Actualy Helheim (or just Hel) was a cold and dark place in norse mythology. And there was no fire or brimstone there at all. This was the afterlife for those who died from sickness or old age (not died in battle)
Remeber that we lived in a cold and dark part of the earth, so for our anchestors the cold represents death, while fire and heat represent life.
While in cultures in warmer countries with a lot hotter climate the burning sun can be death, and a shade be the good thing keeping you alive.
To be fair, I don't think we can tell these people "remember". They barely knew what Norway was :) But yes, the Abrahamitic version of hell is not the same as Hel.

More familiar with German mythology (so pretty much Norse in an earlier version as we got christianized earlier) and a common thing in it is to believe that the dead are living inside of mountains, so maybe that is the origin of this conception of hell being filled with fire and brimstone which was emphasized by the christian church to foster conversion by making the world of the dead in the indigenous religion seem undesirable compared to the heaven itself promises, after all the name of the realm of punishment was directly taken from the realm of the afterlife of the old religion
@Stirgid Lanathiel Well. as far as I have understood our old mthology the concept of "kind souls are awareded, and evil souls are punnished in the afterlife" does not seem to exists in the same way.
The norse were strong belivers in fate and destiny, so I guess you just fullfilled that...
Whre you ended up after life seems more like how you died and where you belong, that some kind of punishment.
Helheim isn't even necessarily a place of torment. It can be, but some of the dead that didn't die in battle are honored and sat in Hel's dining hall. Really depends on the soul. IE Baldr had a place of honor there. She wouldn't let him go, of course... But she honored him.
The girl singing in this is Aurora.
She is not just a great artist on her own, she is one of my most favorite humans on this planet. She brings a unique energy to her live performances.
Some parts of her history is sad. She has lost 3 friends already at her young age, but inspires many on how to move forward in life with her songs.
One in particular she lost in the 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway. For which she wrote the song "Little Boy in the Grass". But she has so many different sounds and each album she made has a different vibe.
If you ever get to it, I would suggest showing them her live performances from the Nidarosdomen concert. Perhaps the song "Lucky" because they should understand the meaning. It's about being lucky to be alive. And accepting faith. (She is Omnist. Which is where a person believes in all faiths to one ultimate spiritual goal.)

@@zachall101 As it should be. She isn't the star of this song. It's their band. It's also why she's not as animated in this as she is in her own live performances. It's a rather simple part.
I've been lucky enough to see her live! She is amazing! Her voice is so beautiful and she's so funny too. She sang her song "through the eyes of a child" and it was so beautiful and emotional. The whole room just went silent and i was literally in tears.
I am SO very pleased that not only you explained in great detail who they are and what they are doing and why they are doing it, but that you got it all RIGHT. It is most appreciated. You have honored Wardruna by sharing them without bias and in the beautiful spirit with which they were created.
I think copyright is getting out of hand. It should be meant to prevent one from publishing the same song and saying he has made it, but this is a harmless reaction video and the song would be interrupted all the times. I’m sorry for this guys, happy to see you all back!

Copyright was changed or hijacked by large companies like Disney so they could continue profiting of old works long after the creator was dead, and grab any rights away from anyone else. It's a crime against humanity, art should be accessible to everybody just like science, it's not meant to be behind close doors.

Unless someone is blatantly ripping off the music/video than it's nothing but publicity. If someone watches this and then gets into the band that's more money for them.

I love the one who criticized the mic shadows on the singer's face. He is like a natural stage manager, with such attention to detail and care for the performance. He pays attention to all details. He would be an asset to any show!
This is not the point of the performance. These passionate musicians are professionals in every sense of the word. They don't need stage managers but listeners who can feel the music and the story. From all the rest he didn't stop interrupting and picking on everything but the music and the message Wardruna is sharing...The old man with the turban was the wisest of all. He did not speak during the performance. He was fully emerged in the experience and then he shared the most important points of what he believes.

@@CausticSpace Indo-Aryan theory is a myth. The only valid fact is " Proto-indo-european migration". Norse (Viking) culture is same as the Indian culture. Same goes for Roman and Greece. Same traditions with different manifestations.

North east india is an exception based on migration from east. Other than that DNA of North India and South India are same. Indians are original Aryans. India was known as "Aryavarta". Meaning "land of Aryans". The word "Arya" originated from India. There took place a huge war in the past. In that battle, defeated tribes were driven out of India. They settled on Europe and civilsed them. Descendants of one of the tribes are Hellenic people (ancestors of Greek). That's why almost all Eurasian religions are similar.

