a kit in a month. This tutorial help sm ty
thanks for your help , I will follow your tips , your job is very beautiful , a big hug
I hope you make more because I'm gonna watch. I want to really do well on these babies. I'm very artistic. And I love making new things and this is another one of my things to learn.
After watching this video I convinced my grandma to help me paint a reborn kit!!!!!! I’m so happy!!
I'm so glad!
This has inspired me to reborn an old kit thank you so much!
where to purchase your paints and the varnish etc
I got the paint at Michael's. You can get Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer from ebay or their website.
hi im starting to paint reborns i was wondering what was the magic ingredient? not the water the other thing
Folk art outdoor matte sealer
Hi! I am not sure if you will see this, but what specific shades do you use for mottling?
I see all my comments. I use whatever color I intend to make the baby's flesh tone. If I want an olive toned baby I use a brick red color for mottling; if I want a peaches & cream I use black cherry - you can mix these 2 colors together, and you can mix some purple in there if you want a little purplish undertone. You can mix brown in there for an ethnic skin tone and add some purple into it. Be creative! Look at your own skin - I know my belly still has mottling on it! Thanks for the question and good luck. x0x0 Sharon
Have you tried just water & acrylic paint (no glass/tile medium), then sealing at the end?? (or no medium & no sealing?)
No I haven't but go ahead and try it and let me know if the paint sticks
@@lifewithsharonb5138 another YTer said it worked, so I was curious if you had tried it. I am getting ready to start my first doll (which is a gift for my daughter's 7th bday), so I'm not going to try it, haha! I want this to go as smoothly as possible. :) Thanks for your videos!
can I use like mod poge and acrylic paint with some regular water to paint them and just let it air dry
Do you still have to bake the babies when your using the “glass and tile medium” and folk paint?
No you don't. I finish the doll with a matte coat using Plaid Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium. Sharon
Good luck!
Do you pour out the paint after doing skin tone and add more stuff to prepare the veins or are you mixing it all together?
I sometimes use the flesh color and add a reddish color to it for the creasing and blushing. You can use colors over again by adding something else to them. Just keep the paint thin enough.
@@lifewithsharonb5138 Okay thank you!!
im going to try to make a baby grinch reborn doll soon with my mom andvwe are so excited! this is really helpful!
Good luck!
Can I used the liquitex professional Matt varnish as the substitute to the genesis varnish ?
Hi Sharon. Question. Im.on my third layer. After pouncing. Is it going to have an almost like texture? The sponge is giving it a blotchy finish. I paint the area then I ponce. The pouncing leaves marks on the paint so it's not smooth. Is that normal?
You might be using too much paint or too much medium - are you putting the medium in with the paint and water?
Where can I get the glass and tile medium... Or is there another name that works the same
Sorry, I am just now seeing this comment. You can use Folk Art Outdoor Sealer. You can get it on ebay.
Do have to have a special oven to heat? Or is a conventional over ok?
I use a Nu-Wave Convection oven with the extension ring. I use it outdoors because the fumes are toxic. If you use acrylics, they don't need to be baked though. You need to seal the vinyl at the end. I like Folk Art outdoor matte sealer or glass & tile medium. It's tricky to get it right though. Takes some practice. Hope this helps.
Have wanted to try this for a while now. You have inspired me, going to order some things right now!
Oh, I'm so happy to hear that!
thanks for your generosity! i live in argentina and its veryyyy veryyy expensive buy from ebay this kind of paints! with your advice make the difference, make it real! thanks a lot from the heart!!!!
When Uve painted with Wal-Mart water based pants with the tile mix. Om after u get it the way u want Om how do u seal the paint so it will not fade an all.
What colors do I use to give my doll a peach color complexion
You can use bright red & mix in flesh color with it. You can add yellow or orange to make it as "peach" as you like. Start with a lighter shade and go darker, because it's very hard to go from dark back to light! You can look on the internet for the "color wheel". Use the opposite color on the wheel to correct a color if it's too orange, too blue, etc. Hope this helps you. Sharon
I am just getting into it bought a second hand doll as a test project . Do you seal the doll once it is finished ? If so with what product thank you
Use Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium or Folk Art Outdoor Sealer to seal it once it's finished.
@@Bringholz Good luck and let me know how it works.
Hi there, I can't find the glass and tile medium in my city, is modge pod an acceptable substitute or do you know of other products I could use?
No, mod podge is not the product to use with acrylics. You can purchase glass & tile medium from the manufacturer which is Plaid Folk Art or on ebay.
Hi, can you use water base clear acrylic finish gloss instead of the glass tile medium.😀
No - you don't want to finish the baby with a gloss finish - you want a matte finish and this product is the only one I recommend. Thanks for your question! Sharon
Thankyou!😀
I love your video..I have a lot of questions about sealing and heat and whatnot.
I'm doing a monkey first..my first attempt to reborn something
You don't need to heat if you use an air dry matte varnish to seal. I suggest Folk Art outdoor matte sealer. It's getting harder to find however. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I wish I had the talent to do these. I’m an rn at a nursing home and I have seen how much one of these dolls help the residents.
Thank you. I really want to try this and your video is so helpful.
Any other sealers besides glass and tile medium and genesis matte varnish that you recommend to use? Cause I'm trying to test some sealers find what works best for me
Plaid Folk Art Outdoor Sealer - it's water based. Other than that, no, I don't know of any.
Can you show a close up of a hand you did creasing on?
I'll try and find one, but I need your email address.
Hello thanks so much for helping us paint our babies. you've been a lot of help. I was wondering do I only use the glass and tile in the beginning when I first put my flesh paint on?
No, you mix it in with every batch of paint and seal it with just the medium at the end. That part is the trickiest and takes some practice. x0x0 Sharon
Can i use matte varnish? Cause I can't find glass title medium.
no, not if it's air dry from Wal-Mart. You have to go to ebay or directly to Plaid Folk Art website to get the glass & tile medium.
one question is there any way like mistake a person can make that the pain will peel or start lifting then peel?
If you don't apply thin layers and you don't seal it with either Genesis thinning medium and bake, or just use Folk Art Glass & Tile Medium.
ok tysm! ty for the fast response
Where do,you buy those paints? Like the tile and glass paint?
Paints at Michael's. Glass & Tile medium at JoAnn's fabrics or ebay or directly from plaid folk art's website.
Is there anything we can use in place of the glass medium they don't have it here
No. You can get it online from Plaid Folk Art or Ebay. That is the only thing I recommend.
