As one of the few people to actually beat this game, some of the later "Pimps" become an actual challenge when you need to plan your route around going to the right shops. If you don't you can run out of time and for the later cars, unless you max out every part, the rival will beat you. Also if you do play this game again some small things: 6:37 That guy is how you access the secret shop during the pimp session. To activate him in the free roam, you have to go slowly (like you do for the Cruise Now bits), and honk the horn. Sometimes you have to do it in a specific direction. 6:53 The countdown isn't a countdown for you to get to the house, it's a countdown before the free roam ends and you can't earn more money. Ideally you want to earn more money than what the game recommends. So if it says "5000" you want to go for like "6000". Because of this I get all the tokens first then do the Cruises, then the two minigames to max out the cash. The later cars, you need to have more money because the rival will beat you if you don't have enough expensive parts. The Blue tokens on the map, you have to get those. They open up a secret shop during the build session, that's marked by a red star. They give a max level part that you can't get from the other stores. Ideally you want to go to the secret supplier first, so you can get whatever special part is, so you don't waste money on the same kind of part from another store. These are required to get a perfect rating and in some of the later builds to beat the rival. 10:20 The Xzibit bar is related to the Xzibit challenge you see at 9:40. Basically see how the rival has a green box with a pink star? That is an Xzibit part. These are free parts that help boost your rating and most importantly add time to the clock. They appear when you reach a certain threshold with the build you are doing. There are 3 tiers to the parts and each one gives you more time. Again these are required to get perfects and heck even beats some of the later builds. The last set of builds have a massive stretch of road that separates some of the shops and you lose alot of time going from one side to the other. You need the Xzibit challenges to just get enough time. Finally most people who play this game only do Andrea or Marcia's cars. So they don't ever meet any of the characters later on and their cars with mad parts. The best one, is the last guy who, I kid you not, is a larper and is dressed as such. It is the best the cutscene in the game. Also all the cutscenes feature bad lip syncing and dead eyed character models who flail about. Obviously they were trying to capture the show but it didn't turn out well. Also the PSP version, actually cuts 3 of the builds plus the industrial area out and gives you 3 new ones to do, on an island that appears to be in a snowstorm. (Yep I beat this game on both PS2 and PSP, I was that big of a fan of the show). Additionally there was another Pimp My Ride game called "Pimp My Ride: Street Racing". It is a very basic racing game that felt like it was made in 2004 but released in 2009. It has nothing to do with the show, no X-Z-Xzibit nor any of the build shops. It's also incredibly tedious with rubber banding AI, that makes you race the same 12 races like 40 times. I beat that game aswell (probably the only guy to do it) and there is like no purpose to doing so. It is a terrible game and has no real value.
@@pallav8725 I actually have a funny story about this game. So it came out in 2006 and I didn't know it was out since I was like 10 at the time, but I did watch the tv show and really liked it. So one day I went to my local video store and I saw NFS Carbon was for sale (I was also really into NFS) but I didn't have enough money. So I saved up the money and a month or two later, I had enough to get the game, I ran in (it was almost closing) and I saw Carbon but also Pimp my Ride the game. I was so shocked because I didn't know about the game. So because of that, I impulse bought Pimp my Ride instead of Carbon as I intended. Anyway at the time, I didn't think it was that bad (I had already had the disappointment experience with Simpsons Skateboarding and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly) but it was kinda just another game, so like a month later I got NFS Carbon. So I'm probably the only dingus to have ever chosen Pimp my Ride the game over Need for Speed Carbon. Also something I forgot to mention about Pimp My Ride in general. The traffic car modles. The Xbox 360 version is the only version to have variety. On every other platform the traffic models are Dodge Challenger Concepts only.
The more I look back on Eutechnyx, the more I wonder how the hell they haven't been bought out by a far more competent studio and quickly snuffed out of sheer pity.
I looked up Eutechnyx’s page on Wikipedia, and the answer to that is “Well no, but actually yes”. The company got downsized in 2015 and much of their staff got relocated to sister company ZeroLight, which is now in a completely different industry making products for other businesses.
Eutechnyx's car modeling tech was used to start up a sister company called ZeroLight. ZeroLight does a lot of work making online car configurators for car manufacturers, and I wouldn't really be surprised if Eutechnyx is basically the modeling manpower for that now.

i had this game on psp and it was super stable on that platform, although i remember reaching a complete brick wall part way through because the rival car would always impossibly zoom around to all the shops and make a better car than i ever could. absolutely peak tv tie-in game but dumb fun nonetheless
That is the scariest illustration of a floor jack I've ever seen, it's so weirdly proportioned and the perspective is all whacky, this game hurts me. 😭
This game is a subversive masterpiece. Almost avante garde in its design. It takes everything you think you know about driving games and morphs them into something you couldn't imagine. It was ahead of its time by throwing in the waggle controls before people were sick of them, genuinely impressive. The devs knew that this piece of art wouldn't be loved by everybody so they made an executive decision to have it hard crash to remind you to step outside more, maybe even take the time to pimp your own rides. This is truly something special
I do love the idea of the show being so held together by gum and duct tape that the show runners had to go out and secure funding for every car they had to pimp.
The first thing i noticed when i picked a copy for this game in my Ps 2 is the photo used for customizing the cars on the back of the cover are from Need for Speed Most Wanted, which was hilarious and also quite weird that EA didn't sue MTV or the game devs for this
This game reminds me of the ps2 lowrider game a couple of college kids made and it somehow got massive marketing for being so far from a car game in terms of gameplay I'm surprised you didn't just play the ps2 version, it's practically identical with far less crashing, and trusty PS2 memory card saving

Bringing these games into the public light for the first time in years/decades would be interesting as it could spawn a whole new fan base for these games
most of those games aren’t playable on PC without setting up emulators for older consoles and/or aren’t available to purchase on any modern storefront. entire subgenres of the racing game genre have just simply died off, and most attempts to resurrect them by indie devs have failed(see: Dangerous Driving) the SOLE exception I’ve seen within the last 5 years was Victory Heat Rally, which, while having had two playable demos, doesn’t even have a release date yet. mind you, it was supposed to release last year.
I remember first encountering Eutechnyx for their Max Power Racing game and Le Mans 24 Hours. At that point I thought they had the makings of a good studio. Oh, how their other titles killed any such thoughts after.
