Definitely appreciate the kind words! Can thank you enough for stopping by the channel, checking out the video and commenting. I say that a lot but I mean it. With so much content on the net and this specific app, it means something when folks click on your video, ingest it and interact with you!
Great comparison! Wow. I love the way it sort of doesn't present the order of the mics in the expected way. Bravo! To me, it's clear the WA-8000 has the real tube mojo. The emulation WAS excellent, especially after processing. But still, the WA-8000 had the depth and definition over the emulation. Thanks for the great vids!
Much appreciation for checking it out and the kind words! I feel like with the right front end combo, suited for the source and source material, this mic can offer solid results. Thanks for stopping by!
thanks , ive been anticipating that comparison .. I prefer the wa8000g , there seems to be more low mids ( not sure whether its due to proximity) and the highs were slighty smoother.
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. I’m actually a little more than 6in away from the mics. The camera angle may not be as accurate but I typically stay about 10in away so proximity doesn’t impose on the tests. Again thanks for watching and sharing
Dope! I was looking for this comparison. I've been mic shopping for a couple of weeks and your channel has been a big help. I was choosing between the Slate, WA8000 and WA251. I kept coming back to your channel to see if you would do this exact video. I knew it was coming lol. I already ordered the 8000 so I'll test it out and see if I will keep it or return it for the Slate. I like the sound of the WA mics a little more but the Slate is close enough and is more versatile.
Glad you check out the channel and use the content as a guide! I definitely think these are solid tools. I personally feel like there’s a bit more dimension in the wa8000. That’s MY opinion, and many will say otherwise. But the VMS offers multiple tones and that could be helpful in various situations.
@@CarlMooreMusic I totally agree with you. Slate is flatter in other tests I’ve heard and seems more sibilant but hey if it’s good enough for Demi Lovato should be good enough for me. I’ll test this 8000 through my isa one and see how that goes. I’ll do a video.
I have both of these mics as well .The Slate def has its place and has been working well for me for the last couple of years , but I love this Wa8K , I found that it is a little thin in the bottom end. Nothing a small bump around 200 in mixing wouldn’t bring right out tho. I’m sure they designed it that way . I prefer it on my voice over my Slate and def over my tlm103 & my Sony c-100 . they were both so harsh on my voice . The Sony wasnt harsh but super silibant. The Wa8K is def my new go to for sure . it’ll require allot less during mixing. Keep doing these joints bro 🔥🔥🔥
Much appreciation for checking out the video and commenting! I had ran a few tests before this video, and i feel like getting a little closer for proximity gave me the low end that I needed but it was boomy/boxy. It was tight and pretty clean. I’ve heard frequently that the 103 is sibilant, and I haven’t expended that but I don’t doubt it. Never tried the c-100 but I’ve heard mixed reviews about it. Again, totally appreciate the love, checking out the video and commenting!
I really liked the wa800+73jr+2a the best, so smooth with lots of high end information. But fg800m is not bad either. Normal fg800 is straight up problemetic.
Much appreciation for checking out the video and commenting! I often use that combo on vocals and it typically works out well for me. I know others will speak to their own experiences and trash all the gear in this review or praise it, but I’ve gotten solid results. I could work with any option to get to my intended goal .
@@CarlMooreMusic I would appreciate it if you would tell us more of your opinion on different mics. For example, what are your personal favourites and why ? How does mic x stack up against mic y for you ? Hope your channel blows up soon, your content is top notch.
bro thank u for your videos. you help us soooo much man! Big love. I have an important question which no one could answer me. Did u tried the Shure SM7b with the slate emulation? The mic itself is very dark and not so open like condenser microphones. Would be so nice to know if your SM7b sound more open with the slate c800 emulation. Please answer me that...no one could tell me this :/
Yo!!! Much appreciation for checking out the channel and the kind words!!!! To answer your question, I have not tried that. BUT I’m shooting content today pretty much ALL day and I can definitely run a test and send it to you! Toss me your email address and I’ll get it back today.
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. The wa8000 has made a place in my locker. I think paired with the right source and front end chain, it can get busy!
Certainly the warm audio has a more accurate emulation of the Sony C800 Slate is more dependent on the plugins which causes more sibilance in the highs and it sometimes sound like a cup at times, warmaudio wins the emulation I currently own Slate VMS and have been struggling yo find the sweet spot
I am hearing that digital I would call crackle that you get from plugins I only use the best plugins UAD Softube etc but still hear it. The Warm Audio doesn't have that at all great comparison young man keep it up!
Thanks for checking out the video when commenting. I write arrange and perform all my vocals. It’s much easier that way for me personally. I’m a pianist/multi-instrumentalist so that helps with harmonic structures.
I like the wa8k because the low end is tamed back a bit more. In my experience of use, it doesn’t get boomy down there. Some complain that it’s not enough low mids but I think it’s cool. And if I need more, I add it with EQ on the front end. The wa251 top end is prevalent but not as much as the wa8k. More modern stuff, I think the wa8k is solid. Or if the source captured is super dark then. For intimate stuff, I’d use the w251. But honestly either mic can get the job done!
Thanks for checking out the video commenting. They’re less like earbuds and more like IEMs. But enjoy them for whah they offer. I play in a live setting 52 weeks a year so they work solid for me.
These are actually the Linsoul KZ ZAX 1DD+7BAs. They’re a little less harsh but for a back up pair of IEMs and to keep from using larger headphones in these UA-cam videos, they’re pretty solid. I compensate on the EQ side of things before it hits these.
BIG DIFFERENCE ! you sing like a god my guy. WA8000 all the way, sounds more authentic / real / lively. Slate sounds harsh and less lively. great video dude. i cant stress this enough,,,,,,,,,,,, BIG DIFFERENCE
Much appreciation for the kind words, checking out the channel and commenting! The WA8000 gets a fair amount of flack. But I let my source captured, source material and desired end goal be the judge. No one will ever know my work or client work was recorded in a wa8000 or any other mic at that. I’m not a proponent of poor quality gear but for all my uses with it thus far, the wa8000 worked out.
Yo! Thanks for the kind words and checking out the channel! I’ll definitely put that video together. Maybe a 1073 style shootout with all the 1073 tones I have!
I honestly agree. It’s definitely utilitarian in nature and affords efficiency. Don’t have to setup multiple mics when tonal searching. It’s solid for the price and variety. I enjoy it
I’m working on getting it up on digital platforms. I couldn’t decide which mic to record the final vocals though lol! Once I do, It’s getting finalized and posted

@j-rockmusic man you got all the mics i want lol ... would you be able to show some test on all of them? im not sure which one i should actually buy
swapping the stock wa-8000 tube for the sony c-800g tube automatically gives you a much thicker low-end, and it also tames the harsh highs as well.