Really both enjoyed and was frustrated by this one. I had been so looking forward to it after seeing the Heilung video. Disappointed that there was such issue with the copyrights as all the silenced parts affected the overall presentation. Very much enjoyed the thoughtful responses of the viewers, and especially adore Muharam~ the way he always lets himself go with each experience is such a joy to behold.

Trybals watching these people sing about their culture without judgment is so wonderful. We must all honor each others culture and religious beliefs. We all may worship different gods and live a different way but we do not walk in each others shoes. We did not come from the same place as the rest of the world. I know my god loves diversity and to disrespect other cultures would be to disrespect what my god is teaching me. I loved this video and love to see into the hearts of the Trybals because they give me hope.

I will do all I can to honor another persons beliefs and culture, I will do what I can to learn about others but if mine are "attacked" or my country, I will stand and defend it. There are always people who will act out of hate and I hope that I will never be among them but I will always defend my faith and my country.
All cultures should be understood, that's the first thing a reasonable human would aim for. Everything else you stated is sugar coated nonsense, you don't grasp a fraction of it, and yet you claim to know. Let me tell you though, some should be kept out from healthy environments... From the day I discovered your content I noticed their open mind on stuff they usually aren't familiar with and more so appreciating a lot of it and you can also notice many similarities between cultures while still being different

I really respect how much effort you put into researching for this project. I truly appreciate that you went through the trouble to teaching these people about Norse culture, and even went as far as telling them about the Norse Gods, and the meaning and goal of Wardruna, and Einar Selvik. I liked how expressive the gentlemen on the top left was. I would really l love to see him specifically react to some of Wardruna's other songs, specifically Lyfjaberg and Solringen.
I'm finding so many amazing songs through your channel, and it's also amazing to see not only your interpretation but also the interpretations of the people reacting to the music, through a completely different cultural lens from what most of the viewers here see through.
The forked antler at the top of the microphone is often called a "stang." It's a tool that some use in religious rituals.
The verses about cattle and kinsmen and reputation are from the Havamal, a text believed to be passed down from Odin himself. To be fair, I don't exactly believe that, but it's a small book of wisdom that's useful sometimes. Love your channel and all the reactors! Wishing you all well

@@aumatomos7811 If you want to understand the fundamentals of the Norse faith I would start with the Völuspá, the prophecy of the seeress. It tells the story of the creation of the world and its end, and will give you a good understanding of how the ancient Norsemen viewed the universe and their places in it.
@@waraidako It's one thing to read the texts, but an entirely different thing to understand what that (could have) meant for the mindset of those people. Just reading about the Norns does not instantly make you realize how it (could have) shaped the mindset of the people. For example.
For a more holistic read on the topics you could try "Our Troth". Though the books seem to be pretty fucking unavailable right now.
I think the biggest takeaway for anyone whose main contact with religion was abrahamics should be: Germanic/Northern Paganism is not about being subservient to the gods you worship. Reading the texts is good and important. But they aren't really an instruction manual or codex, as the abrahamic books are often viewed.
Though I recently also switched to thinking understanding the historic culture could be more important than understanding the historic religion. I think a native religion is born out of and shaped by the culture more than the other way around. Keyword here being "native".
@@aumatomos7811 You have got some good answer who i find no faults in. But i would really like to stress something that everyone seems to leave out when it comes to Germanic/Northern paganism and that is it's connection to nature. Just like alot of other pagan practises the root is always in nature. Finding this faith in an arid or tropical climate seems extremly hard in my eyes. For most people here who trys to practise this belife i have never heard anyone say they where looking for it, only that it or they found while in nature here in this part of the world (this is excluding the warrior part, which may be the pop-culture focus but a long shot from everything).
Even some practises which are seen as essential are really hard to do if you are not in a northen landscape. Some trees old such a big part of worship yew, ash and the biggest one is oak. Without oak you cant have blót today as we dont have any real temples anymore. Temples that would need to be build with at least some oak btw.
The spiritual core will be found with knowlege and precense i would say. Seek out the old.

It's unfortunate that the video got a copyright strike, but even despite the fact that you had to remove the audio, this is still an incredible video, like always. This channel always helps me discover new things and see things from new points of view and pay attention to different details, and that's why it's one of my favourites ever. You're doing very important work by allowing people to share cultures like this.
If you want to have them react to more modern cultural music, then I recommend Blessing of Nature by Uutai Olena.
I also recommend Endurant by Bloodywood, which is an indian folk metal band that does songs that mix english and hindi lyrics.

As a norse pagan I am so glad they did this video. I love this song and it's one I play when I am going to visit my family who has passed especially my father. I'm so glad to see cultural differences discussed in a respectful and amazing manner. Blessings to you friends.
I was really impress that he actually did remember jinjer :D warduna is always been one of my fav as is heilung. I will finally get to see them this summer in Finland been waiting and wanting to see them for years and years. I do follow the neo pagan way in my life and even it can be practiced in a religious way and some choose to do so it's never was a religion in its original form. There was some small cults in the middle ages with the old Norse society's. But before the enforcement of Christianity old Norse society's did now have any form of organised religion. This religious form of it these days is neo paganistic and because the lag of legit information people mix Christian idealism in to a lot without even realising it themselves. Why this happens a lot is mostly because almost all information of those times and our ancestors culture was never written down by the old Norse themselves it was done by others the traditions and stories where pass on orally only. The sagas are generally the best information what we have and even them are written mostly by scholars outside of norse society so they have also taken a lot of liberties and the sagas are translated originally by a Icelandic Christian man called snorri Sturluson. He did use the original text and parchments but of course he couldn't and wouldn't exactly be fully honest In he's translation and took a lot of liberties because he was working for the Christian church. Odin did sacrifice he's eye and hang for 7 days on the tree of Yggdrasil to gain the knowledge of the runes. He was a god of war and wisdom and poetry. It's been said that he only spoke with poetry. But he's popularity is more related to neo paganism than the original times. There really isn't much mention of Odin in the original texts compared to for example to Thor that was said to be most honoured god among the people because he was kind of common man's god like farmers and etc. But there is no evidence that the gods In those days where implemented much at all in every day life. Like loads of neo paganistic practitioners do these days.
And also the popularity of it rising in modern day is fastly do with the Hollywood and especially after a new TV series called the Vikings come out that was based on the story's of the sagas but once again the TV series makers did take a loads of liberties changing the original stories completely in lots of cases. So unfortunately it's quite a lot of more of fashion thing to people in a sense than actual practice of the old ways. But everyone has to start somewhere I guess and if your seeking of the old ways is done with pure heart and not for fashion sense and ego then personally I don't mind how one practise it.

@@celticdeamon567 All religions tackle the same questions and concepts but with different interpretations, there are many wisdoms to be found in every one of them.
The old Scandinavians Gods will always be special to me, but I can't find just as much in the tales of Moses and Yeshua as from Oden, Freja or Brage.
Pagan AND Buddhist? You can't be polytheistic traditional, and Abrahamic monotheist at the same time!

Wow this is awesome reaction. This is why i support on patreon. Totally awesome that my heritage as a scandinavian or even germanic descent have alot of incommon with people from afar places. They might not understand the essence or rittual but they understand purpose and traditions. Something we in the west slowly forgetting. Traditions and culture is CENTRAL for a sound wellbeing.

Even though this is a Norwegian band - this kind of music played here has its roots in the old Nordic culture, which Norway, Sweden and Denmark all had as a common, shared culture, often referred to as old 'Norse-religion/culture'. The religion and culture we in the Nordic countries held before we got, more or less forcibly 'converted' to Christianity (Iceland has it too - which was colonized [although-no one lived there] by those from the Nordic countries who refused to abandon their old ways of the old 'Norse-tradition' and convert to Christianity).
This was the culture, customs and religion, held by the old Vikings - if you've heard of them? From around a 1000 years ago.

There are many of us who still practice this today. We are the sons and daughters of this ancient religion. It is making its way back into the world.

Yeah sorry about that my friend, last time I uploaded their music they blocked the video and then had it deleted yesterday. They did the same with our Heilung reaction video after it reached 420,000 views. It's all owned by Orchard music (Norwegian audio label) and they always block our videos. So I had to come up with a different approach this time. You know a saying that goes "Something is better than nothing"

It's all owned by Orchard music label and they blocked our Heilung reaction video entirely too. Sadly they did it months after it was posted and had more than 420,000 views. Anyways, I can do the same adjustments to it and re-upload if people are interested. Aurora - Runway is almost finished editing so it will be up in a few days. I'm not sure if that is also owned by Orchard music label or some other record label company. Hope it goes smooth

I'm of that Norse religion. Danish. We don't kneel and pray to our gods for wealth and other trivial things. We call upon them to watch us earn their respect. We don't kneel to our gods. And they can exist separate of the creating God, too, because if that one God created all, that God created the gods, too. Aspects of us to focus on. What trait we choose to focus on should be more important. Love? Hate? Curiosity? Mischief? Stength? Honor? Pride? Hubris? All is under the creator if there is ONE creator. If there is, we all seek the creator but in different ways by focusing as limited as humanity can in its limited form. Hel vegen is but a song to sing the dead to the next world, reminding us that our name and honor is borrowed from our children. Name and honor doesn't die if worthy of remembrance.
